I really hope Dani Sanchez can be our saving grace. If this losing streak continues I'd be tempted to bring in Cameron Lindsay (finally)

League table thread has either a pessimistic or optimistic view.......other years had more promise I think...and given this was our 1 home game in the middle of two lots of two aways I think we deserved better.

Did you see the CCM team that destroyed an opposition tonight, no - you saw the CCM that double up tacked our players and took their chance on the break,  and played one ball through our defence not 3 that caught us out. You could see Stein, Brocky and fenton trying to link up. Also Ifill running and getting some lost ball.  BE SUPPORTERS not only when we win guys.

You can't say that. We're all supporters. But our team should be playing better. We've paid our $$ and have our right to complain

It is not just a question of being supporters when we win. We know all our players tried, but the question is, are they playing in their best position and can the coach change things when needed?

So we should be pleased we were not destroyed? Is that what we aspire to now?

I can accept losing when there's been entertainment on offer and a bit of fight on show, but todays loss was poor. CCM didnt do a whole lot but they are the away team, and they won.

Team choice for MOM Louis Fenton.      6 games in with new Stein, Louis, Brookie and Smith, Manny, Leo playing different places. Be constructive not destructive. If Lyndsay showed what Fenton does in training do you think he would be not even be on bench?

Stop making excuses, 3 new players in and a couple of player playing different positions. One of them was always a mid field player. Smith is not a new player.

I like our players but they don't seem to be very smart.  I thought having a bigger squad would make players fight for positions, but it appears that isn't the case.    I think we need to mix things up a bit, if Lindsay is fit, give him a go.  hell even chuck Downey in there.

Interesting how both Wellington teams lost by the same margin.

No Excuse just reason! And I did not list Smith as new, but positional play alters how other react or have to cover and we so great saw when Ben was "away".  Anyway boys on 6 am flight to get to China, none looked happy after day at office. Jets and Perth away hard road to plough before you all come back to play 12th man and help the effort. Sorry to many Stein Hekens!

Shit, first news that one of the Nix's staunchest fans left the ground before full time, now calls being made to "chuck Downey in there".

It's despondency and desperation from all quarters.

I don't think we played badly. To be honest I thought it was not a bad game of football with very few chances. We never gave Matt Ryan anything to really think about and the problems at our end, we caused ourselves (the cross field bomb from Zwaanswijk, Paston messing around in front of goal etc) I don't think McBreen would have scored had Sigmund done his job.

Im going to have to stop you right there. Watch a replay of the goal, watch how heavy McBreens last touch was before he shot, and watch how slow Paston was to come off his line. The second McBreen let off that heavy touch, Paston shouldve been straight out of the gate to smother the ball. The fact that he waited and waited before stuttering out, and almost getting to the ball anyway, proves the point that he wouldve got their first if it werent for his indecision. Pastons slow reflexes and decision making are becoming a liability. Get Moss in goal.
Just to ask you a question, were you blaming Totori a couple of weeks back for the 2 goals?

Not me.

I agree when I first saw the goal I thought Paston was very slow out and could have shut down McBreen earlier.

Ive noticed Stein also seems to be on a different wave length than everyone else. Keeps making runs one way and we put a through ball the other way, or he'll do the same.

Herbert's comments postgame in the Dom-Post this morning are alarming. Good piece by Hamish Bidwell. CCM never looked like losing. Classical away performance. They doubled up on defence, had every move covered, knew they just had to be patient and the chances would come and they did. That Herbert doesn't see that - and react now with changeup tactics - then this will be a long haul. Ultimately though, the fans will decide what they think of it all - and owners won't be putting up with crowds of 4,000, because that's where we're headed right now.

I noticed that as well, and not just with Waffles. Often a number of runners moving quickly into good space with an arm in the air but the through ball rarely gets sent early while they are still chasing our runs. Usually there is a cut back and pass the other way - or backwards - giving them time to mark up. Its harder for players at ground level to see the gaps we all see but on having a look at videos after the match maybe the guys can get a sense of how everyone is moving and try a few. That goes for crosses as well where so many times it floats past the back post where nobody seems to ever lurk....

Contrary to a lot of opinions I thought it was a pretty even game and that it could have gone either way - that it why it was so damn frustrating. We had some chances as well - and it was against top of the league team which got 7 goals in its last outinng.... It wasn't like the Melbourne game where we were definitely far second.

Thought the ref did really well. Nice change.

If you remember the same thing was happening when Ifill and Greenacre first started playing for us they often made good runs only for the ball to go backwards or be lumped up field.Seems like we havnt learnt much in that time.

I think much of the angst that is being expressed is down to the fact after the Sydney game we were pretty hopeful that this season we might get away to a good start playing what looked like it might be some nice football. However what has been dished up in the last few games is below standard and i fear for what the crowds may be if they dont somehow manage something in the upcoming away games.

Sadly 6 seasons in and we seem to be making the same bloody mistakes, as a fan it is getting so FKN frustrating.

Herbert mentions in Sydney Daily Telegraph this morning re replacement Sydney coach.

"The shortlist identified then was Graham Arnold, Ange Postecoglou and Ricki Herbert, and it's believed that the first reaction within the club is that a domestic option remains the optimum path.

Other candidates could include former Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick, who worked with Cole for years and has just left a role with the Hong Kong FA, ex-Gold Coast duo Miron Bleiberg and Mike Mulvey, and former Socceroos and Brisbane Roar head Frank Farina.

Herbert remains a possibility, not least because of the relationship Pignata forged with him while Wellington Phoenix CEO, but it's hard to see how he could reconcile his continued work as New Zealand coach with an abrupt departure from the club where so many of them play.

Arnold remains highly thought of, but the way his decision to remain at the Mariners was communicated by Sydney FC annoyed him at the time."

Ifill has forgotten how to be a winger. He would never make positive runs forward. Not running.

Whenever Lochhead got the ball, Ifill would move centrally and Lochhead would have no one at tall to pass to out wide.

If Ifill is starting, it needs to be up top for me

Yep, I was screaming for him to get off his line, but he didnt.

Rogic was great here though, a couple of moments of class was all it took

Sorry, never made this game because Coldplay wouldn't change their dates. Agree with virtually all of the above- the Ref was good. We weren't that bad (having watched it on TV). Paston played like my mum. Stein was usually in the right place with no delivery. Smith had a great game. Manny nearly scored. Lochy lost his mojo after playing well for the AW's. Iffy looks tired and slow. This was the best team in the league coming off a large victory- it could have been MUCH worse.

Siggy looking more and more thuggish....he needs to be REALLY careful....

Why, for God's sake, bring on Lia? Ever?

Sack Ricki..........

Paston on the whole is p[retty slow to move, possibly cos he is old and getting to the "past it" point, the back four looked ok except both siggy and Dura pushed forward in the Mcbreen goal leaving noone in the centre - I blame siggy's over enthusiasm for this, he was often well past the half way point when he should be beack supporting the centre mids not playing as one!

This week we need to replace paston with moss, get Brockie on the wing and play Ifill up front with Stein!

I thought Bertos was one of the only ones who had a good game yesterday ! He did well defensively and was trying hard to make things happen going forward

It's getting a bit like Arsenal, isn't it? Each season there is renewed hope that this time you'll win something and once again the club's long term coach fails to deliver. I think RH should stick to the AW and let someone else have a go at the Phoenix. He seems to have run out of ideas and is just shuffling the pack not playing to a strategic game plan. It would probably mean an overseas coach which wouldn't be a bad thing - a fresh pair of eyes run over all the players. I think Ifill has had his day, Lochhead is well past sell-by and Totari never was.

I still can't understand why Aaron Clapham isn't in the squad, was anyone from the Nix watching him in the curtain raiser?

I don't think anyone would mind a mid-table struggle for the Phoenix if, as you say, the team was chock full of young New Zealand talent. Herbert is not the coach for that. I know it's a real long shot but I like what Declan Edge is doing with youngsters at Waikato.

Cheer up everyone.

100% agree.  Was always my worry with Smith in the middle.  As I have consistently said, he is a waste of an import slot imo.  To me, an import midfielder needs to have a creative influence on the game that Smith just doesn't have.
