So stoked right about now, come on you Phoenix!

Whatever Terry said in his meeting with the players appears to have worked.

Good to get an away win. And now just outside the top four. I'm not sure who I want to win in the Glory vs Sydney game. Glory to keep the league tight and compact or Sydney to keep us well off the bottom.

I think I would rather see Perth win. then there could be some trouble in Sydney. plus would give us more of a change to get up there.

2-1 to Perth. Jamie Harnwell got both. 14 mnutes to  go

I'd rather Perth lost. Tbh, I don't want to get to carried away with a few good results when it could all turn to sh*t. So the bigger gap between us and perth the better.

We're not playing for 7th/8th. We're playing for 4th (or better).  What Perth does should be irrelevant!

I know, I know, its serious!

completely agree Turfmoore.

Was it Gao with that (f**kin beautiful) corner for Doddaz goal?

Awesome win!!!

Soooo stoked to get the 1st of many wins over CCM under our belt.

Great changes from Ricki, McKain a much better fit with Brown in the middle than Johnson. Siggy was brilliant again and Dodd shames his critics with a class header! He's always been quality at CB and went beyond the call of duty tonight with a crucial goal so looking forward to seeing some tails between legs from all those Doddbashers out there, own up now Cain etc..................

Only change I would make for next week is superleo for kwas and would love to see draper get a go ahead of the horse

I couldnt watch the match on telly... can anyone describe dodds goal?
A glancing header from a corner about a metre or two from the front post.
Probably understates it a little.  It was a glancing header from about the edge of 6 yard box, near post, and beautifully threaded its way between CCM defenders to slip just inside the far post.

A wee beauty!

I know, I know, its serious!

The result was somewhat pleasing.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Quality win against a good team.  The interjection of Leo Bertos was very sound, he had a fab last 10.

The backline was secure.

My MOM, Ben Sigmund.  Durante is all class, but Siggy is a god send at the back on the right flank.  Even McKain looked good, keep him in midfield please.

Forza Phoenix.

yeh I might have to go a + 1 on that.

When you think that so many of our goals in the early routs had to do with Manny or Mully getting done on the right Sigmund made some great tackles. I think the ball got through him twice. He might want to argue on that it may have only been once.

But McKain was good. I like his combination with Brown. Not quite convinced yet about his passing game, and he did give the ball away stupidly a couple of times, once in a good position on the edge of the box. But some real potential there, and a great run to set up Smeltz, just before Dodd's goal.

edit: yep Gao for the corner there.

Commentators and press say it was Dodd's first goal in the A-League. Didn't he get one last year? Someone enlighten me - I may be getting wires crossed with Kristian Rees who I know got one

No it's definately his first in the HAL, Lochhead and Rees were our only 2  defenders to score last season

Yeah, thought it was Rees, but for some reason thought Dodd had one somewhere. At least our goalscorers this year now amount to 3

Great structure from the team tonight. Back four were marvellous.

saw Manny Muscat on my drive hom from Kings. He was walking on his todd. Didnt seem to look particularly elated so I gave him a honk and a thumbs up - only for him to give a confused "what a wierdo' look. Next time i'll give him a Who Are Ya

Just think back three games ago.
2 points on the board in five games and what did we have to face in the next 3 games ...
- home game against top team
- away game against the champions
- away game against a form team where we had yet to score a goal, let alone a point in our previous 3 visits.

7 points out of 9?  You're having a laugh.

Well, I'm having a wee chuckle right now.

Rees got one last year, and Old got a couple, but I'm pretty sure Dodd didn't.

The Dodd's was well taken.Poor defending-no one on the post.
Great win-- Dodd is still not up to A league. One OK game and a goal does not convince me

Beautiful header, helped by some poor defending from the corner... I'll take it though. Had I not seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed Dodd capable of such a deft touch

How about last season when everyone was saying he was the best pick of our defenders (apart from lochy),though i guess that wasnt hard.

Everytime hes played central defence hes had a solid game. Hard to argue with that. Dont judge him on games that he was played horribly out of position

Allegedly

To be fair he has had several good games both this season and last... Of late, Sydney at home he was immense, backed it up well against Newcastle away, and now tonight.  I'm not sure which Dodd you've been watching if that's your impression... but I suppose you're entitled to it

I think that defender on the back post was overly concerned about Smeltz drifting away from him, and so went AWOL because of the perceived threat (rightly so) of giving Smeltz 4 yards of space in the 6 yard box.

Dodd not good enough for A league? Clearly not as DM but as CB he has been very effective. To say not A league standard is a big call. HarryHotspur2008-10-19 22:25:07

+1 here

Missed the 2nd half as had to go kick a ball round myself, but unlike LeedsChris, have read all the pages I missed earlier. Great win, great run of results against difficult opposition, long may it continue.

I'd just like to point out - after the Adelaide game I said: McKain to midfield, Dodd and Durante as centre backs, Siggy to right back.

First game we do this (at least 5 games too late, I might add), we have our best performance of the season and away 3 points.

I'm expecting a cheque in the mail from the club any day now.

Bar the three points and the formation clicking, the best part of that game was definitely the clean sheet.

Last season, we only kept clean sheets against Perth. This season, against Central Coast. Although I hope we'll have some more this year, and hopefully against teams other than CCM.

Tho the first 20 mins or so were ours from that point we just when missing ..... your defense played quite well in the last 25 mins closed everything down something I did not think your defense was capable of .... but they stepped up today we only got two shots off all day that were worth anything and that is good defending.

"We were beaten by the better team", is what you were trying to say.

"Isn't the top four for everybody?," Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said after his side's 1-0 win over Central Coast which extended their unbeaten run to three games.

"We're not waving the flag saying we'll be in it or we should be in it but the competition goes that way where you've got a top four playoff and I think we'd all love to be a part of it.

"We've got to do the best that we can for our clubs and fans to have the best shot of making it."

cheers - that strike at the end by the Mariners dude that hit the crossbar was insane - if that had gone in it would've been one of the best goals in A-league history surely

Eh?

You didn't see many games last season then?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

You can thank the withdrawal of Richard Johnson or you'd still be waiting for that combination.
