I'm almost with you...99%. Still not sure on Coveny, but guess he's been a part of this unbeaten run, so should get more starts, especially considering the relative inexperience of our other striking options.

Great win-- Dodd is still not up to A league. One OK game and a goal does not convince me

Nice humour. Sydney game was only a few weeks ago and then there's about a dozen games last year

saw Manny Muscat on my drive hom from Kings. He was walking on his todd. Didnt seem to look particularly elated so I gave him a honk and a thumbs up - only for him to give a confused "what a wierdo' look. Next time i'll give him a Who Are Ya

You might see Daniel walking down the street with him next time.
His role is getting smaller and smaller and can't see him getting much game time after that display by the team yesterday

i thought he had a good game

Well, I wouldn't drop him now, even though I don't think he's been all that good. Still think he doesn't help Smeltz anywhere near as much as he should.
But throwing in Draper or Costa now would put a lot of pressure on them and would be a very risky move. So stick with Coveny for now.

i rate bertos more than kwasi aswell in terms of being an outlet to get the ball up field(other than the bloody longball) and he can probably deliver more/better crosses into the box

Yep, 100% with you on that one.

Has Kwas delivered a cross?

Leo looked good when he came on yesterday, used his pace well. I guess in saying that though he was against tiring retreating defenders who had been pouring forward. Kwasi was quiet but i thought he was okay, a couple of good moments but I would like to see Leo or Daniel infront of him

Agree that Kwasnik had a quiet game, to say the least, but he didn't see that much of the ball. Still not convinced that playing wide on the left is his best position and it doesn't seem to be doing him any favours.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I havn't seen Kwasi do jack all season.. daniel/ leo are much better for the role he had yesterday I think, they add that little bit of flair!
Would qquite like to see daniel playing again to be honest, after not getting a game for a while I'm sure he will have an absolute stunner

The only change next week will be Leo in for Kwasnik IMO.

Thought we were a bit limited on attack initially. Coveny was playing well forward of Smeltz. He did Ok but has his limitations as an out and out striker. We looked heaps better when Leo came on and Smeltz pushed up front again. This team now would be leathal with another "gun" striker. We are rock solid in defense. We just need a pacey aggressive striker to partner Smeltz.

A lack of more fire power up front will probably mean the difference between  finishing top 4 or 5th/6th by seasons end.

I think Bertos impressed enough to warrant a start, and I think Daniel needs to start also, hard to change a winning team but a rotation of Cov and Kwas for these two can't hurt and they both deserve to show what they have on the park from the start!! Cov does well even though he has a lack of pace, which all us over 30's suffer from but he can be used either first 40 or last 25 I reckon, not whole game - plus bench players just need that rotation otherwise they will lose interest and leave - and the comp for places can only help us and keep players on their toes!
I think Ricki will only consider one change tho, and in that case it would have to be Bertos to start!

He is the quickest player in the team along with Gao

What I mean is that he tires quicker as he's been around alot longer than some and it was noticable in the 2nd half that his pace was gone, zapped by the heat I would imagine too, but he is there to do the job of winning the ball first off and others like smeltz etc. picking up that 2nd phase stuff, I think he has his place definately but not a total 90, esp with Bertos now fit and itching for action!!
And how amazing would Gao be if we could get more out of him, he gets abit lazy, we need double the runs from him if possible and a little less sun in aussie perhaps...

If its Bertos in for Cov, who goes up front with Smeltz? I love Leo but he's a wing, not a striker.

True and we don't really want to have players playing out of position cos we lose!!
And we don't want to go back to 1 up front either...
I would stick with Bertos in for Kwas for now, and then Daniel on for Cov later on depending on things....I just said cov not to play a full game to allow movement on the bench, but hey he could have a blinder at home, he's capable of it in front of his home crowd...
I certainly don't want to become an over analyser
I just want us to keep winning!!

Amen. Or at least playing the kind of football we've had lately - ie. with those nice things "quality" and "passion"...

I'd just like to point out - after the Adelaide game I said: McKain to midfield, Dodd and Durante as centre backs, Siggy to right back. First game we do this (at least 5 games too late, I might add), we have our best performance of the season and away 3 points. I'm expecting a cheque in the mail from the club any day now.

You can thank the withdrawal of Richard Johnson or you'd still be waiting for that combination.

In fact the only reason Dodd and Sigmund are starting is due to the illness of Durante and personal reasons of McKain, and now with the withdrawal of Johnson we find McKain can do that job. The football gods have been smiling on us.

Ooh, that hurts Wolfman, cheap shot
I returned pretty much on the final whistle and needed quick answers though.... but I've learned my lesson and have read all the thread now

Kind of bizarre how we fielded all our central defenders....Durante and Dodd played CD,  McCain and Siggy playing DM and RB.....and it worked a charm.

Old sausage fingers Andrew Saville on One News sport said the Phoenix were still one point off the bottom. Well we are actually 2 points away knob and only one off the top 4. Too busy getting excited about the All Blacks trainig squad you goose.

How good was the save by Vukonic (?) from Smeltzy!

Oh I thought he said one point. Its just disappointing they would look for the negative rather than the positive. Am I getting too excited?

Peter Williams said the same at 7.00 this morning.... exactly the same item in fact. A lot of focussing on Dodd taking 37 games to score his first A-League goal as well.  I suppose until we become second ranked team in the world, like we are in netball and league, football will just have to deal with those snide remarks.

Just wait till they latch onto the fact that Paston hasn't bloody a goal yet! He's even worse than Dodd.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

A lot of the criticism was perfectly justified. We were absolute rubbish first five games of the season.

I agree. Don't get people bagging Covs. He's playing really well, and has been instumental in our improvement. McKain should definetely hold his spot because Johnson has been inconsistant and has shown that, unlike Covs, he is past it.]Xcellent2008-10-21 10:16:50
