I'd prefer Daniel up in the support striker role. He links well with Smeltzy, he can use his tricjks inside the box (better than 40 m from goal).
I'd prefer Leilei Gao to be played out wider, running at defenders, sucking them in

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Should be- but wont be.
PLEASE NOTE MCKAIN PLAYED DM FOR AUSTRALIA B4 U SAY PUTTING CENTRE BACKS IN THE MIDFIELD DOESNT WORK.
and i dont get why they aren't picking McKain- DURANTE HAS BEEN sh*t. Look at that goal the other week where his sh*t marking led to a goal- terrible.

I'd actually quite like to see mc'kain in a holding midfield role. i think he has the ball skills and positioning sense for that role.

He wasn't entirely convincing this afternoon, got caught in possession a couple of times.

Yeah i thought something similar, tried to run and pass a couple of times and didn't seem up to much. Would like to see him given more of a chance though, if the Waitak game goes ahead maybe that would be a good opportunity

He's awfully quick though... just defensively frail currently which is a concern considering his 'profile' as one of the clubs big signings for the year.

probably goes back to that communal confidence issue. and he hasn't played the last couple of games, when things have gone better. i thin k he'll be fine though. he's clearly class.

Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert says goalkeeper Glen Moss will have to prove he is 100 per cent fit to have any chance of displacing Mark Paston for Sunday's A-League match against the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.

Moss, the first-choice goalkeeper for the first five rounds this season, suffered a side-strain three weeks ago and has missed the last two matches, Paston doing a more than satisfactory job in the 2-1 win against Sydney and 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

But Moss returned to the field this week, playing 75 minutes in the Phoenix's 5-1 win against Hawke's Bay United in a training match at Newtown Park on Tuesday, and he is in the frame for the round eight clash at Bluetongue Stadium.

"He might be a question mark but I'd be quite keen to travel him anyway," Herbert said yesterday.

"I wouldn't say he's completely right but he's certainly a long way toward coming back. People are going to have to be 100 per cent right and Glen might be another week away from ticking that box, so that might make the choice for us.

"But we'll just see how he pulls up [today]."

Herbert has the luxury of two international-class goalkeepers who offer different strengths and admits it is always a tough call "because they're both very, very good. It's not an easy choice and as a goalkeeper if the consistency is there, then it's difficult to change it."

When Paston was ruled out on the eve of the first match last season with a head injury in the final minute of training, Moss took his opportunity and had a stellar season, while Paston has looked assured and composed after getting his chance in the past fortnight.

There is also a question mark over midfielder Jeremy Christie, who suffered a groin injury on Tuesday, while David Mulligan and Leo Bertos have recovered from recent injuries.

Same starting XI as last week, put money on it.

Cant remember that lineup but my monies on the following lineup

                    Patson
Sigmund Durante Dodd Lockhead
Gao Johnson Brown Kwasnik
          Covs Smeltz

Thats how they lined up at todays training.

I hope I'm wrong as Johnson,Brown and Kwasnik were rubbish. Would much prefer to see a midfield of Costa, Mckain, Daniel, Gao.

I watched them on Wednesday and McKain and Costa didn't impress - well Costa did when he had the ball, disappointing without it.  Super Leo did.

yep, i think that's the same line up as v Jets

if it weren't v CCM i'd agree with dropping kwas (and possibly Johhno)

but i can see that the run of draw -win- draw is so much better than earlier in the season that Ricki might want a consistent line-up for  a while

i expect leo might be on the bench, but if so willl that leave room for daniel as well? probably so if covs starts

On todays performance I'd have McKain, Daniel and Drapper on the bench and of course Moss.

Straight swap, Ferrante for Johnson me thinks.

Moss, Dodd, Leo and Daniel on the bench.

Yeah i think we will see Dodd go to Midfield to be honest, as much as it pains me. With Daniel and Leo on the bench there will be plenty of punch late in the game

Who replaces Johnno depends on how Rickie is going to play it. If we are being conservative...i.e more defensive then its probably Dodd(sigh!) If we are planning to be more adventurous then Ferrante will get the nod. Odds on as its a  tough away game, then he will start with Dodd and then if we need to attack more then Ferrante will come on.

I would love to see super Leo start....he looked good midweek. Kwasnik needs a big one against his old side. We need someone to help Smeltz out. My pick 1-1 draw.

Interesting how 442 said in their summary of the first round that they were surprised by Phoenix's defensive fragility considering the players they have recruited.....me to!

Bloody Aussies and their sheep jokes.....next time you see an Aussie ask him how come Koalas have syphillus and how did they get it?

Wouldn't think so.  Vukovich is a a cock but he's probably the leagues best keeper.
