Some food for thought......

                                                PASTON

BERTOS                   SigmUnd                 DURANTE                LOCKHEAD

                             SMITH        MUSCAT      DANIEL

                                             SANCHEZ

                                IFILL                 PAVLOVICH

Bertos at right back...you may think I'm mad...... but no! He is quick enough and covers well, has just lost his way with ball at feet (has lost his pace to take players on). This would free Muscat up to move into midfield.

The rest is self explananatory.

BENCH - BROWN, WARNER, GREENACRE, ANOTHER

What do you think?

I think no. We already have plenty of DM options, and I'd prefer to leave the back 4 as is thanks. My team would be.

Paston
Manny Siggy Durante Lochhead
Smith Sanchez Lia
Daniel Ifill Leo

Bench: Greeny, Pav, Brown, Warner

That is assuming that Greeny takes a rest as hinted by Ricki. Otherwise switch him with Leo.

I don't consider Manny a defensive midfielder, nor Smith, thay are both capable of driving forward when neccesary, hence their inclusion. this is both a defensive and attacking midfield, so I disagree with your DM comment.
|This is a good balance of guys who can attach and defend. (Smith and Muscat)

I'd swap Brown for Bertos on the bench.

edit: missed seeing leo in your team.  oops.  I think we should give Griffiths another go and give Brown a week off.

I dont get this Leo has lost his pace thing. He's looked ok so far.
Confidence and some luck are what he needs.

I am tempted by a Lia/Manny switch but want to make some other changes things so want some stability. Give Greenie and Brown a full rest. Be novel to have an actual assistant coach to be in Rickis ear, Greenie can see if he actually likes the role.
                   Warner

My rationale is thus -

Leo is quick enough but not currently with ball at feet, and procratinates a lot, hence good enough to play but not as a winger.

Greenacre needs a rest, he is a bit stale at the moment

Daniel is creating a lot, and needs more game time

Brown needs kick in the pants, his form lately has been very poor, but is a good man to bring on later in a game. He needs to see things from the sideline for a week or two.

Lia is possibly injured, otherwise would have him on the bench. He is a good player that has been left to do far too much on this own recently by Brown's lack of touch.

I quite like this too by the way...... and like your suggestion of Greenie in Ricki's ear.

Funny that no-one here is jumping up and down over Ricki's comments today that he's disappointed with the soft goal against SFC and Paston may well get a run against the grrrrRivals.

I'm assuming this is the match thread.

After 13 goals (9 F, 4 A) in two games at ROF, you'd be a mug if you didn't attend this match.

Also for all you football+cricket fans, HRV Cup action at basin reserve from 12pm. Good scheduling from NZC.

Fuck this stupid game

No way Mossy, I want my defenders to be players who can actually tackle....

Just drop Bertos fully, he has been our worst player in the main eleven this season.

Would love to see Lindsay get some time off the bench

Funny how we all see things differently.

Bertos played well defensively at the world cup and I've watched him slot back and cover Manny a number of times. Many wingers who lose their pace with ball at feet make giood fullbacks because they know how to defend from years trying to beat defenders.

I'm not a Tim Brown hater, but he has been worse than Bertos lately. We've been losing games in the middle of the park, I've been watching him off the ball a lot lately and he really is out of form, more so than Bertos. Maybe they should both go...... but if it was one ofr teh other I'd drop Brown.

Dunno much about Lindsay, but hey why not? All the other teams in the league are blooding young talent, we should do likewise.

At least is has provoiked some thinking and ghood discussion, apart from wanting to mention HRV!!!!!!

This is what the team will be.

                     Warner
Manny      Siggy     Durante       Lochead
          Lia                 Brown
Leo            Sanchez           Daniel
                     Ifill

No pipe dreams, no Brown/Bertos gone, Manny in the middle. It'll be the same formula as always with the possible promotion of Paston, and Ifill in for Greeny based on Ricki's comments. I don't know why we do this to ourselves considering Ricki has not once gone remotely close to dropping Brown/Bertos even though people cry out for it each week.

Brown is simply out of form. Work rate is down and is turning over possession by way of woeful passes or free kicks way too much. Slot Smith in.

Bertos doesn't do anything with the ball other than corner himself after taking too many touches. His shooting is hopeless too. He needs a rest or an opportunity to impact from the bench.

I like the idea of Manny getting more oppotunity to go forward, but not sure if we have sufficient RB cover. Manny appears the most potent at carrying the ball. I'm pretty sure he beats more opposition one on one a game than any of our wide players at present.

I don't support making someone captain because they have played a round number of matches that people attribute some sort of meaning to.

Yep there is no way in a million years Ricki will drop brown for his 100th game.

If his 100th game is in 4 weeks time then he can drop him for the next three! He still won't miss out on his 100th, it may just take longer to gete there.

I agree with this.

I actually reckon Manny would do a quality job at wing, but not sure about his goal returns. If ifill can get fit again, then he would do well out wide once we have a lethal striker up top

Give Brown his 100th match this weekend and if he doesn't go that great then 'rest' him next week. But given that Brown hasn't been dropped for years (I don't think), I won't hold my breath.

This

Brown will play.....Lia walked off with his ankle iced so he could be a doubtful starter. No problem with Smith starting in his place. I would like to see Pav get more of a run centrally....he will prob come on when Ifill runs out of gas. The way Sanchez and Daniel are playing at the moment having someone with a bit of gas gives them the option of threading a few through balls.

Smith should be ahead of Brown...but won't happen.

I quite like the idea of Pavlovic (showing great improvement of late) and Ifill up front if Greenacre needs a well earned rest.

Chucking a question out there. What is worse, Smith turning up late for training (if that is what it was) or Lia giving a silly hand ball in the area...?

I think squad should remain the same with the only changes considered for the starting line up to be Paston/Ifill

Just because hes quick doesnt mean anything, none of our defenders are exceptionally quick. And how is being quick to cover any different to being quick to take players on?

Hes assisting fairly consistently in his midfield roll anyway so i dont see any need to change that.

For the game just gone? I thought they were not too bad actually. Replays showed both were penalties. Only 3 yellows (2 at pens).. didn't do anything controversial. Spoke to a couple of our guys that jumped in from behind rather than cautioned. Couldn't ask for much better I guess.

I'd consider Muscat quick, and SigmUnd too.

Quick to cover is easier than quick with ball at feet. Less breaking stride to control the ball for one thing, and defensively you've got one job in mind, that being get a touch on the ball to break to momentum of the ball carrier, orv tackle. That's a whole lot easier than running at pace with the ball and trying to be both evasive and creative. It's rudimentary and I'd have thought most people on this forum know this already.

Leo is not good enough at either of the latter, but I have seen him at fullback and he coped. There are probably better option though already at the club that would free up Muscat to move forward.

Will the banner say "Thanks Tim"?

I think it should.

100 games.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

This would be great, we can do a Thanks Tony etc as well.

However, what is the chance that Stadium security will let the banner through the gates? I suspect 0.0000001.
