I think he'd hold the hands of Bertos and Brown if he could...since he LOVES them!

I think that was the longest time I've ever seen a player take to come off the field when subbed. Looked like he was dragging the entire population of Yellow Fever along with him as he crawled off.

First ever game at Westpac Stadium to pull a crowd of less than 4000. f**king terrible really.

quite good, though, that it was only the hardcore who suffered through that

Very true, was good that the 8000 on Wednesday saw a good win I guess.

Terrible game, typical Perth game, and the ref was sh*t.

I thought Smith could have subbed earlier in the game and provide more options to move the ball, but once Daniel was subbed, I was just praying for a nil-all draw.

Sad sad effort from Warner on the goal, nobody on the post unforgivable

Right across the field we were very poor.I cannot believe how we can go from good to woeful in four days. Sure the weather was not helpful but it was the same for both sides. First time I can remember Perth playing better that us.We gave then the midfield(has been hammered previously) and even guys that are the most consistant, were very average today.
Durante was lucly to stay on the pitch.
We lacked any ideas and shocking defending for the goal.
Still, we have have picked up points against some good sides in the last few games.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I have nothing against Tim Brown but this is professional football. What does he contribute to the team apart from scoring a goal every 6 games? He is unbelievably slow, has a woeful first touch, cannot turn on the ball. I mean what does he do besides filling a space?

I have seen Pavlovic for a while now and I just don't see anything in him. He runs around like a headless chicken. He tried to knock the ball past players and beat them with either strength or pace but he doesn't have either.

Why was Daniel subbed??? Daniel had a superb game for once and he's subbed? What did Leo Bertos do that Daniel didn't?

And why was Vinnie Lia subbed? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Will Brown ever be dropped? Why not have a CM partnership between Vince Lia and Nick Ward. They would complement each other nicely with Vinnie Lia being responsible for the ball-winning defense aspects of the midfield and Nick Ward implementing the creativity.

Agree 100%
The only time Pav has done anything was when Daniel set him up. Daniel was our most creative player by a mile today, at least until Ifill came on.

Pav may have a tendency to look like a headless chicken, but if dont have someone to actually deliver him some decent balls in the box, then is going to look even worse.

Bertos did very little, as did Brown, but why waste energy typing that cos I know you all agree.
Smith can be attacking player, so why not put him on for Brown?

If we had played the whole second half with Smith, Ifill, Daniel and Lia,  instead of Brown and Bertos, then maybe it would have been different.

And why give Ifill only 25 mins, is he really that unfit? Had he really given his all at the conclusion of that game?

And why oh why didnt we just get the ball into the box in the first half? In conditions like that, things will happen. But no, we knocked it around miles away from the goal and never threatened at all.

Absolutely painful to watch apart from Ifill and a few scrambles around the goalmouth

First half we had 1 shot according to the stats guys. And that shot was off target...

Awful game to watch, most of the players were off form - or was it the turn of thier less capable twins to play?
Brown has had his 100th game, he can now slink off. Burtos was terrible, and Pav just did not seem to try.
It seemed to me that Daniel and Sanchez were the only onles showing some sort of form, I wonder if they want to re-sign after that.

We now have a tough few games away (although every away game is tough for us). So Herbert may as well try a few things and shake up the starting line-up a bit.

Last of all, whats with the bloody drums - up in aisle29 (ish). I thought I was at a league game for a while.

Semi-interesting to note that (and last game against Sydney) was the oldest team ever put out by the Phoenix

http://www.aleaguestats.com/ALeagueStats_15PlayerAges.html

On the game - was a horrible one, no doubt. Weather didn't help either team. Always thought that there would likely be a scrappy one at the death to either side and unfortunately for us it went the wrong way.

Can't be too hard on them (except for Warner and Smith) Perth were just as bad.

So the coach doesn't matter then?

People are saying Bertos and Brown should have been subbed, precisely because they were crap. If someone is playing sh*t, you generally sub them off.

Average age of the players on both teams starting the game was 30.01. First time ever in A-league or NSL history that the average has been above 30.

sh*t game , all been said really. Too many had off games all at the same time.Daniel looked oissed when subbed- with good reason , I thought.
Got to half time , Jr wanted his chips and a hot dog.Duly provided , along with a lemonade and a beer for Sr.
Sr had to go have a slash.
When i got back, opened up both the beer and his lemonade. Both exploded , leaving both of us covered in Sprite and beer. What the hell happened , I asked?.Jr's response- I shook them up a bit , always wanted to see what would happen.
Little sod.
Worst thing; explaining to Jr's mum when I dropped him off why he's covered in ,and stinking of , beer. I don't think she believed me.

meh wet game, perth sat tight and were a bigger team and muscled up - thought there was a lot of blocking and off the ball stuff, difficult for us to get loose from them in the conditions, that's football

i think Pav hurt his bad arm in a tackle which took him to ground heavily and awkwardly just after he came on - he was pretty tentative in any contact from then on.  So maybe an excuse for his play

bertos, no excuse

I think he meant the subs werent the issue, it was who got taken off instead of who should have been taken off.

On a brighter note I got to meet Shane smeltz and had a great conversation with him. Highlight of the day.

Bertos at right back...you may think I'm mad...... but no! He is quick enough and covers well, has just lost his way with ball at feet (has lost his pace to take players on). This would free Muscat up to move into midfield.

The rest is self explananatory.

BENCH - BROWN, WARNER, GREENACRE, ANOTHER

What do you think?

If Herbert had any ability and had a more creative outlook on the game, todays result may have been a lot different.  Hopefully see some restructuring before the Gold Coast Game. Dropping Tim Brown would be a good start.

I had a some guys over to watch the game and here is what we came to collectively.

Warner: Surprised if he plays next week. With the goal, and then the incident prior to that when he should have wellied it and instead it went for a corner. If Warner does play next week, then there would be grounds to think that the reason that Paston is not playing is not based on form.

Muscat: Why was he not marking their goal scorer. He is the RB so......

Durante: Was lucky to stay on when he lumped Jacob Burns and then commits a foul right after.

Lia: This sub was a complete surprise to us all as he appeared to be one of the more industrious players on the field.

Brown: Going against the trend, we thought Brown actually didn't have a bad game. He didn't get much of a mention but Perth came at us down the flanks and not through the middle and this is primarily because Lia and Brown shut it down. I know he is a whipping boy but not this week.

Daniel: We kinda knew he was going to be the sub because he is the easy whipping boy. We thought the subs might have been for Bertos and Daniel looked disappointed. He is in a nice patch of form right now as I think he can't really be the whipping boy sub for much longer.

Bertos: Leo looks like age has affected him. Its easy to say he is out of form but based on the Leo of old, even an out of form Leo would still be a fast Leo. The 2012 incarnation looks slow and you have to ask if age is the primary factor. We asked ourselves who would be the fastest player on the pitch and we kinda thought that there was no one but perhaps it might be Lochhead. All his mistakes come and lack of pace and inability to beat players is because he is aging and its affecting him.

Sanchez/Ifill: I think they are two imports that are lock to be starters and if you are looking to start Ifill next week, then whom is going to miss out (and you just suspect it will be Daniel instead of Bertos).

Greenacre: We feel sorry for him because he really does give a lot of output for little reward and its hard not to feel for the guy.

Pav: I'm beginning to think that Dakota Lucas could actually provide something more than this guy. We sat there yelling at him (and someone tossed pizza at my screen when he f**ked up yet again) He might be the alternative as a striker but honestly, as an alternative, we would be better letting a 15yo loose because you know you are going to get more effort from the kid than from Pav.

Smith: Don't count on being extended when Ward is sitting there gathering dust and you are late to training and then don't mark at the back post.

As someone else said, its easy to get at Ricki but he picked the same team as last game that did the business and then this week they don't play. That's not the coaches fault. To be frank, Perth were better than us but only just. Were they 1 goal better? debatable but they could feel aggrieved if they had lost 1-nil that's for sure.

A central midfielder who actually does things, and another striker would be very welcome signings. Or a right back so that Muscat can go into midfield.

Thanks HN. Its not often my posts make sense.

I think that this is the first time that another team has actually shut down Sanchez. He is largely unknown, but had put a couple away and is now on the radar of other teams as a Phoenix player that can be dangerous ala Ifill.

THIS is were you out if Ricki can coach because if other teams look to shut him down, then can the team adjust or can Ricki make the adjustment in training, to the game plan and even on the fly? I thought Sanchez probably sat a little high and he might have been better served dropping a little deeper and fetching the ball rather than have it given to him. In some respect we (well to be faie 2 of the guys here picked it and I didn't) thought that the adjustment was obvious to make around the 35th min when Perth started to take a little more control and even at the half it should have been made and wasn't. Maybe it was not apparent from ground level because its not like Ricki has an assistant in the stand with a birds eye view to give him an alternative view.

This is were we lack the assistant who can sit up high and feed info down to the bench and its going to damage us moreif we do not fix it sooner.
