Lochhead will return at left back, leaving Herbert with a difficult decision between Vince Lia and Alex Smith, who was excellent against Gold Coast, to partner Tim Brown in midfield.

"Vinnie can play in midfield, he and Browny are well used to doing it but I thought Smithy did a good job last week," Herbert said.

"He's [Smith] made it very hard. I think he's been great since he's been here. He's been on short-term contracts, week to week and an extension now until the end of the year. He's really put his hand up, he wants to be a part of the A-League and I think he'd dearly love to be a part of the Wellington Phoenix in the future. I think he's been very strong."

I don't think they've been inconsistent

Fair enough, he has been consistent, consistently poor.

He was best off the bench as an impact player, that is when he played well and what we should be looking at, getting him on with 25-30 minutes to play, have him fresh and ask him to use his pace and run at tired defenders.

He doesn't do that much now and that is why he has been so poor.

I would re-sign Alex Smith in an instant. I know it's an import slot and they are shrinking for next season but he is a quality player.

Only in Ricki Herberts head is Lia vs Smith a "difficult" decision.

One has an accurate pass, huge presence in the air, precision in the tackle and an eye for goal. The other has compromising photos of Ricki.

OK, I haven't done any foresee-ing for a few weeks, as I'm still a bit knackered from my three way, pre-season epic, "THE Prediction of All Predictions" (which, by the way, are bang on at the moment ).

The Mojo has returned a little though, and bearing a few things in mind (Ifill back in the groove, Smithy playing better each game, Nicky scoring, Siggy being indestructible and the best defender in the league, and of course we have the best Skipper anywhere) I feel quietly confident about this one, so here we go.........

THE Prediction is here!

Drums, Spitfires doing barrel rolls, fireworks, donner & blitzen etc etc

That Other Lot     1     The Mighty Phoenix     2

Second place is ours for the taking!
Attack! Attack! Attack! Don't be shy boys, it works!

And ALWAYS remember,

We are the Mighty Phoenix! We can Beat Anyone!

Heart are a class side and with Fred and co back they will provide a major test of our side. Are we pretenders or contenders? We have kind of won games in the last few weeks without playing to our full potential so the whole team are going to step up. We will scrap and battle as per normal but if we go a goal down then it will show if we have what it takes to combat a top side. In our last two games against top sides we have tended to go into our shells and let them dictate the flow of the match....we need to have the confidence to go at them from the kickoff
Would be happy with a point TBH.

Glad Lia and Brown are playing
Such a dynamic force
Heart should be worried about Lia's crisp passing and vision and Brown's skill and movement

I think the only reason Lia is there is to mark Fred and be a defensive midfielder to keep Fred out of the game. When Fred is on form, the Heart usually win.
