As the link I posted shows, there will be rail replacement buses leaving from out back of Britomart, so only a bit extra walk. It's just that buses aren't as fun as trains.

Found out today that I won the Sony Phoenix Challenge. 2 flights to Auckland, hotel for the night and tickets to the game. Me and my son are both season ticket holders and we are buzzing that we will get to go the game. Hope it's a posh hotel and we win comforatbly.

This is now another cellar dwellar battle.  And funnily enough the breakers v wild cats is a 1st v 2nd on the table.  Polar opposites

Really? Can we find another pub.
Sky sports grill? Or will they be too into their sevens?
Edit: SSG isn't much cheaper, but they have a much better beer menu. Craft beer for $9 http://www.skysportgrill.tv/26/Wine---Part-3

Also pitchers of crafts beer at SS B&G.
Including a few Wellington models

Why would you not head back to Foxes? If you want cheap beer in Auckland, you wont even get it at the RSA

Last year I said early on the piece that we would pull 20k to the Garden of Eden. This year however with the Morgan Business I am very concerned we may only pull 11k. I hope I am wrong.

to be fair the ads are everywhere now.  Massive coverage. Pax anyone? Realise I might have also been having a go at our sponsors when these are generic A-league ads. So sorry, Clem maaate!

Don't think the owners affect the crowds as much as no Ifill and no wins. Get all your Auckland rellies and friends along!

Got a photo of the ads? I don't think they would be generic ads, it's a Phoenix home game. Glad to hear that there is good exposure though, if only they could do that down here!

Got told they have sold 3-4K so far. More than same time last year. Apparently the Friday before the game last year they shipped 7K on one day.

I'm interested in seeing how we play against Perth. I assume it will be more of the same as we saw on the weekend, which against Perth could not be very pretty. We have a few midfield options now and wouldn't mind us playing a narrow diamond to outnumber the Perth midfield, if we decide to play a bit more of a possession game. Ifill and Husygems in that system would have a bit of freedom to drop into space and/or drift wide to provide width which I think comes naturally to both of their games. Also with at least one deeper midfielder it should give our FBs freedom to push forward:

                     Moss

Bertos Sigmund Dura Hogg

              Manny/Lia

Manny/Cernak    Sanchez/Fenton

          Fenton/Sanchez

Husygems                    Ifill

A bit tough on Boyd but something I would like to see the 'Nix try and he would miss out in the starting XI

Subs: Paston, Boyd, Cernak/Lia, Brockie/Totori/Smith/Lindsay/Boxall/anyone available.

Man I wish this was the start of the season- this team still looks none too shabby on paper. Would be nice to have a having a start over! Only thing is perhaps that the front three is a little slow? This leaves Hogg, Bertos and Fenton getting up and down the wings? Brockie and Boyd on the bench is warranted on form. Brockie is a gamble- when his aims off he doesn't seem to add much else to the side.

Make a call- would you rather have Sanchez or Fenton in the advanced role? Think if we have Cernak, Sanchez, Fenton we are defensively light.

It'd be nice to see one or two midfield players other than Manny write their name indelibly on the starting sheet with some cracker performances. It's hard to say for sure if Fenton and Cernak would be an improvement on Smith and Lia or if it's just more delusion.

Will get a photo tomorrow. The main picture on the ads is a crowd shot, featuring three young people with their shirts off, painted yellow and with N - I - X written on their chests.

"NO one will show up" Let's see if JAFAs prove him wrong again.

Not that he even knew the Phoenix were playing at Eden park this Saturday.

Wonder if that 7k, was the discounted deal website ones. Will be interesting to see if they do similar again.

I'm torn a bit here.

Obviously I want a big crowd for the team, NZ football etc.

But I'm almost hoping they get about 3000 at Eden Park, all of them wellingtonians who have flown up, to show Welnix how awful their rotating team idea is

I'm with JD, I want the club to get money out of this game.  But at the same time I want welnix to see that Wellington is our home.

Yep I'm the same. It's a horrible thing to hope for, but a little part of me wants it. Another part of me wants a big turnout to support the team.

Allegedly

Maybe the best thing to hope for is for them to have to massively discount the tickets to $10 so that shows people are only going along because it's cheap - but we still end up with a big crowd supporting the team?

I don't think it'd be perceived that way. That kind of happened last time didn't it? They put cheap tickets up on grabone. Just ended up annoying me because they never did that sort of thing here, and Auckland got to lord a decent one off crowd over us, due to the novelty factor and cheap tickets.

Well about 4-5 of us are heading from Perth again to Auckland. Look forward to sharing each others misery from this season thats been. Going to head to Viaduct about 5:30pm on the Friday Night as well for anyone going to the Breakers/Wildcats game, which as people have mentioned is a top of the ladder clash.

Really looking forward to getting back to NZ

They must have sold a couple of thousand tickets through grab one.    To me it seems they are doing a hell of a lot more marketing for one Auckland game than any of the Wellington games.

The other thing I was thinking, that maybe Auckland wouldn't have got a game this year if the draw for this round meant we play in Australia.   Instead as it was drawn as a home match and the sevens are on, the game had to go on the road.

I don't think the draw is quite made in that way, with the home/away games 'drawn' at random, because there would be a hell of a lot of stadium clashes if that was the case. I think it is made with these kinds of clashes in mind, and made to avoid them.
