Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert said Brazilian creative midfielder Diego was a near-certainty to start against Perth, indicative of the Phoenixs attacking mindset.

Why is he waiting til the eve of the game?
FFS just drop him numbnuts.

You don't get it? It's Ricki's way of saying Brown will/may not be playing but I haven't dropped him.

Am looking forward to this weekend, will be watching from china (if iraq goals allows).
Would only make one change from last week, one attacking midfielder at the expence of either Brown or Mckain. with Brown maybe out I may get my wish!

Also I thought it was great to see Siggy and Greenacre get on the scoresheet in the firt game. How many games did it take last year before anyone other than Smeltz scored?

Round 6 against Sydney, Tim Brown got our first winner of the season

I think Lochhead needs some serious competition for his LB role. And I think switching Muscat over there for a game or two could work to get Lochhead going. Then put Lia, Durante even at RB ?

Tomorrows lineup:
                           Paston
Muscat       Sigmund    Durante    Lochhead
                           McKain
Hearfield                                  Bertos
                            Diego
          Greenacre            Ifill

Subs:
Crowther
Daniel
Costa
Ferrante

That is Brown's best attribute imo - the thing he brings to the team that probably makes Ricki think twice about dropping him. He popped up with a few important goals last season and not many of our players do that. I remember him and McKain playing like demons against Melbourne (I think) and us completely shutting down their midfield as well - too bad it didn't happen against Newcastle last week.

I thought Brown was poor last week, but don't think he was the main problem.

Srhoj is the Serbo-Croat spelling. The pronunciation is more or less Sir'hoy  but you wouldn't know it by listening to the A-league commentaries.

He wasnt the main problem but maybe with another midfielder with more creativity our team might have more direction. Obviously the defense was the biggest problem

Agreed on that. Last season we were crap at the start.....and Brown was out injured. When he finally came back in and we moved McCain to CM the two of them put some mongrel back into our midfield. His return sparked a good patch of results. You need someone like Brown in the A-league....otherwise you just get outbullied. Plus he bangs in the occassional goal;

Trouble is having him and McCain somewhat limit the midfield creativity.....I,m pleased Im not the coach and having to make these decisions

Looks like Diego is in and Brown out against Perth. Weather forcast is for lots of rain. Sure hope we play to the conditions. Wasnt it last year we we played a long ball game in the first game in the dry and then home in the wet we tried to play a short passing game and got dicked.

If its wet and slippery Brown would be the first player I;d select.

SO......according to Fred both Ferrante and Diego will start, for Brown and Hearfield. That means one of them will play wide. Ferrante might be ok out there - he can run. Hoping it's Diego in the middle.

It says in stuff they are tipping for a 4213
Not a bad idea in all honesty. Bit Gutted if they drop Hearfield. But this could be pretty dangerous if we've got Bertos and Ifill hitting it hard up the flanks.

Ferrante will have to defend well. But this could be a winning formation for us. If Bertos and Ifill hussle back on Defense then this could be a great formation

He wasn't the only one that was poor though, sure he was missing most of the game, but he was one one about 5 guys who weren't up to speed.

If he doesn't play this week, mckain had bette step up and lock the midfield up, and learn how to pass the ball accurately.

Ferrante does much less than Brown at CM/DM. Right mid or nothing. Don't know why Hearfield would be dropped too - he has performed pretty well. Would be happy with a front 3 of Leo, Ifill and Greenacre though..

quite like the idea of a 4213 formation. very attacking minded. bit unfair on hearfield as he hadly did anything wrong in the game against newcastle. good to see him come off the bench though.

unfortuantly with such an attacking minded 11 probably I find it hard to see costa coming on.

If we score more goals than Perth , tomorrow, I think we might win.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Had a couple of cracks but defending was average. No worse than others though

With McKain winning the ball, Ferrante distributing and Diego providing creativity we could have a very wellrounded midfield. Think Barca, Toure breaking up attacks, Xavi puting the ball about and Iniesta adding spark.

Crowther
Lia
Hearfield
Costa

Will probably be the bench I think, no Mulligan, Brown, Daniel or Rojas.

This formation could prove quite versatile down the track because we have a few players who could fill the 3 up front: Daniel, Hearfield, Bertos, Ifill, Greenacre, Chen , Rojas, Costa.

I've got a feeling they will put Daniel on the bench again and leave Costa again. Would like maybe Hearfield, Costa and Lia with all given time although I don't know what could happen.

So who is Ferrante? Xavi?

Ferrante is more like Beckham if you want to compare to anyone good.

Hearfield
Costa

Daniel would be in before Costa.
