bolton is a very decent keeper. i got the feeling before last night that the nix had no chance of getting any awards. not because they aren't good enough, but because it seems as though everyone else in the league still rates them lower than the lowest.
for some reason, no one seems to respect them yet.

Well what about Smeltz last season? I think Ifill probably suffered from the fact Hernandez is pretty well known after last seasin and some of his goals are more spectactular so his rep probably carried him a bit. Who cares when Ifill brings home the toliet seat!

I think all 3 players were right up there. Hernandez is class, Smeltzy has score a truck load of goals, and Ifinho is just simply fantastic.
it was a tight race. I would have given it to Ifill personally, but better Hernandez than say, Muscat, Kruse or Shroj

Galekovic had the highest amount of saves according to commentators in one of Adelaides games over the last week or so. However when your defence is sh*t, you are still going to let in a few

As Paul said, I'd pay to watch Hernandez. Don't think it will worry him at all.

Happier to see Paul as player of the (future) finals and not of the (past) season.

How on earth do they keep a straight face when deciding on "Referee of the Year"???

Well when youre the botton team and everyones beating you, you have your work cut out if youre a keeper, and youre going to get noticed alot more if your goals getting peppered, unlike liam reddy last week who touched the ball maybe 5 times...

Hernandez deserved his award sure, but smeltz ahead of Ifill - you must be joking, are people blind to his influence on the firsld for the nix?? oh well we can avenge the no awards by taking home the trophy!

Golden boot of the league for the second season running, helping a brand new franchise to the third spot in the premiership (ahead of the Phoenix!).

Hardly far-fetched.

Not to mention easily passing the season record for most goals scored despite the dry spell hes been going through these last few weeks.

Galekovic deserved Keeper of the year by a mile. Ifill was robbed in smeltz finishing ahead of him in 2nd! Always thought it was between Ifill and Hernandez, with Hernandez edging it...but double the votes, ridiculous!

Allegedly

The FFA want Wellington in the comp, but they don't want it doing well - Phoenix existing, let alone doing well is a political headache for the FFA with the AFC.....

Might it be realistic to see the awards in that context? zonknz2010-02-16 13:29:32

how on earth do you win goal keeper of the year when your team finishes with a wooden spoon?

I hope people complaining about Galekovic getting it because of goals conceded are not the same who told me that goals conceded have nothing to do with how good a keeper you are. ..

I think that they were close. The keeper was very good.
Trying to be objective, I think that Paul Ifill should have beaten SS as he is a far more all round player.

Bet Riki would swap Ifill for Smeltz in the AW's if he was a Kiwi-- I know I would.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I can understand how Carlos beat Iffy, I can't see however how he lost by such a margin and the fact he lost to Smeltzy aswell.

I would have given coach to the Sydney guy whose name I cant spell, but I guess Merrick has done very well this season given some pretty stern challenges put in front of him.

Well I suppose that since it was done at intervals over the season, in the first few when smeltzy was racking up the goals he would have got heaps of votes.

At one point Smeltz's projected final goal tally was mid twenties wasn't it?
