Have just rung Air New Zealand and explained the issue re date changes. Although they were sympathetic to the issue they arn't willing to waive the "change your tickets" fee of $150. Will still go To Chch but this now means we miss two games. Hard on loyal season ticket holders aye!!

Im really pissed now. Air newzealand wont budge on the $150 to change the flights plus more dollars to get reasonable flight times. Just have to resign myself to the fact that it is cheaper to have the weekend down in christchurch which will mean missing two of the nix games because I certainly wont be risking booking again to go down on the alternate date

I'm not confident that this will work either.  Maybe the club could contact AirNZ & Pacific Blue etc (unlikely I guess) if there are a good number of us.

Anyway am still trying to resile myself to missing two games when I was originally going to be at all home games.

(Yes I know I could say goodbye to $400  or add another $200 to re-book airfares so that we stay in Wgtn on 18 Dec.  Not going to happen at this stage)

Im in the same situation, Spent too much money not to go to Christchurch and miss out one 2 games. looks like I'll be having a piss trip instead.

Ive also Emailed the club and expressed my displeasure, it will be interesting to see if I get a reply

A bit torn about rebooking. If I rebook now ($60 extra on the flight) I will then be wanting the new arrangement to stay.

Well, we hadn't booked any flights down to CHCH at this stage, so we're OK on that ground.

But if anything, the main issue here is the contract between Wellington Phoenix and Westpac Stadium.

They need to get the contract changed so they're not forced to do ground changes like this ever again.

You would never see a rugby match told to move grounds because Bon Jovi showed up.

OK.. so I've re-booked my flights... Don't go changing the arrangements again. I would be really, really, really annoyed then!

I'm slightly disappointed!

I suspect the real reason they don't want a midweek game is that we had only 4,000 midweek last year against Newcastle. To be fair, it was pissing down and cold.

It was more than that, and I don't think it was even raining that night.

On the subject of rebooking. Don't just ring the number on the website and talking to a call centre or email in... I suggest you call someone more senior....  Ring the switchboard and ask for Rob Fyfe.

Or email, I believe, is rob.fyfe @ airnz.co.nz

He's on Facebook as well - try (friendly ) messaging him from there. I've already done it. (and emailed him which the spam filter will probably collect but who knows....  )

Know anyone at the DomPost? Get them to run with it....

Go on, you know you want to!!

Did anyone take travel insurance out? It's normally $25 extra on the flights with Air NZ. And if so, does this meet the criteria and allow you to get your non-flexi flights refunded? I must admit I generally don't bother on cheap flights, but it might have mileage for some.

Am curious... would the insurance cover this? Anyone?

I know that's what the club said at the time, but the westpac says under 4k:

airpoints fairy on twitter might also be worth a shot - i.e ask for enough points to change free of charge...

I'm more pissed about the fact that us in Christchurch have been lumped with Adelaide.  Was excited about Newcastle, having seen the Phoenix demolish them 3-0 in style last season, but Adelaide are just plain dull.  I'll still be there, of course.

My first thoughts where exactly this, bloody Adelaide again!

totally understand that what happened is beyond the club's control. however, surely Westpac make some money when the Nix play at home right? And since last year the crowds were good, especially for a handful of games, perhaps it's time the Nix change their contract.
I.e: only if the Beetles/Metallica/Queen/Madonna/MJ come to town, will they move the Nix games to another venue. Anyone else can go a stuff a huge hair carrot up their arse.

I was gutted to have missed it but it coincided with my son's school's concert ...... his dad went to the game and I was one of many parents following the match by text.

Yes, travel insurance is designed for this sort of stuff. Of course, ALWAYS read the Terms & Conditions of the stuff you pay for.

Like the small print that says "non-refundable flights"

Out of any possible scenario i could think of,that was probably the stupidest that they chose. Short of moving the game to Australia i guess.

This would be a good time for Phoenix management to test their 'corporate clout' around town and stand their ground on the matter, especially if the FFA/Nix had booked the ground before Bon Jovi's managers did.

Except the club have stated that the contract with the stadium says Concerts take precedence.

I was at the game and remember no rain at all.  If there was any it certainly wasn't pissing down.  I went shirtless and don't remember being too cold either - far from warm but not freezing.

It was one of the coldest match of the season, thats for sure.

Definitely some precipitation and a fair wind howling round if I remember correctly.

Yes, which is the real issue here. They need to renegotiate that part of their contract.

I wonder if they signed a short or long-term contract with the stadium. Surely they would be in a stronger position to negotiate games now than when they started.

Easy to say but that assumes that the stadium would even be interested in giving them that concession. I'm sure that a concert like Bon Jovi earns them a considerably larger sum than an A League game.

If they did get that consession then it could easily cost the club more due to the opportunity cost to the stadium.

The relevant sections of the 2010/11 membership terms and conditions (which you agreed to when you bought a season ticket whether you read them or not) are:

16. Subject to your Consumer Rights, (a) the Club is not liable to you for any loss or damage you suffer as a result of the Hyundai A-League or any Match being cancelled, postponed or changed; and (b) the Club disclaims the existence of any common law duty of care to you and any holder of the Ticket.

18. The Club's use of Westpac Stadium is subject to priority access rights of rugby, cricket and certain special events (Priority Venue Rights). The Club's A-League home games have been scheduled to minimise the prospect of Matches being cancelled as a result of the Priority Venue Rights, however you acknowledge that all Matches are subject to cancellation or rescheduling to another date or venue due to third parties exercising the Priority Venue Rights.

This is what it also said last year so nothing new.

I'd be interested to know what the club has to do to get Priority Venue Rights though. Pay some kind of premium or retainer fee?

I'm not sure but I think the likes of NZ Cricket have a contract which spans over a much longer term than the Phoenix which is probably why they get Priority Venue Rights. Not stating as facts, just speculating.

Fuck this stupid game

Yes but if the game wasn't in Chch in the first place, this wouldn't be a problem . The problem is the Chch game being moved, not the Bon Jovi one.

BUT as ive said,it probably was the best option (as long as a midweek game was not an option due to TV networks having the final say). What concerns me is the lack of contact from the club about it. Missing TonyP already

Allegedly

reminds me of when I used to stand on the terraces many years ago whilst it was snowing, players kicking an orange ball, lines marked out of the snow....and me with my plastic cup of Bovril and a meat pie....it was great!!
