we need goals so im picking something like this... Ifill does seem more of a midfielder i think, the only problem being i am not sure who to put beside Greenacre

               Paton
Manny Siggy Dura Lochy
          Lia         Brown
Bertos                    Ifill
      Greenacre   Chen/Costa/ somebody

Bench:
Crowther
McKain?
Hearfield
Chen/Costa/somebody

I am happy with the same team from the last few weeks, that is with Manny at RB. Would look to have a more attacking bench, with Costa/Chen, Caceres/Diego, Defensive Cover, Crowther.

          Paton
Manny Siggy Dura (NotLachy)
             Brown
Bertos            Daniel
             Ifill
Greenacre   Chen/Costa

3 upfront... brilliant. Ifill going wherever the f**k he wants. Would only work if when Ifill goes out to the wing, the winger in question moves into the center and opens the park.Michael2009-10-19 20:07:22

I think we need to shift to more attacking up from, Ifill looks to be better suited to wing, and feeding the ball, with Bertos (who's free kicks are becoming VERY predictable unfortunately)

I think it's the time to let the hunger of of young guys like Chen and Rojas build the spirit of the team on the park. Will keep the likes of Smeltz on his toes too, as he won't be able to pass on the 'playing style' tips to the coaching staff of the new boys.

Whenever we play 4-2-2-2ish formation it just falls back to a lazy 4-4-2 with no real attacking drive. Although I do fancy Ifill on the wing as his balls are 50 times better than any others. Whats wrong with Bertos in the center? Imagine him going round players on the edge of the box?

Our back 4 have it sussed, so it's in front of them that needs something a little different to maybe find that last spark that's needed.

              Paston
         Siggy    Dura
Manny                 Lochy
                Lia
             Brown
  Ifill                    Bertos
        Chen  Acres of space.

res.
Crows
Costa
Rojas
Hearfield

Lia to play a sweeper kinda role, but for Manny and Lochy to be on the move with lots of space for an almost 4 upfont way.

isolate Culina and he will get the sh*ts, if you cut off Culina you cut off Smeltz so just have to hope Lochy can control Porter.

Their back 4 are still a little fragile so we have to attack no doubt. Time to get out of the trenches and throw caution to the wind.

Is McKain available for this match?

I appreciate leo is a winger but how about trying him up front and Ifill on the wing. Greenacre's heading and Leo's speed could cause a few disruptions for the oppo defence.

Leo is famous throughout the A-League for his ability to miss chances.  Second only to Ferrante (and now McBreen).

No.

Whitby, last week reports said he was chance to be available nothing definite yet.

Are we allowed to bring in beach balls to RoF? (they'll need to have GCU written on them)

ok I would want to see a 442

        1                            20
2   18  22   3                    4
7   6    17   14                  13
     9    8                          12

Ifill needs to stay central, to provide more target for our midfield and for short layoffs to greeny. Caceres on the wing if fit. McKain on Bench.
Otherwise if Ricki doesnt want to play 442, he will play 4213 so i would go with:

       1
2   5   22  3
    6   17
      14
7      9    8

Just make sure Caceres does stay central, I think he could do that job, because evertime we play  this setup, we have Bertos or Daniel behind the strikers and they naturally shift wide, so if Caceres can do this, we may have solved our problem

I am Catholic and I swear by God: if Kristian Rees, whom I have seen to miss about 20 sitters this season, scores against us, I am going to kill myself in the stadium by way of kissing the hottest girl who's there (in the presence of my missus who will then terminate me).

Dont think Costa will be starting lol. wouldnt mind it myself, but highly doubt it. He is however, more worthy of a bench spot than Ferrante

so what kind of atmosphere is Smeltz gonna find? A silent one? A happy one with lots of "We love you Smeltzy we do"?
Or a more hostile one with "Shane Smeltz I gave you my heart..."?

Mix it up. Rojas and Costa up front. We're not scoring, why not give it a crack. The formula isn't working atm! Need to play up the middle of the field more and not so much wing /cross in/defender heads away. If we had someone who could header wouldn't be so bad, but we don't.

but he is

c) creative

which is

d) what we need

i'm sure he could adapt. if not chuck him in as an attacking mid or something. we're not scoring goals! gotta do something. if it doesn't work then change it until it does work.

persisting with a formation that's not working doesn't make any sense. we're not leaking goals we just can't score any.

go on News let yourself go, it's more fun for the rest of us.

Do u still subscribe to it's just bad luck, it'll come right, now we are down the track and have just the ten goals in ten matches?

Not even the slightest concern that the attack might continue scoring at about the one goal per game rate and that it won't be enough?

Not baiting you, would be interested in how you see it a few more games down the track and (in my view) with no significant improvement at the striking end.

With the exception of Saturday where, for the first time since the opening day we were unmitigated sh*t my faith is not dimmed.

Getting very frustrating as we aren't where we could/should be in the league. We are looking easily as good as anybody when it comes to possession / territory and ability to 'control' a game (well, except maybe when we're winning!). We've not really created anything through the middle of the park this season. We look about the strongest in the league attacking on the wings, but haven't made it come to enough. We seem to almost be waiting for them to stuff up off our crosses at times (which often does happen in this league). Actually one thing that might be stopping us from really exploding (in a good way with lots of goals) is a lack of real pace. That cancels out a lot of attacking possibilities for us in the final third.

Agreed. I think we've been mostly good - certainly not any worse than other A-League teams - except the game against Newcastle and the last game against Fury - gotta say though, if we don't put on a performance this weekend the faith will be slightly 'dimmed'..

I guess these would seem like sunny days if you were a diehard ex-Knights supporter.

But if I'm honest I don't feel dissatisfied at all with our performances. The big thing I really like about this team is its spirit and commitment, which is second to none in the comp. I actually think that this combination of players is playing quite close to its potential (unfortunately), and the challenge for Ricki is to find a different combination  to help us kick on and grab a top 6 spot. He almost did that last season by changing things around, so I have the confidence he can do it again.

A few alterations, maybe a good guest signing, a dash of luck and we're in.
