You'd think that people would have had enough of Serepisos
I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people wanna fill the world with Serepisos
And what's wrong with that?
Id like to know, cause here I go again...

They have a point, but there are few people throughout history who have done great good without having also done some crappy things at times. There are no saints except in the viewpoint of the one-eyed. Which is why the posters here who keep dreaming of a White Knight with impeccable funding sources to take over the Nix are... well, dreaming. I fully believe that to have the kind of ego that can handle losing $1m+ a year to own a pro football team, you have to have the kind of ego which - for example - thinks paying your bills on time is for the little people.

I think this is an outrageous statement that impunes the good name of multi-millionaires everywhere.

Sorry Daloras, but there are plenty of very rich people who don't conduct their business in the way Terry does.  If you limited this to property developers you may have a point but do you think Graeme Hart would get away with doing business like this?  No is the answer

Why are there not similar stories about other A-League owners if this was the case?

JD - very funny post. Well done.

I know absolutely nothing about the other A-League owners, apart from Clive Palmer who could buy and sell Terry ten times over, so of course he's not going to have the same issues. We don't have mineral wealth in this country, of course, so we're not going to have many Palmers (and thank all-powerful Atheismo for that, because the Knights would probably still be playing at NHS to three men and a dog if it had been owned by Palmer).

It's of course possible that they're all saintly geniuses who never ripped anyone off and are beloved by all, but that's not consistent with what I do know about multi-millionaires. You know how Bill Gates got where he is, right?

Yeah, and if Sam Morgan ever actually puts his money where his mouth is (rather than idle gossip), ask me again. But seriously: JD isn't engaging with the point of the article, which is that by many standards, Terry is a better owner than any squeaky clean gold magnate. I am simply making the argument that the personality traits that make him such a good footy club owner may well be similar to those which outrage the people who read the NBR.Doloras2011-06-23 15:14:44

Palmer isn't exactly squeeky clean, Con Constantine was never a golden child.  I'm also sure there was dodginess around some early Sydney investors.  One of the Heart owners was connected with a scam that ripped off investors and the racing industry.

And how many clubs has the FFA had to prop up (or get rid of completely) over the short history of the A-League? The majority? Those owners might not all be dodgy, but they are still useless, and it's the same end outcome.

and Sam Morgan sold out to Fairfax - that alone put him right up there with the dodgiest dealers.

Yeah, they are all the same really.

Anyone with more than a million dollars is, by definition, a capitalist dog feasting on the bones of the working classes.

The least they can do is invest in some bread and circuses to keep us poor proles distracted from their crimes.

Thank you Terry.

Seriously: I dream of the day football in this country is at the state where we can have a professional team run by a supporters' trust and we can allow Terry to go and retire (or run away from his creditors, whichever).

When the revolution comes Terry will be strung up from a lamppost with the rest of the bourgeoisie.

In the meantime I am happy to receive any breadcrumbs he knocks off the table and not bite the hand that feeds.

You should format that as an easily printable A4 pdf and we can all start slapping those up around town.

Sorry it's a bit sh*t quality, but the original graphic wasn't all that big to start with. :)

I'm kind of disappointed that it took me a week to notice this but apprently Terry's mystery lender of $4m was fellow Wellington property developer Mark Dunajtschik. I'm not 100% sure because I don't have an NBR subscription but his name showed up in the tags when the link was posted on another website.

Can somebody with a subscription please check: Source of Serepisos' mystery money revealed

If it's true I'm intrigued that the money comes from a "white knight" so close to home, and from someone within the property industry who's obviously prepared to show some faith in Terry.
