Welnix appear to be using "football" at a ratio of about 10:1 and only seem to use "soccer" if that is how the question is asked to them

love the analysis!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I really do want to know about Terry's creditors meeting, but maybe I should start a new thread in "off topic" for that.

Could be a good idea, as other than the good he has done football.

he has many small business men who have been sent to the wall over some dealings with direct and indirect TS actions.

I'm sure Monday's court appearance will reveal all.

Some questions...

Much has been made of the fact that this is a new entity taking over the license. Rob Morrision has been at pains to point out that there is absolutely no connection, or transaction, between Century City Football and Welnix.

Also, the previous holder, CCF, still exists as a functioning entity. It has simply lost the license.

I presume this means that Nathan, Ricki and the other "Phoenix" staff actually have to resign from their current contracts with CCF (or whatever Century City entity actually employed them) and take up new employment contracts with Welnix. A different siutation for the players though? Is their employer actually the FFA?

Also, what happens to sponsorship contracts held by CCF? Are Sony, Export 33, Wgtn Beds, Revera etc, technically no longer sponsors of the Nix? Do they also need to re-sign with Welnix? Is it possible some will choose not to?

And, what is the situation with season tickets? The protection and carry over of these monies to the new entity must be covered in the original license agreement surely. Tony P previously mentioned that they are actually held in trust, but by the stadium? If it was being held by anyone it would be Ticketek wouldn't it? Confusing.

Not saying any of this is a problem, but it is all very, very interesting.

If the court can see any value in the transition, I believe it has the power to claw back any percived value. Hence New Compnay, new Licence.  Player value may be of interest? But the lawyers on here can comment on this. Membership money if CCF goes bust may be an issue but it is not terry's money.

Yeah, even if Terry did have the means to try to make things difficult for Welnix, I think his love for the Nix would prevent him from doing any such thing 3 weeks out from season opening. He just wants to have a whinge, and fair enough.

See now this is where Michael Browns 'questionable relinquished' statement has legs that a few people got a bit knotty over yesterday.

If Terry has, as every one has stated, relinquished the licence in the best interests of the club, why would he care who takes it over and how they have done so? He has choosen to walk away. Granted he will want to see the work he started continued in a similarly successfully and (in my opinion) well run at times manner but who takes it over and how - who cares. It's not his problem really or his business. Similarly as Morrison said yesterday, he could not speak for the club from yesterday back into the past and was not going to do so or comment of Terry's running.

The only reason he would have sour grapes is if he was given a 'be pushed or jump' line. If he has chosen to walk away for the interests of the club and his family, why whinge about it? Bask in the warm after glow of adulation from the fans and walk off into the sunset and at least say 'I did it my way'

Pushed or jumped, it doesn't matter. This is a cruel, cruel blow for him and having been assailed from all directions for the last year it's a natural human reaction for him to let off steam now. How mature would we be in the same situation? As long as it doesn't turn into any silly legal nonsense - and I can't see how it would - then let him have his say.

Yeah I agree that the specifics don't matter too much. I am just listening to the radio interviews on ZB and you can hear it in his voice that he is a bitter man. I listen and think he probably doesn't have a grasp of the reality that was facing the Phoenix under his watch in the last few months. I still think he should just walk away like a boss rather than whinge about it.

As for maturity about it, well you can debate the merits of that all day around that but he doesn't do himself any favours sometimes the way he carries on in the media. Proclaiming that he has confidence in the WGA deal? Its not a conversation for this forum or today.

He created it, grew it and handed it over when it was time. For that, I salute the man.

Terry does seem bitter in that interview. Still seems to be in denial. Made another statement about how next week all will be revealed that will show he could of carried on running the team financially [or something along those lines]. We'll see won't we?

Do they keep Nathan as CEO or move him back to his original position and bring in a CEO. I know they said they would be keeping him on, but do you take the opportunity to go after Tony P and bring him back at an increased cost. Not knocking Nathan but Tony P was the ma.

I ask this with a hint of seriousness but also a hint of devils advocate.

cant see Tony commuting again, and with the consortium's new lack of want to be hands-on, the CEO will have to be based in Wgtn I feel

Tony P left because the trans-Tasman commuting didn't work for his family.

Would think that Nathan will stay on as CEO unless there is someone lined up, at least for the short-term.

Now ill get a season pass.

Yeah, good to see some things won't be changing.Just finished reading all the Phoenix news in the morning papers. Anyone else feel like they're dealing with information overload?

I feel like Burgess is have a big spurt session - all his Christmasses have come at once. Good op piece from Woodie and even Worthington is improving his writing.

If you want complaints I still think the DP is a sorry excuse for the capital's newspaper and that the Granny Herald despite calling poofball soccer is unfortunately better (and that by the way isn't a compliment to the Herald).

Yeah, good article, although I didn't think Tony P said anything that wasn't obvious (and which hasn't been said in this forum a hundred times already).

One thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is that Ricki reckons he only met Gareth Morgan for the first time on Friday and has never met any of the other six. I know that they have been hammering the line that they were not ever trying to "take over" and were only ever a "Plan B" but it still seems strange, especially in Wellington. If they've been talking about this for 12-18 months you would have thought that the Machiavellian John Morrison would have at least arranged for some informal introductions at some point. It just seems that there's now an awful lot riding on the various personalities involved clicking.

Yes, happy as I am that the club has been rescued it bothers me how dependent the whole thing is on everyone being on the same page. I think here especially of the Qld Roar collective partnership arrangement that went tits up last season. Warring egos, cold feet about results/direction/finance can very quickly undermine a club's stability.

Speaking of ego, it can't be denied that Terry is not lacking in that department, yet it has always impressed me just how stable and ego-free the club has been over the last four years. He may have been very hands-on but he succeeded amazingly well in getting all the right people on board, establishing the Phoenix in the hearts and minds of Wellingtonians and NZers, and putting roots right down into the community to help make the club a long term success.

Even amidst the various outbreaks of doom and angst and Sack Ricki campaigns I've never once felt that the Nix was being mishandled. It was vital that a pragmatic, realistic approach be taken from day one to ensure the long term survival  and growth of pro football in Wellington. It's entirely due to Terry that this is even possible.
