Phoenix Ownership - Rob says FTFFA (Part 1)

Owners will come and go....its the CLUB thats most important. We owe Terry a huge debt for getting the Nix off the ground but I am not losing any sleep over who owns it. As long as they can support it financially, so that it runs in an orderly fashion, then I don't care if its owned by the Blanket Man. There is no rule to say football owners have to be experts on football. leave that up to the staff.

I do take some peoples point that Terry is somewhat "tarnished" in the public eye. This is caused by a combination of a very unfair "tall poppy" media hatchet job led by the Doompost and also some of Terry's somewhat dubious business practices. There is no doubt that the Phoenix brand has been "tarnished "as well. This is exceedingly important as a positive brand attracts more sponsorship, ticket sales etc.

If anyone still thinks that Terry is a viable owner then you are in cuckoo land. There is more shiite to come, more people wanting their money. The IRD, ACC and Council rates demands are luking on the horizon. There will be no "orderly selldown of assets". Terry's assessment that his debts are less than his assets is wildely speculative and most certainly wrong.

Tranfer of ownership to the "fantastic five" is the most positive source of action for the club. The sooner the better IMO

Wow, it's so good to have an expert on finance posting to this forum. Or possibly a psychic, I'm not sure. Or a third option - someone who doesn't know what they're talking about and is making up worst-case scenarios. Please give sources or evidence for all of your above statements, and "some guy told me in a bar" isn't evidence.

Zinidane, how dare you put across this point of view. You should know by now that some people on here don't like to hear opinions other than their own. Those opinions have to be determined by a head in the sand/Neville Chamberlain approach and musn't be influenced in any way by events that some might see as obvious precursors to what will happen. Doloras, what started as being quite entertaining and wildly erotic, you have now turned into a real "bunny boiler".

THIS...

I gave up contributing to this particular topic and read it only occasionaly cause some people's re-action are so predictable and its like trying to explain to a Branch Davidian that David Koresh is just not all that

all she is doing is asking for evidence of what they posted. do you honestly think the doom post doesnt have it in for the nix? if so maybe it is someone else that has their head in the sand.

people are entitled to their opinion but imo it is nice to look at positive things as well, most of you round here would make great editors for the doom post, in times like this we need to think positive as well

alot of you people who are also saying get rid of Terry, forget that just a couple months ago you were talking about how unloyal Rojas was for going to melbourne
hypocracy anyone?
where is your loyalty?
if terry can no longer look after the club and gives it the fab five then fine, but that all has to go back to the FFA and hope that they will let the fab 5 take over
or have you all forgot about that to?

remember our 100 million savior? sometimes things arent as they seem and this fab five could not be to

The Dom Post doesn't have it in the for The Nix as you put it - they do seem to have a grudge for Terry but at the same time as many of us said from the start - his situation is very much news worthy. For any businessman in a a small country to have minimum of $203 million dollars of debt is news. Especially as its been admitted he has been trying to sell off assets for quite some while.

Supposedly his assets are valued at $230m but again most people realise an asset is only worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it and unfortunately due to TS keeping dodging questions for so long and always swearing he'd get his "loan" well the general populace now realises this is a fire sale. It is quite reasonable to expect TS to maybe only sell half his empire for no where near the price he might have got a few years ago. He could very easily end up having more debt than assets and it's very unlikely he will have this all transaction smoothly and emerge next year saying hey now I'm a small millionaire with 10m in my pocket. way more likely he'll struggle to come out with anything. And he is not alone with developers struggling to offload property

This is all news worthy and yet many on here still call it The Doom Post 'picking' on Terry

Personally I've always said I thought Terry has done a lot for the club and football and wd be great if cd stay involved. But yes I have also said from the start he needs to clear his debt and we all need a bit more knowledge of his financials and how it might impact The Nix. Having information out there - even 'negative' but actual info is better for The Nix, People (players/staff/members/supporters)  like to make decisions with as many facts at hand as poss

News worthy it is, but why is it always front page or right up there, while many others who are in simalar problems with huge tax debt and so on, are in the back pages.
if it was all the same then i would not mind, its just that Terrys problem is way more important than other peoples problems it seems. the stuff sometimes written also has no factual bases, how do you explain that?

Pretty bloody poor and misleading summary there AK Phoenix..

The real one is:

Deaker's interview was with A League Head Lyall Gorman. Said they have a very positive view about his future. Talks to him/the Nix probably on a daily basis. They have transparent discussions with him. He and Buckley are having breakfast tomorrow with him in Sydney to get an update, no indication that it is more than a usual meeting. Have had very informal discussions with other groups that have said they are interested in taking over if Terry fails and those groups said they prefer Terry continues if he can. Not advancing those discussions until/if Terry indicates he cannot continue, and he has said he would give them due warning in that case. Scoffed at footballers union intervening on player payments, it was A League who ensured they were made and there is an issue with some part of the payments that will be fixed by Tuesday.  Have said they have loyalty to him and will have until they see situation change. Been many times to Westpac and loves the shirts off.

Made one blue, saying we were playing Newcastle on opening night, wheras it is Gold Coast on the next day !!

As far as I am aware, none of these 'others' own the only professional football club in the country. They also didn't portray themselves as New Zealand's answer to Donald Trump on a tv show. Therefore, Terry is more newsworthy. There's no 'conspiracy' about it IMO.

Deloras.....how about you giving me YOUR evidence that Terry's businesses are all fine and that he will come out of all of this OK and be able to keep  financing the Nix.

Ask any student doing Commerce 101 to look at whats happened to Terry Inc over the last 9 months and you will get the same answer as I gave.

As for my background....20+ years working in international business and finance gives me some sort of insight into whats happening. Terry's situation is not unique. Wellington is a small business community. Nearly everone in business circles knows whats going down here.

This will be my last post on this subject. Too many narrow minds for me. Lets just sit and wait to see how this unfolds.
