Who the fudge cares if Welnix sells a share, as long as the Nix survive with (most of) our home games in Welly?

if China came and said I'm buying half of NZ, but we will take half of you away and in 2 years time, we will have all of you, would you be so happy?

Time to wake up and see what's happening here

Exactly. Selling a share, bringing in an equity partner call it what you will.

Importantly Welnix need to keep control (does a 50% shareholding ensure that??), and guarantee most of the games stay in Wellington (bar say 3 games max a season going elsewhere). If that ensures the survival of the Nix, including the Weenix Academy to me that is a good deal for NZ football.

Starting to really get over all this shark.Seems Welnix might be trying to play more than one game and that is not going to end well methinks. At this rate they can forget all about any sort of metrics for next season because with this sort of shark going on even some of the die hards will struggle to get motivated.

I for one will be gone if there is any sort of deal is done with an Aussie based club that gives them some of our home games. Dont try and feed me any of this crap about at least we still have a team.It will be the start and when Wellington dosnt achieve its target more games will get taken away.

Maybe Welnix have put all their eggs in the basket hoping for an independent A League and the price they are going to play with the FFA desperatly trying tohang on is goodbye Nix.

This just popped up on Stuff. The headline looks hopeful in the light of the current rumours...
Anyone else seen the statement from the club quoted in this story?

Wellington Phoenix won't deny merger talks, but say club isn't for sale

AP what's happening here is Welnix is trying to ensure the financial viability of the Nix, so they remain in NZ.

If they take 3 games a season to Australia, and sell 50% of the club (for whatever it's worth), but still retain control - that's a good deal.

Even if an Independent A League gets to run the A League, they will want to make sure all the clubs, are financially viable re licence extensions etc. They won't want any clubs to fail, that includes the Nix, who currently bleed cash each month - and at least one of owners (Morgan) is sick of that, and really wants out.

Perhaps you can buy out Gareth, and put in a few hundred thousand of your own hard earned each year, to keep the club afloat. Will give you a seat at board meetings etc, so you will know what is really going on.

If it all goes tits over arse in 2 years - ie. FFA still running the league, no licence extension for Nix, licence can't be sold as has no value, Gallop with a smirk announces Nix are kicked out of the league - what will happen then? Owners lose a couple million dollars.

YF going to do a whip around/sausage sizzle and buy them a farewell card, plus a few shoulder hugs??

Owners may as well get some cash back on their investment now (whilst still retaining the team), if sadly above expulsion plays out in 2 years.

Yep, if it turns out its a small share, with youth and W-League based over there, and a couple of games against other Sydney teams played there instead of Auckland, fine.  If it is half the games played in Sydney, while playing in black and white, and potentially a new name/logo, i'm out.

Coochie, you have just signed the death warrant for the club if you agree with this.

The reason why we are not meeting metrics is because we don't have a coach, have a sharke team, the decent players are leaving us and the management of the club has been pathetic. These owners signed up for this and need to sort it out

Pointing the fingers at the FFA is well and good but it still startss and ends with the owners. Get their house in order. Selling half is not the way

If you give in now, accept it and say good on you owners, sensible call, then you won't have a team in two years

I'll refer you back to this post

Good luck believing its only a small share and this and that etc etc bla bla bla. If you think someone is Aussie is going to throw money at us on this basis then that pretty much says it all really.

Sigh. Pointless agruing. Coming from polar opposite views on this.

But yes feel free to come back to me in 2 years.

Anyway lets see what eventuates with any deal. At the moment it's just all media releases out of Oztraylia, and over the last few weeks most of those have been total BS.

In Rob I trust.

Who knows I guess all will be revealed.

If it is the South-West Sydney (SWS) consortium, they are seriously courting - maybe SWS have a leak from FFA that their A League bid is doomed to fail, ie miss out to the Southern Expansion bid or whoever. So maybe a youth team, W League team is their best option for regular football games at Campbelltown.

Maybe there is some rich ex-pat Kiwi in that part of the world that loves football. Made his fortune selling meth in Liverpool, NSW and now needs to park his cash somewhere. A rich rugby loving Kiwi in Melbourne owns the Rebels.

Who knows.

I do if it's a deal to base the team in Australia. I'm not interested in supporting an Australian football club. As I've said before they'll play half the games here for a few seasons and then phase it out when nobody turns up to watch them play.

All the community stuff that the players do week in week out will disappear. The whole point of the Nix for me is they are a Wellington club first, a Kiwi club second.

How so.in this instance

The media is reporting the following.

1] Welnix want to sell part of the club to get capital …. True or False

2] An agreement was reached between Welnix and the SWS bid … true or false

3] Welnix had to take the agreement for the part sale of the club to FFA… true or false.

4] FFA don’t like the deal as it could effect the appointment of Southern as the next Sydney team .. True or false

5] We don’t know what is in the agreement, speculation has it games in Campbelltown in different colours

Yes, we might have to kiss that 'hire more Kiwis' dream goodbye. Maybe kiss the whole 'Nix' dream goodbye as well.

If only we could find a rich Kiwi football nut, with Terry's enthusiasm, but with a better financial underpinning, to step in and take over the club. Like...  yesterday?

Come on AP its gotta be good. We can have 2 sets of visa players, one for when we play in Aussie and one when we play at the ROF.Then the Aussies will be paying some of the bills while back here in Wellington we dont meet the metrics.Of course they wont want any thing back for just giving us money.

After the merger they rename it to Capitals Phoenix, based in Sydney to attract high profile players, first signing: Iniesta. Home games will be played in Wellington for historic reasons ‚away‘ games in Sydney.

Fake news.

The "won't speculate on speculation" phrase was posted on this forum thread by a member but was entirely made up.

I checked because "speculate on speculation" doesn't make any sense grammatically.

Check here for what the Phoenix actually posted on their Twitter account on Friday, their only recent response to ownership issues:

That sounds crazy.  I would imagine that is the shark stirrers and it's more likely to be the other way around - 3 games in Sydney (v. Sydney, WSW and maybe the extra home game against the one or the other).

Can't see the point in three games in Wellington.

The A-League Licence has 3 parts I believe - HAL - W-L - YL if we can get an Ozzy Club to pick up the 2 part we don’t use.  As has been tried before. (w-League) A few years back but FFA made it tooo Hansard  What is wrong with that ?

Yeah, I see. That comes up when you click on "Tweets and Replies"

It's a reply.

That's the Phoenix replying to a post by "A-League Confidential" but not a post on the Phoenix Twitter account as such.

It shows though that the Nix need to employ somebody with a better grasp of the Eglish language to manage their social media accounts.

Some games being played that I clearly don't totally follow. Obviously the Phoenix want an independent a-league, and it seems their only plan b is this proposed consortium with sw sydney that no one seems to want apart from sw Sydney. So I'm seeing it as some sort of threat to the ffa, but God knows what it means in real terms

Welnix saved the club from oblivion. They pay out of their own pockets and are asked to do that season after season. I don't think anyone could really blame them for trying to lighten the load. Just sucks that the FFA are at best muddying the waters and at worst undermining a competition partner.

Don't blame the fudgein FFA

If they stopped this occuring they have saved the club

Time for Wellnix to roll up their sleeves and stop blaming others

If the FFA goes then fine but irrespective of the regime, a team split between counties is never going to work and they need to clean house and fast

time to sort out their backroom, hire a bloody coach, hire some players and play some football

Newcastle did it with our former coach, no reason why we can't as well

They have two seasons

Stop becoming distracted by tying to make a quick buck, keep the eye on the ball and see this through to the 90 minutes

They started the game and have a duty of care to finish it

Who leaked the meeting? Doubt it was SW Syd. Sounds like the Nix are trying their best to lighten the load, FFA knocked back their proposal (whatever that is), but also let Davutovic know they had met.
