However any push for a team in Sydney's south will be met by a strong protest from Sydney FC. The Sky Blues are determined not to lose a large core of their membership base to a rival club after investing tens of millions into their club.

Some interesting bits in here.
Sauce?
FFA moan that we do not get enough bums on seats - Well to outsiders who don't normally go to football games will be put off as they would not want to waste money if our extension is not secured. They are to blame!

Not surprised that the FFA are the type of people that complain when people stand in the Fever Zone.
what's this FFA stmt the Nix have said they won't comment on yet?

So... does this mean Welnix are out?
No Welnix can only have the 5 year license offered to them before hand. This is no way a NIX-OUT!. It would be more likely a TV money deal - where Lightbox or Sky could only influence a better license deal in 2018.

Fark me.
So David Dome was lying to our faces?
Sauce? Did he say somewhere we were getting 10 years for sure? If so, maybe he was lied to?

Can we please have a statement from our club, letting us know where we are at now ??

But the point is that Welnix are on record as saying they needed a 10-year licence to properly invest in the club. So they might want to sell the club off at this stage.
Obviously sustainable clubs with financially stable and committed owners don't fit into the FFA's vision for the future of the A League
People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.
Sydney Herald
The days of Wellington Phoenix's participation in the A-League look set to be winding down after the New Zealand club had its application for a 10-year licence extension rejected by Football Federation of Australia.
The Phoenix will be allowed to apply for an extension only until the end of the 2019/20 A-League season but the FFA would not entertain the possibility of extended the club's existence in the competition beyond then.
An FFA board meeting was held on Monday and its decision puts the club's future in further doubt as their licence expires at the end of this season. As revealed by Fairfax Media last week, the Phoenix could be replaced at the end of the season in preference of a third team in Sydney.
"FFA has carefully evaluated the role and contribution of the Wellington franchise in terms of game development, player pathway, commercial factors, broadcast rights and the long-term strategic outlook," FFA chief executive David Gallop said. "The application for a 10-year extension to the licence does not meet the requirements we see as fundamental to the future growth of the Hyundai A-League."
Come on guys, Sky pays $32,000 a season for the A-League - That's $160k (Aus dollar) for the TV rights that (Started in 2013/14) end in 2017/18. This is more SKY's cheapness fault then any other.

No it is the FFA's fault.... they are the numpties that negotiated that deal....
Part of me wants Welnix to bite the bullet and apply for the 4 year extension; another part wants them to call these losers' bluff, say "10 years or we walk from one of the best and most sustainable A-League clubs".

Hmmm..4 years or oblivion...more concerned about the impact on NZ football development as will the owners be.
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
why say we can apply for 4 more years? I don't get what this message is intended to indicate
Normo's coming home
So how the heck did we move from a guaranteed 5 year extension to four?
Is this because we dug our toes in so hard and requested 10 and the FFA called our bluff and said fudge you the offer has dropped to four now?

I think its saying, The FFA have no idea on what they will get from FOX + other FTA TV for the next TV deal to be viable, And they need the Nix's to be just that from SKY sports or Lightbox sports.
Mr Positive
What I would do is take a 5 yr licence (or 4) or whatever it is, and then have only Kiwis in the team

So the only hope we have is to take the 4 years and hope we can somehow get by until someone at the FFA grows a brain? Fantastic.

Fudge
Herald "It has been reported that the Phoenix ownership group - Welnix - will be unlikely to be interested in accepting the four-year extension, with the consortium having little desire in investing money for the short period of time. They showed little interest in accepting the previously offered five year licence, and wanted 10 years to set up a long-term sustainable model with stability.
But Sky is so far up Thugby's arse that they would never really invest in football coverage. Look how they gave away the EPL. I somehow dont think Sky would man up and offer the sort of financial support that they pay for the basketball, netball, league and thugby.
