Why would Sky now pay an increased fee for the A League? Invest in it when there will be nothing to watch in 4 years time? Flawed logic in that argument.  Make no mistake, Aussie know exactly what they are doing and are painting us into a corner, they don't want us and have beliefe they will be better off without us. Good luck with that......

The more I let it settle in (under the red haze), the more I see this as a massive FUCK YOU from FFA to us

They offered a 5 yr licence, my pick is they could swing that with their shareholders.

We wanted 10, which upset the No Fudgeing Kiwis in our A League faction

That faction has the numbers, and came back with, you didn't take 5, now you only get 4 Fudge you

Cant see us in there long term.

This is what i'm hoping. SKY TV to save the day? Well, it was good while it lasted.......

SKY TV is a business not a charity.

The only way they whould notice is if thousands cancelled their subcriptions and that isn't going to happen

Well I for one will be cancelling Sky if Phoenix are gone, only reason I have it now, everything else I get from paid streaming services

left field idea:

take the 4 years.

run a skin and bone operation with kids on $30 a game. find a way to make a profit and suck money out of gallops bucket.

invest the money in the N-league

Regardless  it may be prudent to take the 4 year extension  and  hope for a change in FFA

I agree with Russell, not convinced this latest setback is OFC directed.

Sad news really.

Well it is prudent on the face of it to take 4 years, but the owners may have a different view, and who could blame them.

Dear Hyundai,

I will never be using any of your products, and I will be encouraging all my relatives, friends and any contacts or acquaintances I make to do same as a result of your sponsorship of the Hyundai A-league as a result of the behaviour of the FFA towards the Wellington Phoenix, while Hyundai continues to be the naming sponsor and contribute money towards that organisation.

Best Regards,

Sorry disagree with this, dont see any reason why Welnix should prop up the Phoenix for another 4 years.Just so the FFA can tell them then sorry but its all over. Think Welnix have shown there intent a shame the FFA just want to cut us off at the knees.

Frankly i dont understand why Welnix would even want to continue to be involved, why would you want help prop up a competition that clearly dosnt want us to be there..

Maybe I should dress up as a massive penis with FFA stamped all over it at the Victory game. Anyway Welnix's has got 4 years to come up with something and I know these guys are not stupid and will come up with the goods.

I'd be gutted but I would support the owners if they take a 10 or 0 approach.

The FFA have struggling teams, let's see them make a new one in 11 months or drop to a 9 team league where over 1/3 or the teams are fudgeed.

Fudge those fudgeers.  Welnix for life.

If we won the tournament the year we got kicked from the league that would be some poetic justice.

The Nix being replaced in the A-League by Sydney C would be about as popular for the existing clubs as a head injury. No-one is safe.

Seems a shame to bash sponsors who have supported our team.  I doubt they have had anything to do with this.

1. Hard News suggested it.

2. The FFA doesn't need money- they don't need Welnix's!

3. Very pissed off at this moment and this seemed a fairly reasonable outlet

The only reason I pay over $100 per month for Sky is to watch the A-League. We will certainly cancel if all we are left with is crap about repairing a shed, the Hitler Channel, ancient Top Gear episodes, cooking, shopping, cooking, ancient American series which were never any good in the first place, cooking, ancient BBC shows and cooking.

What happens to season passes if Welnix close the doors before the end of the season?

I desperately desperately hope the Nix keep going, but the only way I can see the owners taking a 4 year licence is if the FFA publically assures them that they will have their licence reconsidered at that end of the period, assessed against some objective and defined criteria. Struggling to think what those criteria might be, as many of the FFA's concerns are out of Welnix's hands (Sky deal, AFC pressure, the FFA being hell-bent on starting up Cronulla Riots FC), but some of the criteria might be:

- an x% raise in croud figures (though I think this is an unfair standard, as we have good crouds per capita compared to many of the Aussie clubs).

- maybe Nix help in trying to get Sky to pay more for the TV rights (don't know how that would work).

- some sort of mechanism for developing young Australian players

- ???

Without any criteria to strive towards for a licence renewal, Welnix would again be at the mercy of the FFA's whims in 4 years time, and would be well within their rights to bugger off right now. That being said, I suspect the reason for the FFA's move is nothing to do with crouds etc, so there is probably nothing the club can do to make its case.

Yeh, understand. I hope you are all sleeping on your Wellington Beds.

But I also don't think that a change of direction like this could have happened without being signed off by the sponsors too. And a few emails telling them that there are negative consequences to the brand from a decision like this might...eh who knows. Screw the FFA.

Perhaps it was the thought of us actually winning the league that got them freaked.

I don't want to see us begging again in 4-5 years.

If we are going out, go out with our heads held high knowing we did what we could with the fans thanking the owners for having a crack at it.

Then all those fans stop watching the a league and just chuckle as it turns to shark as Brisbanes team collapses followed by more.

This also proves that completely incompetent football administration at a national level is in fact the norm around the world. They are all on the FIFA gravy train and only worry about which junket they're going on next.

Well just when you thought that being a NZ football supporter couldn't get any worse this comes along.

Not surprising really. The noise in the OZ press for the last couple of weeks was that the Nix will be replaced by a third Sydney team...next season. It came from so many sources that it seemed to be real. There is rumours floating around Sydney that they have already got backers for the new club. They are just waiting on the Nix to fold so they can do the big announcement. The four year deal is just an insult. The reality is the FFA don't want the Phoenix in the A-League anymore. Anything we do now on this side of the Tasman is irrelevant....its too late, they have made up their minds.

The key now will be what Welnix does. I think I am right in saying their five years is up at the end of this season. They have always said they would review the whole setup after five years. These guys have spent quite a bit of their own money keeping the Nix afloat....and we should be deeply grateful. However why would they want to keep paying and then have the whole thing folded by the FFA in four years? Why would any sponsor want to keep funding something when everyone knows its terminal? People who know Morrison say he is a no bullshark sort of guy. If Welnix keep getting dicked around by the FFA he will pull the plug  100% certain. I for one would not blame them.
