Reliable source: The only thing the club have ever talked to the council about with regard to Newtown is improved training facilities.
Ah, so we're looking to get Marco back!

Seems to be some history between you and Gazza.
We're you one of his subbies that he never paid?

Does anyone on this forum know enough, technically, to give a realistic estimate of how much a roof for the ROF might cost and if it would even be doable?
I can't believe that no one has thought about Karori Park as the logical venue to build a brand new fit for purpose stadium.
Ample parking by the Sunshine Kindy at the back. As many no.3 busses as you can throw a stone at. A good chippy shop nearby (Corfu), even Brumbys and Subway for the upmarket crowd.
Benburn Park would need a massive upgrade to be the deal-breaking training ground however.

Grandstand? Those are for those soft Mar types. Nothing wrong with the hill at the back of the park (the Mtn bikers will just have to go elsewhere).

I'm told there is no truth to this story.
The owners were keen to have a dedicated Phoenix home out in Newtown with training facilities, offices, sports sciences etc etc (which from memory was already in the press months ago). About a year ago, the club looked into developing Newtown for this, asked a few questions and have moved on since.
Like they say, when it rains, it pours and at the moment, it's a hurricane.

You'll be sorry for your lack of vision when the Wellington Roosters make their AFL debut.
At least we can make a profit when we transfer Ernie to them !

Anybody who wants a flat tax rate for all, a flat-rate benefit for every citizen and strict adherence to a capital-gains tax on housing is far from right-wing.
Right-wing does not mean wealthy (although the two often go hand-in-hand).
You need to research your political terms.
I this the same Roger Doulas that was a member of two Labour Party governments?
Last time I checked Labour was on the left.

Good god you need to do some research. Morgan has sold his Kiwisaver fund to Kiwibank. Completely irrelevant.
His reasoning for opposing mum/dad property developers is to direct that money into small business investments instead, and to bring housing prices down to give first-time buyers a chance.
He is neither left nor right wing in my opinion, more a sort of a liberal/greens hybrid.
Not defending him at all, or supporting him, just pointing out that you're wrong.

But people pretending to be lawyers do.

Groan.
Might bring back a knitting kit from kiwitea street next Saturday, so we can sew his lips shut when returning to Wellington.

I agree that his son has the brains but his son also has the patter.
Morgan is a very smart man in his own right and away from football, does some wonderful things for humanity, has written a few books (some relevant, some not) has a bit of a green tinge and probably backs himself every time. When you had had his success, you would too. I think his want to give back to Wellington and football is admirable. I also think this is one where perhaps he cannot feel his way through it and learn on the job or use his other skills/attributes to cross over into a professional sports team. Yes it is a business but its rare unless you are the Lakers or the Donald Sterling, that you make money on a sports team. He probably needs to be mindful of that (or have a chat with Watson or Blackwell).
I would implore Gareth to seriously consider thinking before he does speak because its not all as he thinks. He can run the team anyway he likes but there will a correlation between the way he runs the team and how many backsides put bum on pine every match day. Also sports fans are not ignorant and in this case, far more learned than he, so he will get called on bullshit. He may see things a certain way, but needs to ensure that the masses understand it as he sees it and conveys it in a manner where those folk go 'ok I can see that. Don't agree, but I can see that'. At the moment he probably up there in terms of charm offensive with Idi Amin and Dennis Connor.
If Morrison et al have not figured it out, they badly need a PR/media guy to get control of all messages. If its Domes job, he is having a mare. If its vacant, find someone, and quick before the shit sandwich turns into a buffet.

Considering they have bought in both Hogg and Cernak on essentially a 'earn a pay day' 3 month stint with no risk to us, there are some smart decisions being made albeit small ones.

Going to be interesting to see what Gareth is like in damage control mode
... and he's talking to Simon Plumb, known to be the most tabloidy of all football journos in this country?!?

Perhaps, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, Mr Morgan is in fact largely misunderstood by his many detractors.
He is a smart businessman, an owner and a passionate and fervent fan of the Wellington Phoenix.Gareth wears his heart on his sleeve, calls it as he sees it and subscribes to that well established marketing practice that "any publicity is good publicity "
At least, I'm hoping thats it....I'm looking for some positives out of all of this * I'm-aghast-that-things-could-have-come-to-this-in-the-time-since-I-last-posted-here-emoticon*

I know the topic has long passed, but wouldn't it be great to build a 15000 rectangular seater beside the caketin for the Nix and Hurricanes and any other team. Could be run by the same staff that run westpac.
