It's alright it'll take months for them to get their $2000 prize money anyway

Kids vs nzfc team. No doubt who will win most of the time, even with a few nix fringe players thrown in.

Wow! What a trip!
Best game ever.
Highlight was when the ducks "Invaded the pitch"

Refereed by Peter O'Leary's brother.
Those 2 ducks were just trying to even up the numbers.

Don't think Conger being with O'Leary post match Sunday when they met Greenie helped the demanour towards the Phoenix.

hopefully this kickstarts the tu's season. whoever wrote the match report on the nzfc website needs an uppercut. didn't even mention the fact the nix ended with 9 men which i think we'd all agree is a rather significant part of the match!!!

so 5 nix players who aren't young except maybe musa.....the rest NZFC extras
Queenslander 3x a year.

So over half are young, even if you don't include the young 'nix extras'
The NZFC sides were always going to do quite well I'd have thought.

It was a team of kids and played like it.
So many yellows it was a joke.
Duck pitch invasion was the best part.
Followed by a Ref finally giving a free kick for a HANDBALL!!!!

Also against a Manawatu team who have lost 5 from 5 and have scored 1 goal and conceded 11.
Musa took a knock early in the second half but appeared to run it off eventually.

I really like the idea of this team being involved in the comp, but surely they are starting to see that using 8 other random players isn't working, they need to pick a squad of 18 and train and travel with them.....clearly 5 nix players meeting up with 10 extras is not going to win a lot of games.

I like the idea. After all, if the players used arent "employed" by the Phoenix then we dont have to pay them, dont have to pay the IRD and dont have to pay ACC either!

Brilliant work by Terry!

Who's going to the Waitak's game on Wednesday next week?

All the Phoenix players were quite a bit sh*t, Diego was OK.
You know we belong together...

Diego was sh*t in first half then started playing in the second. Had some very sexy moves. Just couldn't finish and the final ball was average at best.

I don't really think the idea is to win a lot of games but to ensure that the fringe players get a chance to impress in a competitive game situation while maintaining a level of match fitness. The fact that since these games have began we have seen Musa and Rojas featuring in the first team suggests that it is working.

I agree with this whole heartedly, but surely it would be nice if the 'Phoenix Challenge' was, indeed a challenge.

I'd much rather a group of 15 of the top teenagers in the country train with the first team and are based in wellington. the more i think about this working though, they'd have to be in the NYL in aussie.

That's what they're doing. They have 11 (or so) together in an Academy camp at Victoria University.
Why some of them didn't play this game I don't know but that is/was certainly the plan. Hard News2010-12-09 23:15:08

i think alot of people underestimated the strength of the ASB Prem teams. i guess if away our team will be weaker, but i think if home game all our reserves should play
