Just for future references.
A-League Sponsors-
Hyundai
Quantas
Solo
Gatorade
Westfield
Ballentines Whisky
Zuruch
Foxtel
Fox Sports
'Yes' Optus.

If any of these A-League sponsors clash with any of your suggestions, it probably wont happen.

A-League Sponsors-
Hyundai - takes out any car companies
Quantas - Airlines (does this count JetStar? as this is a sub-company)
Solo - Soft drinks
Gatorade - sports drinks
Ballentines Whisky - alcohol (or maybe just spirits or whiskey?)
Westfield - Shopping centres
Zurich - Insurance comapnies, so that takes out AIG. Could banks be affected?
Foxtel - Any TV companies available in Aus, although as covered earlier, those aren't likely.
Fox Sports - TV stations (possibly just sports ones)
'Yes' Optus. - So no Vodafone

If any of these A-League sponsors clash with any of your suggestions, it probably wont happen.

Ok... quick question, can any of the A-League sponsors also sponsor individual clubs?
If not, I think electronics companies are the best way to go, or maybe Microsoft or Apple.
You know we belong together...

I doubt it. It wouldn't be a good look IMHO. I commented on this a few pages back:

[quote=Me]
In all seriousness, I doubt Jetstar would be an option since their parent company is a sponsor of the league. Could come across as favouritism if a league sponsor affiliate with an individual team. IE - We could beat Gold Coast to get into the Grand Final, then some some idiot might come out and say "The league told the ref to favour the Phoenix to make Qantas happy, so that they'd get more sponsors exposure from playing in the Grand Final...."

Outside of manufacturing factory jobs, isn't the IT and the electronic jobs are also in the firing line during a recession? So Microsoft and Apple are not looking to sponsor anything new. what soccer teams do they sponsored anyway?

No idea, but where do we go for a sponsor unaffected by the recession? Whoever it is will need convincing.

Yep of course it will have to be sold.
Alcohol is the answer. Who stops drinking when times are tough ( our so they keep telling us they are), people probably drink more

Wonder if that Wellington based vodka distillery knew that when they decided to name their product 42 Below? My guess is coincidence. Anyway, my vote goes to Hell for what it's worth, broader appeal, would look kick-ass on shirts, they're trying to broaden into Aus from memory, would not clash with any existing league sponsors...

So you think they just picked a random number and word to name their company?

I'm confused, where does the sarcasm end and the seriousness start??? Oh well. Can we have 42 Below? Ballentines might not like that

Yeah. I just realized I told everyone to forget about alcohol companies.
But...
You never know.
Solo and Powerade are drinks sponsors (And Principal Sponsors) and from memory they are owned by two different companies.
So why cant 42 below and Ballentines get along?
One is a Principal sponsor and the other is a team sponsor.

Now that Johnno has retired maybe it's safe to have an alcohol brand sponsoring us...

Because Ballentines don't want to have rivals in the same market Also, how much of a presence does 42 Below have in Aus? And can we (legally) have booze companies on our shirts?

Maybe. As long as it has the drink responsibly logo too?
And if people say that it would encourage drinking problems,
you can argue that Centrebet is causing people to develop gambling problems.

Some may also argue, how much presence does Ballentines have in nz?
And anyway, its not all about the presence of a company in a certain country. Its all about what audience the sponsor wants to be seen by.. And that could be an international or national audience.
Rob did argue that companies wouldn't give up the chance to advertise in Aus AND NZ. But that would vary from company to company. We could have Telecom as the sponsor (God help us)

Anyway.
My prediction is this.
42 below?
Not happening.
Its audience is very limited (18+) and Kids wouldn't be able to wear phoenix shirts at school.
I agree, it would look good and the name fits very well (Coincidence?)
And in theory, it could be done.
But its just not a logical thing to do.Stefan2009-03-13 23:52:46

That's why Newcastle weren't allowed to have Centrebet on their shirts when they came here, and we can't have the TAB, we are at a slight disadvantage that our sponosr has to conform to Aus and Kiwi lawsOska2009-03-14 11:14:34

No, Newcastle couldn't use CentreBet because they compete with the TAB.  Not for any philanthropic reasons.

I still think NZ tourism (govt) should get on board with their "100% NZ"  logo. invest in some local wellington infrastructure like our favorite football franchise

Quite a boring logo.
And try to explain how the thing works to the general public.
I cant see how it would benefit the supporters too... As in, what can they offer us? they cannot offer "bartercard money" because it is not a bank and thats not how it works.

Its a lot easier to wait and find out who the actual sponsor is.
We can suggest things all we want but the fact is the Companies and Businesses have to offer to sponsor the Phoenix.
We cant just send Tony P down to New World Metro and ask if they want to sponsor a local football club.
