In terms of trans-tasman companies, Rebel Sport would be good, although I think they're still tied up with S14.

Yes, but not in Australia. Rebel only has NZ super 14 rights.

Briscoes who own Rebel is struggling, all imported from China in US$ and people are cutting back spending...

A small percentage of Companies bump up advertising in tough times, not sure if Briscoes will be one..
 
The pricks at ANZ should stump up... They are making my work life hell at the moment... Bloody graduates who have never been in a real job... think they know everything.. come to the coal face.. VENT over

I don't know if this has been said before (since I don't want to read all of the posts) but how about 42 Below vodka. it is a New Zealand company and it is global as well.

The Sony one was something like $300,000 for two years wasn't it? not to sure can't remember but I spend a bit on 42 Below and long with others. but as you say auskiwi alcohol always sells.

I like the ideas of 42 below or Hells pizza - both companies that are moving more global.

and Lat 42 is pretty close to Wellys. A perfect fit.
Now all we need is for them to shell out $300,000 a year for the next 2 years.

As phoenix is an employer and the economic downturn is affecting it, is Phoenix not eligible for a Government handout? National Party as a major sponsor!

IRD have plenty of my dosh which i wouldn't mind them investing in the Nix.
 
Or how about the Police - selling off the confiscated boy racer cars could fund the Nix too!

Any big trans-tasman banks that aren't stuffed by the recession who would give it a go?  ANZ?  I think they do netball but football would open up the door for a far larger audience.

But isn't ANZ owned by an Aus bank that isn't called ANZ? Therefore ANZ would pay but put the Aus bank logo on the shirt, which would not be a good look. Otherwise they would have to pay $300k to put the ANZ logo on the shirts and only be understood by the NZ viewers which wouldn't be money well spent.

Well rugby's popular and has a drinking problem, why don't we do that same!

Nope. ANZ is an Australian bank and it's called ANZ in Australia (ANZ = Australia and New Zealand Banking Group). In fact, Stadium Australia (Sydney's Olympic stadium) is now called ANZ Stadium.

Would we be able to do that without coming up against the RoF's sponsors? If not , Westpac are the only options as far as banks go

I dont know why people are so concerned about the new sponsor not being understood in Aus.. NZ owned sponsor, NZ owned club, simple and Makes sense doesn't it?.
There is no reason for the sponsors to be understood in Australia And New Zealand. There are very few sponsors in the A-League who are even in NZ.
How Many Times have you used these sponsors in Wellington/ NZ?
Central Coast,
Bing Lee,
QBE insurance,
Brisbane Airport.

There is no reason why it has to be an internationally recognized organization. If an NZ company wants to pay to sponsor thats fine.
The Inter Islander and Wellington Beds are getting a good deal out of the sponsorship deal and they arent based in aus. And whenever I think Inter Islander I think Phoenix.


And I dont see anything wrong with ANZ sponsoring the Phoenix at Westpac Stadium. Westpac only sponsor the stadium.
If it was the National Bank A-League there would definitely be a problem.
But seeing as the Westpac have no involvement with the A-League there shouldn't be a problem

TV revenues mostly.

NZ is a market of 4 million people. Australia is more than 20 million.

Australian sponsors pay for the max potential of 20 million viewers seeing their product name over the course of the season - potentially 24 million viewers for those that also target NZ audiences (Coffee Club, Central Coast Tourism...).

So why/how should we expect an NZ only chain to shell out the price of 24 million potential viewers when they'll only reach 4?

Throw in Australia's economy being larger and more secure, then you've got a much larger pool of options to draw from.

There are plenty of NZ owned and based companies who make a majority of their profits from their Online store and national and International sales.

If and NZ company wants to pay for the Sponsorship deal there is nothing wrong with that. Its the same thing for internationally recognized companies.
I never said it CANT/ SHOULDN'T be an International company.
My main point it that it doesn't have to be.

On another topic, For me, the sponsors that work the best are sports or energy drink and food companies.
Red Bull is a great company for their marketing because...
1. It has its ties to heaps of sports and events, and
2. It is a product available to practically everyone.
Having a sponsor that can be utilized by everyone is better because it can appeal to a larger group of people.
If we had a sponsor that can be seen and put to use by everyone it would be great.
Things like Centrebet, Bing Lee, QBE Insurance do not appeal to a huge market.
So for me.. Banks and Insurance companies are out really. (My opinion)
To me, Sony was a very good sponsor in the way of making the shirts looking sexy and the prizes and stuff they gave away.
But it didnt really appeal to everyone.

LOL. whatever the product is, it's in the companies best interest to advertise it, and sports teams are a great way of doing that. But as for something available in NZ only, hardly likely is it?
