I was hoping that it had resurrected itself out of jealousy, sensing that the club world cup thread was threatening to take the crown for 'most muppetry', 'most painful to watch', and 'thread most likely to make you want to smack your head on the keyboard.'

Stack the Phoenix squad with All Whites players and FIFA will become a major sponsor of the club if the All Whites qualify for Russia 2018 and / or Qatar 2022.

FIFA are tripling payments to clubs for the next World Cup for their players involved in the Finals - up from $US 70 million in Brazil last year (only $US 40 million in South Africa 2010) to $US 209 million for both Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

Take what FIFA paid the Phoenix for players involved in South Africa 2010 and times it by five.

Sweet.

Not so sweet is FIFA's decision to switch the 2022 Qatar finals to run from mid-November until a December 18 final.

Clubs will have to release players for about seven weeks from the beginning of November through to late December.

That would totally fudge the Phoenix in the A-League....

I read that article and I am left wondering if its the parent company or the NZ subsidiary looking for some media time with little spend.

I really hope its the real thing and we can get some full sponsorship from them. Two major Chinese sponsors bode rather well for not only the current team but future relations between football in NZ and China which could be a good place for some of our youth to get experience etc. in the future.

Just my opinion though.
