But with the players we've got it's most likely to go to a 3-5-2 or 3-6-1, depending on who's playing...

we have to play someone who can tackle strongly on the left hand side - Jimmy Downy is possibly the fastest player in the A-League, he plays right mid/right wingback for perth so he'll be up against Lochhead and Daniel.

If Costa doesnt make an impact then Elrich on for the second half. Let's face it Ahmad is the most predictable player in the team, gets to byline then crosses or hits first man then thinks he's done his job because it goes out for a corner.

Perths last goal against newcastle just showed the pace that guy possesses, it seems almost unfair.

Bah Aloisi is still injured. Why could he play half of the Becks game (and play pretty well) but he can't get up for the Adelaide game before and this weeks?

I'd rather Aloisi be fit than Johnson because Brown and Johnson are very similar wheras I think Aloisi has a lot to offer on attack.

rofl.... auskiwi u do make a good laugh... Lochhead in the middle of defence is truely laughable, as is playing old ahead of rees, as it playing Daniel on rioght wing.. as is, well hell u get the picture..

aso 3-1-3-1-2 is not the be all and end all of formations.. far from it. for a start it cant be 4-4-2 depending on situation, cause we've already killed off the Johnson should be tryed at central defense cause he can tackle" bs, its basically just 3-5-2, which is exactly what we've been doing, with players in slightly different spots.

look, i'm as keen as the next guy to see 3 defenders  keep working to bring out our attacking potential, but stop trying to lose and games and wake up, if we dont play enough defense these guys will own us down the sides and we'll find ourselves 4 goals in the negative.. WE have to play 4 at the abck, so logically the most attacking we can be is 4-3-3, and if ur that set on Costa playing u can play Brown Daniel and Felipe in midfield with Costa Smeltz and Covs up front

Well it looks like one of Felipe or Daniel wil be dropped to make way for Lochead..or was it Christie..half heard on morming sports news.  Im picking Daniel as we need Felipes hard running and passing to start with then bring on some flair...the more the season geos on the less I like the mix of both brazilians in the team.

Both Daniel and Felipe must play. End of story.

We dont need them both to play really...there is too much fluffing around in midfield with short passes, flicks and twists and turns that look nice but dont actually get us anywhere..there is also a sameness about it which is defendable against.....mix it up..drop one of them.  I dont care which...I think Daniel would be a good impact palyer off the bench if only one is to play.  He does take the corners though so someone else would need ot do that.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..other teams dont have them and they get forward a lot quicker than us....all I saying is I can see a case for a more rapid go forward being generated by less fancy midfield actions and more through balls or over the top balls...a style which is not brazilian.  We go sideways far to often with more double arounds than the All Blacks used!

it might be worth trying the one brazilian approach, much as i love felipe's skills, i do agree that the ball would get moved around quicker with someone else in his position and we have looked good in the last few weeks when we've moved teams around with quick passes and good movement off the ball

I think Ricki favours an approach which involves possession and movement, but i agree quicker delivery into the box or out to the flanks should increase our scoring chances

but a bit of variety in terms of the transition from defence, and timing of balls into the box has to be a good thing

Agreed re not necessarily route 1...Coveney or Smeltz are not Crouch..thankfully.  But Coveny did look good racing on to some through balls.  I watch the hour programme on Monday nites and look at how other teams play..as well as watching them when they come here.  We do it differently and I just wish sometimes it went forward more quickly than stroking it across the park and back to make 10m and then lose it to a flick or back heel that didnt work and then get torn to shreds on the counter...probably going to far off topic now so will stop. I agree Elrich is predictable, but with Daniel regularly out of position he is the only way we consistently get the ball in the box, unless you play coveny for his pace. I think that we need more ways into the box, and Lia doesn't involve himself enough to do this. 4 4 2 or 3 1 3 1 with Coveny and Elrich playing, and Felipe playing the second half does it for me.

It's been shown this season on numerous occasions that Felipe and Daniel work very well together and do not work as well by themselves.

yeah, i used to think that but I'm being persuaded by some of the ideas on here that felipe in particular can end up slowing delivery into the box

I still want to see him on the park every week and he was my pick for Mom v adelaide - i thought his workrate and skill was superb, but i guess that Ricki has to find a way to get us scoring again

maybe lots of two-touch in training  (and the two brazilians might be allowed 3 touches on match day)
