No, and there are sections of the media that are quite critical of the supposed economic benefits of hosting. We have a free (sometimes irresponsible, tabloid and lacking in integrity) press here.

I am fro Hamilton so this would enable me to get to a few games, however this move would kill the club long term.

I remember going to the Kingz games and sitting in the stands with 3000 people and really that sums up Auckland with 1.5 million people that do not give a toss about anything.

Wellington is the best thing that has happened to NZ football!!

Crowd attendances are at least 2k short of break even*. I'm not sure why we should be celebrating the nix as a success - it is just a financial drain currently, for any owner.

I am very grateful for Terry, or whoever comes next, but calling the A-League or the nix a success seems misguided. We've yet to make the nix work financially in Wellington, criticising Auckland as a failure seems misplaced.

4 years is still VERY little in the life of a football club. Trying to make a quick buck in football is rarely going to work. We need time, and I think break even and small profit is very achievable. Very few clubs make a profit overall.

Ferk me....I leave the country for a few days. Slave away in business meetings in Hong Kong and finally get onto YF site again.....and this happens.

Can't say I am surprised. I always suspected something was brewing behind the scenes. Things have been too quiet for too long.

Now is time for the good citizens of Wellington to stand up and be counted. Morrison, the Mayor and councillors and local businessmen need to get together and stitch up their own contigency deal just in case Terry's business's fall over., The Doom Post editorial was right.....the Nix are part of Wellington .....we own them. They are as much part of our landscape as the shiite weather and the bucket fountain.

We need some local leadership....if anything good comes out of this it will be that it makes Wellingtonians realise they could lose the club and they better do all they can to keep it in the city.

You can't blame NZF for looking at aledged other ownership options. They would be derelect in their duty if they let A-League football slip away from NZ. if the only money available is Auckland money then so be it. From a marketing point of view Auckland Phoenix might work(never as well as Wellington Nix) but they should Never Never use New Zealand Phoenix and parade them around the country like the Harlem Globetrotters. The novelty value would wear off in a couple of years.

So in the meantime say a little prayer that the economic gods shine on Terry.....or that there are some other good Wellington samaritans who would love to own the yellow and blacks.

This is diabolical. If this ever happened it would be the end of football in NZ. Wellington is the best place for the Nix and always will be, those bloody Jafas would end up wrecking it like all other teams they have had. I see no logical reason for this. Or is it just to accommodate NZ Soccer because they are based in Dorkland. I go to more nix games now than I ever would if it is in Auckland and I live in Hamilton.

I think that if you rename the team NZ and hawk it around the country you would be reducing the chances of any other NZ franchise being introduced. I have absolutely no proof or reason for believing this......

I live in Auckland and have been part of the fan base of the Kingz and the Knights. While i think Auckland will be ready for a franchise in the near future (having learned lessons from Terry and co) the Phoenix shouldn't be it. The team belongs in Wellington and what the fans and club have achieved in atmosphere and reputation proves the club should stay put.

Auckland Phoenix
Christchurch Phoenix

I remember councillor John Morrison on TV saying he had money men lined up to take over the Club if necessary. This was before the election so it probably doesn't apply now the election is over. Or was he talking about Colin Giltrap?

Who knows exactly what that means. Since the Wellington city council owns a large chunk of Westpac stadium, keeping the phoenix in Wellington is quite commercially attractive even if their preference would certainly be for private ownership.

This is true, how many people, particulalry kids do you see wearing Nix replica kits these days compared to even a couple of years ago? Awareness and support of the club is growing and these same kids will be going to matches and standing in the Fever zone in a few years.

This would never be the same if the club moved. My thoughts as to why we don't get enough people at home matches used to be that we were new and it was not advertised properly. Now though I think it's the fact that folk just won't be able to afford to go these days particularly if they've got a family to take a long.

New Zealand has become a pretty expensive place to live and the wages don't match this. Crowds in Auckland would be no better and probably worse than we have here. Westpac need to serioualy look at dropping the price of their lets face extremely poor fare.
