I didn't ask for a progress report, I'm interested in what the management team at the Phoenix actually think about the idea.

Maybe I need to be a little more direct?

Dear Tony

Do the management team think it is a good idea to take the team on the road for regular season home games as per recent reports?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Tony,

Just a quick question please? Is there any possibility of an 'out of towners' membership package for 08/09? I would be happy to part with $20-$30 to receive a team photo, pen, Sony/Phoenix flag? Seriously, I don't know if there would be any demand (aside from myself) but it could be a wee money spinner for the club, aimed at people who can't make all of the home games (as they live out of Wellington).  It would be a way for me to feel part of the action and to make a small donation to the club at the same time?

What do you think?

Cheers,
Darren

P.S. Please schedule a pre-season game for Christchurch......

If it ends up being a 9-team league this year (27 rounds, 24 games and 3 byes for each team), maybe we could play exhibition games of some sort in Auckland and/or Christchurch on those weekends when we have a bye.

Just repeating myself and keeping this subject top of the board.  I still think it's quite important and would like to know if the club are in favour of the idea of making us the New Zealand Phoenix?

Just asking.......

I'd have a piece of that! (Apart from the flag. I don't do flags)

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Great idea. The Hurricanes have a similar system running called an Armchair Membership that also includes incentives to bring people into Wellington for one or two matches. Might also be able to target it towards expat Kiwi's/Aussies who can only make it to our away matches.

Getting a bit off topic but anyway...

1. I'd stump up for the out-of-towners thing, missing the entire season and then flying from Shanghai to Wellington only to find playing jerseys were out of stock in the official merchandise store kinda sucked...! . Not sure how large the market for this would be though.

2. I'd pay for a DVD season highlights package like someone else asked about. Going by the other thread on this earlier tho looks like this would also have a limited market. As per another post of mine it looks like there might be an AFC online channel before long, including the A-League. Here's hoping...

3. Anything more on the previously rumoured pre-season Asia tour?

Getting back on topic then...

4. I agree with everyone else. Pre-season games in Christchurch, Napier, Shanghai and Beijing () would be a great idea but regular games should be in Wellington. It's received great support from you guys 'cos it's a Wellington team and it sounds like there is a great atmosphere at the RoF. Regular season games elsewhere would just erode that support (maybe lower NI would be ok but no further than that).

P.S. Where is this "Auckland" place some of you keep mentioning?

I think Yellow Fever on tour would take on a special meaning in Asia don't you?

Anyway, whatever SC03 is drinking, make mine a double!

except....Auckland is the black hole called the 2011 cup thing where all the sports money in the country goes...i think...

seeing everybody is pestering tony on this thread here is something he actually said (!) in LG interview:

We are also thinking of introducing some new initiatives for away games, where fans travelling to Australia for a game may get a ticket as reward for travelling, or even fans travelling to Wellington from farther away in New Zealand coming and attending a game. It would be a one-off reward for making the effort.

which hopefully means instead of shifting venues...

A pack like that although said in jest, would be a nice thing to be able to purchase for any fan. A proper Team Photo, a flag (perhaps even one of those car flags like they had for the thugby world cup but with Nix on it) and a shoulder bag for say $40.

As for the "Out of Towner" type membership. Great idea, I know a lot of sports cluibs have similar membership packages. Great way for people outside of Wellington to contribute to the cause and show their support.

Also, if you're reading this Tony P, subsidising my air fares next season would be a superb gesture

Phoenix playing pre-season games in Auckland? Although I'd love to get along and see them up here, I think it's a stupid idea. Nothing much to be gained from it from a Nix point of view.

ticket idea sounds good! be very cool to reward travelling fans like OOE, Jag, Napier Phoenix, the guy from wnaganui etc etc etc

apologies if it's obvious, but what's the LG interview??

we paid for our own ticket for Melb game - but got given some for Syd one. We won the Sydney one - no small part due to the extra encouragement the team got from us after we spent the money we saved from tickets on grog

Not meaning to harp on like a broken record, but if the mooted plans do happen we'll all qualify for an out of town supporter pack.

OK, so I haven't trawled through all 10 pages but it seems to me as thought we've moved from righteous indignation at the mere thought of the 'nix playing a league home game in any other NZ city besides Wellington to "oh, cool, they might do something for us if we are willing to traipse around the country following our team"

I'd like to a) keep this on the front page and b) voice my righteous indignation at the thought that the Wellington Phoenix might play in any city other than Wellington!!

Too may people seem to be rolling over on this - there will be no point complaining about it after the decisions have been made!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice......."oh look goody bags"...........

Still nothing from Tony on the way the club feel about the proposal.  This isn't a personal attack on Tony, it just worries me that one so normally up front and honest with the fans has not been able to tell us what the club are thinking.

The only justifictaion for playing pre-season in Auckland or Christchurch is if we are playing a team from that city.  I've said it before, but I think the pre-season is all about getting the fans behind the team for the season to come (as well as the obvious team shaping  stuff).

I think I read on here that the planned expansion of the league isn't going to happen.  I hope the fact that there are no extra games to be played puts an end to this silly idea.

Well it slipped off page one while I wasn't looking!

Does it not worry anyone that I've asked the same question of the club for over a week now and there's been no response?

Just to be clear in what I'm asking:  What are the views of the management at the club (Tony, Terry & Ricki) of the FFA's proposal that we should play some home games outside of Wellington?  I'm not looking for War and Peace as an answer, in fact I'll make it easy and give you multiple choice:

A)  No way, never, the Phoenix are a Wllington club and the RoF is its spiritual home

B)  We like the idea, if we can drum up enough support in Auckland or Christchurch we're on

C)  We're having a John Key momennt and have to really understand what the voters want first...

i know I'd be keen for a 'out of towners' pack...

Pre Season game in Chch would be great!!!!!

if a proper competitive game came here that'd be even better but i know if it was a Chch team playing out of town and I'd parted with nearly $200 for a season pass i wouldnt be impressed

either way, send the boys down here again, play it at AMI for a decent crowd and surface etc AND PLEASE ADVERTISE IT MORE

I don't think we should be playing home games from the A-League pre-season cup in Christchurch. I don't mind pre-season warm-up games taking place wherever, but all *official* home games should be in Wellington.
