Phoenix Transfer Speculation 2012/13

I wouldn't like to see us sign either to be honest. I prefer D-Mac out of the two, but we've seen what he is like..and let's face it, he has limits. We need to sign someone who's gonna bang in 10+ goals. I don't care if he's a kiwi (unlikely), an Aussie (most likely) or a lad from anywhere else in the world (30% chance in my opinion).

Id personally rather have a right back with our import spot than another striker.

Stop worrying.

This is the year Downey and Pavlovic are going to come good.

Trust me.

Jimmy Downey could be the worst player in the A-League. Wouldn't be surprised if he does a Mulligan and gets zero game time.

I'd like some official stats about this actually. I think Downey played 2-3 official matches off the bench..I wonder how many minutes he got under his belt?

Mulligan played about 2-3 full games for the Nix if I remember correctly. So yeah, Downey could end up playing less than Mully if he pretty much doesn't get on the field next year.

It's a thrilling two horse race!

According to the Wikipedia Page:

Downey made 7 appearances off the bench and clocked up 81 minutes. He actually made more appearances than Tsattalios who only 5 appearances (Started 1 and as a substitute for 4) but he clocked up 150 minutes.

Yeah thought that was the case. Cant see any Aus/NZ RB who would be classed as senior. Also find it odd he wants a youth midfielder when we have Lindsay? ALthough maybe he means winger like he used Rojas/Tsatalios in past. Pace to throw on against tiring legs.

Here's 3 rightbacks from the Championship who are out of contract:

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/hassell/profil/spieler_41728.html

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/lloyd-doyley/profil/spieler_14008.html

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/chimbonda/profil/spieler_18875.html

taken from this list: http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?240165-Championship-players-out-of-contract-this-summer

According to that Tommy Smith is off contract at the end of this year still though, so these might not be up to date. Although transfermarkt says those 3 up there all come off contract on the 30th of June. Chimbonda would be sweet - a bit old but solid. Don't know much about Lloyd Doyley but he's 29 and played 33 Championship games last season so sounds decent and could have a few years in him still. Can play LB and CB as well too apparently. Bobby Hassell is 32, doesn't have secondary positions listed, and only played 19 games last season so would be the least appealing.

Chimbonda is a right plonker, only in the game for the money. Puts Rigters to shame.

Yeah I read that but realistically the right back will almost certainly need to be an import and I don't know where we would source a local striker that would actually add to our stocks. They would need to be better than Brockie or Totori to really be worthwhile. Maybe we'll pick up Dmac again? Need some aerial ability in the box if we are going to play like previous seasons.

What are the chances of James Musa being picked up? Being a former Wellington Phoenix player, he did just miss out on the school of excellence gig. Or is he really that bad that he's not even considered amongst the eight best youth players in the country? (taking on board the fact he is in the OlyWhites ahead of some of the other guys)

Myers or Musa?

ADELAIDE United have ruled out bringing Argentinean midfielder Marcos Flores back to the Hyundai A-League due to salary cap restrictions.

Flores played for Adelaide in the 2010-11 season before leaving for Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League, but his contract was terminated by mutual consent today.

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/243643,no-reds-return-for-flores.aspx

Maybe we should have waited a bit longer before re-signed Sanchez? We did tell Pantelis that Wellington is a lot like Adelaide.

We may be more in the market now for a mid feilder. I heard Piney at 6am ZB news say that Panetelis is out again indefinatly as his knee now has an infection, hes off to the specialist next week to get an opinion. Maybe depending on that they might let him go if it doesnt look good. More cash in the kitty ???????

Of the options floating around, he is one of the better ones. He is a bit of a donkey but Marco showed that if you can get the ball to him in good positions, he can put them away.

Unless we hear of something in the next week or so I can't imagine there will but much action on the transfer front for quite a while. Ricki and the Olywhites head off on the 7th of July and won't be back until early August at the earliest. Still no assistant coach and now it looks like we are looking for a trainer too, means the lights will be turned off at Nix HQ for a while.

I must say I find this a bit disturbing. It never bothered me at the beginning that Ricki did other jobs but now I am totally against it. He also has Sept and Oct?? AW duty. If you look at other a-League sites they are buzzing with news and action. There is lots happening at MV. Pousticoglu has just signed a DM who has played at every age level in France( I really rate Post as a selector....he saw stuff in Costa that our bloke didn't....he also found Berisha and Partilou)

Is this going to be like every other year where we fart around all off season and then a month before kickoff we rush trial a few overseas guys and then sift through the offcast dregs from other A-League clubs....

NOT HAPPY!!!

Permalink Permalink
almost 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Ricki will be in the UK, at the same time a lot of players are coming off contract. Maybe he intends to look for a RB with any down time he gets.

We have 1 import slot left now, I would rather us take our time and have a decent look for a RB, rather than rush into signing a random brazilian RB who has played at a million clubs.

Permalink Permalink
almost 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Also we have a minimum of 3 slots to fill, 2 have to be youth and 1 can be an import. Im not sure we have been this close to a full squad so far out from the start of the season before.
