Agreed, this seems pretty obvious now given how depleted the squad is.

Waffles, Boyd + Brockie are fit and he is the 4th choice. He isn't going to be able to play at DM or LB, so minutes will be in short supply. If Watson gets on the park ahead of him, then that maybe something we can read into.

On the contrary. If he is an import and 4th choice, he is not good enough. We already did that with Totori and paid for that mofo to get out of town - have we not learned?

Imports should be starting quality and if not, they should not be signed especially when they are the ones that will make a difference. We gave Krishna a shot. If he had talent for this level (and I respect he comes in without a preseason etc) it would have come through quickly. He has not.

Not saying he should be signed, just pointing out that we haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement yet.

With the import slots being reduced to four in 15/16, it may be hard to recruit a 5th import next season. If Waffles gets a 2 year deal that he wants, we would have Carlos, Kenny and Riera competing with our new 5th import for 3 spots.

Krishna does have the advantage that he will be a domestic player in 15/16, so we would get some value if Ernie decided to invest another season in him. But again, I'm not saying we should sign him.

To be fair; Kenny C took about half the season to show that he was up to this level (around the time he played for Costa Rica against Aussie)  and he's had far more gametime than Krishna.

Ifill on a 1 year deal. I think it's very easy to find a 5th

Might be the centreback for the Shire Wanderers.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Sam Burfoot aka Samwise Gamgee Proudfoot, ACFC. ex-Shire FC (middle England), tenacious, middling height, hairy toes.

Came here to say the same thing.

What did Laurel and Hardy say when they said the same thing at the same time?

Musa to re-sign as injury cover? #neversaynever

A 5th center back is (i hope) not the highest priority.

Wouldn't it be 6th now we've got Timmins?

Timmins was a Left Back with the Brummies (released the year before Rowe, interestingly), why are we saying he is a CB when he was been signed as LB cover?

This has been brought up before but I don't recall, where is Rowe at the moment? Would he have not been a better candidate than Timmins?(actually could have signed both as Riera and Caira injury cover)

Because as I understand it he can play centreback as well, and was playing there for TW (although I may be wrong about that last bit) transfermarkt says he can play anywhere across the back but obviously that's not definitive. The point being that we already have 5 players who can play CB (Dura, Siggy, Boxall, Adams, and now Timmins) so why sign another when our defensive midfield and fullback stocks are where the injuries are hurting us?

Edit: and I know Musa has played fullback before but it's definitely not his primary position so signing him as one would seem a bit weird.

Sign Michael Eagar as injury cover, now captaining South Melbourne after getting player of the season with VPL winning side Northcote and quite easily capable of filling this roll. someone needs to get him on Merricks radar...

11 Mar 20:50

Paul Ifill reads this place. You would have to think the Phoenix are aware of him.

Would people want Smeltz back if Stein does leave? I suspect Ernie will want someone faster.

also he's getting on a bit and has had a string of injuries recently

I think I drunkenly mention Eager to Merrick post game after Riera was injured. So I probably blew Eager's chances there.

Shaun Gill, who is their ops guy, is from Miramar so knows about him.

11 Mar 21:40

Ernie has tons of contacts in Melbourne. Im sure if he keeps doing well in the VPL, that his name will get passed on.

11 Mar 22:20

2nd Best, that is brilliant! I hope it does happen one day soon, Eags deserves his shot!

With Lia resigned do we have much space in the squad list for another midfielder?

An area of weakness it seems like we are staying with what we have will do combo.

No clue with regard to cap space but we have 17/23 roster spots filled and 2 visa spots available.

Riera will be back. As a combo they were probably pretty close to the best Central Midfield pairing in the A League prior to Riera getting injured.

Myself, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Proven goalscorer at this level over a number of years, who doesn't take up an import spot. Can understand the arguments against though. Would also be dependent on him being realistic about wages also.

Tom Doyle training with the Nix....Speculate away!

18 Mar 20:13

He's just a young pup. No chance of being signed imo.

Perhaps they are looking at him for next season - get him with the squad see how he does and if he looks the goods he's got a good off season to work along side the big boys.

Still a young NZ defender.

It really does seem like Adams is going to be Merricks version of Ricki and Lindsey.

18 Mar 20:32

I thought he was in his 20's? Is there anyone else? I would have thought we need another injury replacement for this week.

He is the 4th choice CB, unless you have massive injury problems/suspensions they are not going to play much.
18 Mar 23:48

maybe hes also in to make up numbers in training

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

As per the other thread, I'm guessing he will be the injury replacement for this weekend. Short term injury cover signing if Timmings doesn't pull through? (not that he is dying!)

Dura and Sigmund have been pretty constant this season, hasn't really been any opportunities to give Adams a shot. CBs generally don't get rotated for the fun of it.

19 Mar 02:40

Paulm, you are right on the consistency. Though I was hoping that Boxall would be able to push Siggy for a starting spot. Due to the many, many injuries it hasnt eventuated.

Well he was in the school of excellence last year, and didn't someone on the pod say he was the best TW player in the ASB Prem final? Would make sense that he's been looked at.
19 Mar 03:31

Haven't listened to the pod but I agree that he was the best TW player in the final and if he's there on the back of that performance it doesn't surprise me.

Fuck this stupid game
