Pretty good for an under 20 year old player, I reckon he will be a strong player over the next couple of years as he gets a little older.

If he was signed as a squad player no worries, but not as one of 2 key signings. They need to be strong players now, not potential stars.

I think he's good for his age, but from the things he (apparently) said about Wellington (that it's a shit place to live, basically) - I don't want him at the club. Of course, that is hearsay so I won't comment on it too much.

Surely the fact that he thinks Wellington is a shit place to live should not have too much bearing on playing for us. Would you turn down Messi.

Without wanting too put too fine a point on it, it's not exactly a completely outrageous statement...

Jay Bothroyd (31) is about to be released from QPR. A League would be more his level. Striker for the Nix?

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Wellington is a great place to live, but when you're an arrogant Aussie, you possibly feel differently.

In terms of standard of living, Wellington and New Zealand in general is considered amongst the best in the world. What would he do if he got an offer to play for a club in the middle of Russia?

This. I've been here 7 years, and I'm over it. The # 1 thing that stops me turning out for Nix games, the weather. Why pay $30 to pick up the flu when I can enjoy it from the comfort of my house?

The reason for paying the $$$ is to give you the excuse to dress up, get pissed and shout yourself hoarse in the company of a few thousand other like-minded idiots, surely. Not much fun doing it solo in front of TV.

Depends where in Russia, One of the big cities would be great - the standard of living might not be high but if you have the money its very good. Moscow unofficially has around 15 million residents - its an amazing place which has the best and the worst in it. St Petersberg is stunning as is Novgorod - around Rostov on Don or Volgagrad would also be cool with the Caucasus mountains only a 12 hour train trip away.

The fact that its so different means that its an experience. I love spending time in Russia.

And also Wellington, despite being - as John Key puts it - a dieing city, consistently has the happiest and most satisfied residents in NZ.  Plus we have a football club.

+ 1

Auckland is spoilt for choice for entertainment. In Wellington, being an active sports fan is for the hardcore. Which is why the Fever are the superior fan group.

You should know that you get the flu from a virus, not the weather. And if you purchased a season ticket the cost per game is about half that.

"Harden up."

I'm just offering perspective of someone who made one game last season, and that was in Melbourne. When the weather is shite I'd rather not be taking me chances at the stadium. Especially on a Sunday night. I think a lot of people agree with me, well most of my mates who turn up to my place to watch the game...

The point is to determine whether I'm a soft cock, but rather that supporting the Nix at the cake tin is bloody hard work. Especially when their football is shite, and given we're discussing this in a transfer thread this doesn't make Wellington that appealing as a player.

Yeah, the weather can be bad but now that the season runs form mid October until April it is mostly ok. If people are around over the Summer and haven't got a season ticket, they should look at getting the 'Nix summer six pack - last season silver adult was less than $15 per game. Everything is going to be harder than rolling out of bed and lounging in your pjs in front of the tv unfortunately.
As a player you are far more likely to get unfavourable weather in a lot Europe during their season than in Wgtn and Wgtn is one of the more liveable cities in the world: http://www.mercer.com/qualityoflivingpr#city-rankings

Last season the weather was probably as good as it has been in 6 years, only a couple of wet ones. The GOOD weather was given as an excuse why we performed sop poorly at home!

Entirely off topic but Osler's Bakery is still there (new owners) offering such delights as the boil up pie. A compulsory stop when going through Wairoa which isn't really a shit hole, I just said that for comedy reasons.

That is what started the current talk of cr*p places to live. Only two Aussie u20's off contract that Greenacre can look at are Gameiro & Maclaren. And Corey doesn't wanna be here cuz he thinks Welly is cr*p aparently.
