Just watched Kiwi kids vs Croatia.  Ernie sign Tuiloma, please....he played an excellent game as a CB. At 18 he is a great prospect. Can play RB, LB  and CB.  Roux would be worth a further look as well.  These two could be the future wide defenders at the Nix. If anyone doubts this then who else should we sign instead?

Roux signed with Mariners I believe.

No thanks. A bit of a nut-case if I remember correctly.

Sounds like Roux has gone to CCM ..missed opportunity there

Should we be going after Cameron Howieson?  Not in Burnley's first team squad and far more likely to get game time in NZ which he'll need to break into the All Whites - A-League probably a good level for him and we can probably compete on wages with plenty of cap space.  Shaping up as the best in that age group.  Kind of player I'd like to see us targeting

Yes please.

Howieson is a class act. Probably best we could hope for is a loan spell. He would get serious game time at the Nix. He gets loaned out from Burnley and sits on the bench. Not the best way for a young player to develop. Playing in the rough and tumble of the A-League would be good for his development. Can't see it happening though.

As for  Roux to CCM...is that confirmed?  Because it would suck if it true. Roux is exactly the sort of young talent we should be picking up. Not saying he's immediate A-League starting material but he looks like if nurtured properly he could be a useful A-League RB. Obviously CCM see something in him. Remember we are happy to have Fenton  playing for us this season but at the U20,s Roux made more of an impact than Fenton did....by quite a margin. I kind of thought that the Ernie said they would have a look at the U20,s to see if any were Nix material. Its his call.....if he thinks he can find better RB in NZ or Oz then that's fine by me but if Roux does OK at CCM then we would consider it a lost opportunity for the Nix.

Yep, I didn't use to rate Howieson, but he was quite good at the U20 World Cup. How that translates into senior football is a different story, but think he's worth pursuing. When does his deal at Burnley run out?

Why would he choose us over CCM ..?
They are a  championship winning team that has a great track record of nurturing young players

You really think we would've made an offer? We're not ones for getting out of the starting blocks...
Oh and I suggested Howieson months ago and people were ho hum...

We need to target Bill Tuiloma, Howieson (on loan) and look at perhaps doing the same with Tim Payne IMO. Would like to see Ryan Thomas in the Academy and training with the seniors

We definitely need a few - can't see us filling up the books any other way at the moment.

Isn't up on CCM's website yet but I've seen it reported by Soccer Stoppage Time, Piney and Football West.

On Soccer Stoppage Time's show last night, they suggested Arnold signed him sight unseen on the recommendation of from someone at Football West. Tho I find that strange, I would think Arnold would be watching the NYL and seen him play there.

Must've been some loophole in the nationality department, I doubt CCM would've signed him if he was classified as an import.

Born in South Africa, raised in NZ & Aussie. He has his Aussie citizenship, so isn't an import.

This
When you look at the history of Nix recruiting the words proactive, thorough, meticulous, on the front foot don't immediately spring to mind. We normally do very little in the off season then there is a mad scramble to sign people just as the season is about to start. Then we end up with bizarre signings like Toto, Chen etc

The club flagged they would be checking out the U21 guys. You would think they would already have dossiers on each of the players and had already been following their progress. The individual performances from the tournament would have just added crosses or ticks to any assessment already made. Surely they would have had a list of players they would target.

Not blaming Ernie over this...he has just got his feet under the desk and he has only really seen first hand some of the players at training in the last few weeks. Maybe they have looked at the Youth guys and decided they could find better players elsewhere. Apart from the two import slots I am interested in where we are going to find the rest of the squad......because the end of season A-League cast offs have been well and truely picked over by other clubs. Australian State leagues perhaps????????

Juric, Gameiro and MacLaren so far but I will hold off judgement until they have played a few games. They could easily end up like Markelis, Stella did last season or the next Kaz Patafta, Nicky Ward in previous years. A-League history is littered with kids that have come back from Europe with big reps and done nothing.

Personally I always thought that Musa had some potential, but it sounded like his attitude wasn't great. If that's been sorted out, then I reckon he's worth another look as a development project. If not, then pass.

with time in a more professional environment might have served Musa well. But I reckon, while he is in England, then he should give a crack with some other team, maybe a champion/div1 team.

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

I still add that when we have Durante, Sigmund and Boxall and Ernie has said he wants another starting CB, if you add Musa in, that makes him number 5 in the pecking order..... The kicker for him is that he is left footed and would provide some cover as a CB/LB meaning we would only need to sign one of Hogg/Rowe.

If Musa was brought in that would make 4 buddy. Rather Musa was signed along with Rowe as above. Hogg = no thanks

But when Ernie signs the starting center back that he wants (like Jeff said), he will go ahead of Musa in the pecking order, making Musa 5th.

Eh, should be focussing on signing the best FBs and CMs first.

Never understood that. Its not a matter of working on signing one before working on signing another.

Find it strange when we sign someone and people get annoyed because they think we should sign someone who plays a different position.

I agree Tegal. The club will absolutely be talking to more than 1 free agent at a time but that does get forgotten because all they see is the announcement.

Well, I think that if you look at the squad you should be able to pin point positions of weakness and probably focus more on those. If we happen to strengthen our FB and CM positions but end with a CB pairing of Dura and Siggy is that the end of the world? Or if we get another starting CB, Dura and ?, and thus have less to spend on positions elsewhere it could leave us with a less than optimal squad balance. But that is up to Ernie to decide what that is. I'm merely expressing my opinion.

We shall see JV. I still don't see him using an international spot for a CB and theres noone in Oz around.

I reckon it'd be a step back in his career if he were to come back to the Nix. It would be far more beneficial for Musa' career and potentially the All Whites in the future for Musa to be trying to get signed in England. There would be plenty of league 2 teams that would definitely consider offering Musa a contract and his agent needs to be pursuing this (assuming he has an agent which he may not). I think it's much better for his development to be playing first team football in say an English league 2 team than sitting on the bench in the a-league.

Was he not playing reserves at Hereford whom are a Conference team? Why would he go from playing Conference reserves to starting in League 2?

Not that we are going to get one, I struggle to think what type of marquee would work for Wellington.

Sydney got ADP for the large Italian population. Both Melbourne's are looking at Karagounis to attract the Greeks. Jets got an English 'legend' with big name recognition.

Marco rojas. Oh wait....

Would have to be a big name kiwi, but not too big...
