In this thread, a bunch of men far too concerned about another mans appearance. The strange ones have come out of the woodwork this off season.

Why are you asking us. With all due respect, we have no idea, right?

Edit: my bad - we seriously have no clue what we are on about. That was your words.

I may know sweet FA about football, but I do know a bit about sentence structure, and you have failed miserably with that one my friend. With all due respect.

Have you guys actually taken offence to what I said?

Not at all, just treating you with the same contempt you treated us with on your very first post. Don't let the subsequent replies to that on the page and a half that followed be any indicator of what people think of you.

Tell you what, here's a winning tip to make friends easily. On your next job change, on your first day, go into the lunch room and tell everyone they suck. See how that works out for you and how many people think you are a swell guy after day 1. With all due respect, you only get one chance to make a complete twat of yourself when making a first impression.

There is no hate. I wrote 'with all due respect'. He can't get angry about it...

Not so much offense as bemusement. Telling a bunch of people they are clueless and then proceeding to ask their opinions on the very matter you implied they were clueless about is an interesting approach.

It's actually impossible to be "too harsh" about a man wearing a cream turtle-neck sweater tucked into cream chinos while his band-mates play violins behind him perpetuating similar fashion crimes.

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of 80s music. In fact most 80s bands have one or two top tracks that at least partly redeem whatever other awfulness they might have suffered upon us. Wang Chung are not one of those bands.

Please don't populate this thread with bullshit about acne, bad 80s bands etc, I click on here in the hope of unearthing some exceptional detective work by someone revealing our next signing. i got all excited witht he prospect of reading 22 new juicy posts only to find this crap. I also apologise to similar minded people because the irony of me posting this message is not lost on me either.

Anyone in particular from Waitakere you're speculating about or is worthy of a contract Wang Chung?

There is no room for joking when it comes to Wang Chung. Anyway, don't want to get told off again so I'll say no more.

So does anyone have any speculative suggestions for our elusive defensive midfielder? Preferably you want experience and good technical and passing skills. Manny's got enough mongrel and tackling ability for 2 A-League DMs. I'd also like to see an English speaker because it's the sort of role where communication with your teammates is extra-important. Any ideas of players who fit this bill who are currently off contract and might not mind shifting to a dying city in a remote country most notable for poisoning Chinese babies?

Matt McKay still hasn't signed anywhere. McKay and another foreign midfielder would be ideal. Dream on

Has anybody heard where Richard Garcia is going? It is perhaps a bit away from the position we need, but he ticks some boxes. He was a recent Socceroo, he has good UK experience, does not affect the foreign quota, is not known for brain explosions (good team player).

Heart did not extend his contract despite Richie being a player of the season last year. I know that he is perhaps more of an attacking mid than a defensive mid (well, he runs faster than Carlos Hernandez), but he's never been much of a direct scorer. He is 31, but I rate him higher than Matt Thompson. Based on his skills, Garcia may age better and retain his skills despite being slower with time.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Well he doesn't need to be Stephen Fry or something but I think that playing as a defensive midfielder being able to communicate clearly with other players is more important than it is for say wingers or strikers, because you are in a positon to see space in front of you on both attack and defence. If your playing a distributing role it's easier to distirbute if you can clearly tell other players where to go and what you are doing.
I just was thinking that you wouldn't want a player who doesn't speak a word of English at all.
