I'm suprised that nobody mentioned the fact that the wandering  preacher from Mesopotamia was called Mani (Manny), and it was he developed Zorastian theology into it's extreme form of dualism called Manichaeism.

It's no wonder Manny looks so serious all the time, he's got some heavy stuff to think about.

God that was a LONNNNNGGG nighshift.

Payne also said there have been some preliminary discussions with the Wellington Phoenix, a New Zealand member of Australia's A-League, about keeping Jeremy Brockie. The Kiwi striker is on loan to Toronto through the end of August.

"Anything longer-term with Brockie would likely happen next year," Payne said. "They want him back for their season. But I think there's a possibility that something could happen after that. We've got a good relationship with the club. I think Brockie's really enjoyed himself here."

I honestly would not mind that. Brockie, for me at least, is not one of the most active of players and i'm really not sure how he's going to fit into ernie's new squad. Time will tell but i'd perfer getting money plus him developing into a better player in a better league than him being in and out of the nix starting line up or in the wrong position.

If nothing else it seems like Brockie is going to face real competition for his place this year. That in itself is a good thing. Hopefully he comes back from TFC ready to lift his game another notch.

At the very least he will come back match fit and battle hardened which is more than the others. Ernie would be smart to build him slow because he won't get an offseason next year either if we qualify for WC and has had stuff of one at the moment.

Fantastic news but I still want to see the other right kids trialling for spots...

Matthew Ridenton is on par with Rufer as is Browne (if he is indeed there?)

He's still running the wing at Central Utd. And coming along nicely.

If Stein plays as well as his pre-season forms suggests and we can extend his contract then I'd have no great qualms for Brockie to go the MLS. Good for him, good for the All Whites. Not great for the club but we can work around that and unless the FFA start working around international breaks we need to start loosening out first 11s dependence on All Whites as it will be harder to win the league when you have a significant portion of your best players absent for several games and with a heavy travel burden.

"Yellow Fever are fantastic – I have to say that"

I think this wont be an issue once the FFA cup starts up. As that is supposed to be played during international breaks, so the Phoenix won't be playing during those windows anyway.

So it seems Ernie is having a real problem fining his deep playmaking central defender. The world wide search has come up with nothing. He has to October to find someone.....maybe things will become easier once the European window closes at the end of August.

My suggestions...try looking in some of those smaller continental countries that don't have big budgets but produce very technically gifted players.....countries like Holland, Belgium, Croatia etc. Loads of leagues in Europe are having big financial problems...players are not getting paid and rosters have been cut. i'd imagine what we want is someone late 20's with 100+ matches at a reasonable level.

Or Ernie should have a talk to Tribulitex.....he always seem to have his finger on the pulse regarding recruits from Spain. There was one midfielder he bought out for the world Club thing. He was super talented...he just cruised through local football without making much effort. Must be a few more of his standard.

As always its a huge punt on getting the right player....its so hit and miss. Victory scounted Finkler and Bru for last year...one was great the other a dud.

Andreu Guerau. Went from City to Dinamo Tblisi ... then to Poland ... then back to Spain. (Check out previous on this thread plus ACFC thread). NZ wasn't for him.

Who is this guy and what position does he play? Has anyone seen him play? I have been to all preseason games and I dont think he's been a part of any of them?

Right & Left back. His name was linked with the FSE in the latest Stuff article, so makes me wonder if it may be a Tee Dubs contract offered and its been misreported by the club.

He hasn't played a pre-season because of injuries.

Great detective work there Ryan. That does seem to suggest he is confirmed if he comes through his groin injury ok. I put a bit of cred to it in that the Phoenix are managing his rehab. If they were not interested, they'd ship him back.

Seen him twice and Rufer twice. Ridenton was better I thought. Where was he playing for Central? I saw him for Northern Region side
