Do you really think that our backline as it stands could handle that? No offense to Dura and Siggy but they can't do it all themselves.

Also, to play with a flat 4 in midfield you generally need at least one big strong striker who's good in the air, because it's harder to feed attackers with passing through midfield. Unless we rely on Watson we don't really have the players for that either...

We got torn up through midfield with one. Hate to think what it'd be like without one.

This guy is still a free agent. What are peoples thoughts? Worth a try or not.

Undoubtably a good player but at 32 he would pick up a club anywhere in Europe on good money(by A-League standards). To give you an idea what we are up against, Olympic Marseille were looking at a 34 yo RB called Reveille to pad out their squad. He has lots of Euro experiance and a few France caps. The guy wanted 100,000+ euros..per month!!! Diarra is way way out of our league.

is it really that weird not having a DM? I mean not having a keeper would be weird

When your AM never defends a la hernadez it would be hard to work without one

So long as we maintain 95% possession we wont need a DM.

We might need a DM to keep 95% possession...

This maybe a little/very crazy sounding but what if we converted fenton to DM, from his play last season he seemed more comfortable when coming in field and he does have the eye for a pass, not overly sure on his tackling but he could play a schwinstieger role if his defense ever came into question.

again, just a crazy idea.

Fenton is already being turned into a right back. Surely another positional change won't happen. Plus he's out injured.

Agreed. That suggestion has about as much sanity as playing Moss as a striker.

I don't think this is completely without merit. He is good on the ball, makes intelligent runs, uses his body well, knows where players are around him... but lacks a bit of top end pace. He always seemed more natural as a central midfielder than a wide player to me. He did look well suited to right back when I saw him at Raumati though and you don't want to move young players around all over the place.

Bad idea.

He plays with his head down, until he learns to keep it up, hes not going to be the guy to save our DM

Agree with this and I am surprised as your summation rjmiller. Fenton has pace but plays with his head down. It was a constant criticism last year of playing with blinkers and the amount of times Ifill ripped him one ingame.

People play with their head down when they don't have confidence or control to run with the ball. It isn't the same issue before they receive the ball. And he isn't particularly quick, he isn't slow, but he isn't going to beat players with pace.

Does anyone have their finger on exactly how many players we have signed and the minimum we have to sign by when (presumably before the season kicks off) ?

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

19 on the books, need 20 before the first game. We need a RB for the first game, so probably will pick up Gulley.

What position does Brindall-South actually play? I thought he was a right back?

He is a RB but he seems very underdone after missing a lot of time with an injury in pre-season. I would rather give Gulley a run than risk him starting atm.

He would have been back playing for more than 3 weeks by now, would be at least 5 by the start of the season. I would have thought he would have been first in line.

Wasn't he fine in the game at Weka Park? Surely between now and then he's had enough training time to be ok?

Have we signed Tobias Bertsch, Tamati Williams and Joel Stevens. Must have missed this, as they've all got official 'headshots' for the coming season.

He played the first half at left back and looked to running freely.

This doesn't qualify as a signing source.......

Wasn't meaning it to be. Just interesting that they've done the official headshots for players that aren't signed. Hence my question :)

The key is not if they have had their photo. It's if they have been given a suit
