wikipedia has troy hearfield as ours.

Troy Hearfield (born October 31, 1987 in Tamworth, NSW) is an attacking football midfielder who currently plays for Wellington Phoenix in the A-League. He made the transfer on the 28 of March 2008 after a rif between his former club Newcastle Jets about his release.

good old wikip

are we supposed to add an "f" or a "t" to that "rif"?

did he and the Jets exchange a few powerchords on their Strats?

(and let's not even go near the fact that both a rift and the word "between" imply two participants)

aaarghh

He'll be a squad player at best though. I don't really think we need him tbh.

Absolutely agree going forward. The gap I think we have with the midfield is the hard-arse defensive midfielder - the role that Ross A was supposed to fill. People have mentioned Dodd as a possibility to fill this role but, for me, he is a center back not a defensive midfielder - he lacks the speed and close control ball skills for a midfielder.

The gaps we clearly have yet to fill are; RB, striker and defensive midfielder (unless Ross A can shake his injury problems).

Porter is hopefully the answer to the striker need.

Is Mulligan really the answer to the RB need - I don't know if he played against Vanuatu at the stadium but if he did he wasn't memorable. The 2 All Whites who stood out for me in that game were Lochhead and Leo B. Leo B I thought was the best player on the park that day by a mile - I'm so pleased we picked him up.

I'm sure we will fill the remaining gaps in the squad but we may have to go to plan B if Porter, Hadfield & Mulligan don't eventuate. Plan B I understand is Korean or ?? players.

Seems like Hearfield is a certainty to come to us

"Also gone from the squad are fringe striker Scott Tunbridge and attacking midfielder Troy Hearfield, who have been released.

Tunbridge has returned to his home town of Adelaide and Hearfield is set to join the Wellington Phoenix. The Jets had originally refused to release Hearfield. The matter was headed to a grievance tribunal before yesterday's decision to let him go." valeo2008-03-29 15:05:11

Mulligan did play pretty well that day but was in the centre of midfield. Scored a cracker of a free kick I think.

I think if Ricki really rated him at RB he'd probably be a signing by now.

Exactly, it'll be some Asian full back we've never heard of.

We could possibly get Killen on loan if we don't sign Porter. Or at least we possibly could have if the Celtic manager actually thought something of Australian football.

If true that's great news. Hearfield had obviously decided to move on and clearly there were problems between him and the coach - in those circumstances it's never in anyones interest to try and handcuff him to the club. He may not be a starter (initially) but he is a great aquisition for the club. I like what it says about how the Phoenix are viewed by players - talented young players want to come and play for us in front of the best supporters in the A-league.

And so they should !!

that player is mckain is it not? in all the reports i've read about him they talked about him being a holding midfielder or centre back, and played holding for soccerros, so we could see durante and dodd in the centre back with mckain infront of them

If McKain does play holding midfielder with Dodd and Durante as centre backs we are very light in injury / bench cover for all three positions which is maybe why Christie, Old and ?? will be moved on - too many midfielders not enough backs (e.g. Old out Sigmund in).

simple, re-sign johnson as mckain's cover, siggy in for old as centre cover, Lia is cover for whatever right back we end up with, Daniel can play for lochy as we have enough attacking midfield should something hapen to lochy.

He did - he hit the far post from a corner kick (!) and some of his dead ball work was OK by memory.

Another comment by the Sunday News today that Old will be released this week.

I can't find the comment on the website but it is in today's paper.

If you are a fan of Johnno why is it "sweet news" that is contact is nearly up?
This is the end of season 3 you know.

And he's contracted for season 4 whereas we thought he was only contracted to the end of v3

Seriously?

Do you just argue for the sake of arguing? We didn't know whether Johnson would be kept or be released. It's good news to hear he has anothr season in him.
