Mully wants too much cash apparently - with Ross' wages freed up I reckon we'll see Siggie, Vicelich and Porter.

Vicelich? Is there anything concrete behind that rumour or do you have a source?

Rumour bouncing around Wellington had family members looking at Real Estate.  Not sure on the truth in that.

Too right Perth Glory was using him as a ball supplier rather and he wasn't set up well by the others, either. The fans over there are going to sorely miss him.

If Leo gets going, he does an impress job on the field. I think one day someone from the EPL will pick him up. He has the speed, skill and the tricks. If he gets a chance to show his stuff in the 2010 WC, he will be on the club scout shortlist.[/]

Well the English Championship, although it is below EPL, is the sixth richest division in the world. So is richer that most top divisions on the world.

Neither Vicelich or Siggy are RB's though :(

Management have already said they may not buy a right back.

Vicelich is a great CB or DM though and Siggie can play left back, CB or in the midfield if needed.

i think we'll se lia playing at RB this season with Christie as his cover.. i'll feel a lot better about both of them playing with the solidity in our CB's now. also Porter would most likely be marquee surely if we get him?

With all the rumours of Vicilich and Siggy you still have to wonder how many CD's do we need. Where"s the specialist RB?. It was a problem last year and if we are going to convert players to this position then we may have the same problems.

Converting Lia is an option but he lacks tackling technique. Having Christie as the second option is not an option. If Lia gets injured early season....then Christie is the first choice RB. Look where that got us last time. Why is it so difficult to find a RB?

Having said that our central and midfield defense looks great!!!

I could be wrong but looking at the squad so far and the rumoured additions I'd be surprised if we played a lot of 4-4-2. It's got back 3 written all over it

Increasingly looking like a back 3. Please don't let it be so.

Could easily still play 442, it just means that either Lia, Durante or possibly Dodd will have to play Right Back.

The more I think about it the more Durante at RB makes sense to me. With McKain and either Dodd or Siggy as a central partnership we should have more than enough class in the middle, and Durante on the right will give us some serious stability on the right flank. Our defense will be pretty much impregnable with that lineup, and by playing in 442 you can make proper use of Lochy while players like Gao and Bertos won't have to worry so much about defensive responsibilities (as they would under 352).

June- China!!!

who do we have to wait until July for or is that when the league starts...?

July is the pre-season Cup start.  League is August 15th.

I'd be surprised if we get much more than match reports if they got to China.  SKY won't even show the Asian Champions League here which is already filmed, let alone pre-season matches.

"Ben probably completes our defensive signings for the upcoming season"

I guess this means we won't be seeing Mully this season.

Hopefully this comment is intended mainly for Mulligan e.g. get real with your salary expectations, we aren't that desparate.

Based on what I think are our players "first choice" positions our squad mix still looks light on outside defenders;

Defenders: (5)
#3) Tony Lochhead
#5) Karl Dodd
#??) Andrew Durante
#??) Jon McKain
#??) Ben Sigmund

Midfielders: (9)
#2) Jeremy Christie
#6) Tim Brown
#10) Michael Ferrante
#11) Daniel
#12) Richard Johnson
#??) Gao Lei Lei
#17) Vince Lia
#??) Leo Bertos
#??) Troy Hearfield

Forwards: (4)
#8) Vaughan Coveny
#9) Shane Smeltz
#19) Greg Draper
#23) Costa Barbarouses

We look fine for midfielders and, hopefully, when we sign Porter we will also be in great shape for forwards. Porter's signing would leave 2 spots left in the squad - with only 5 true defenders and only 1 (Lochhead) specialist outside back I can't see why we wouldn't sign a specialist right back. The other spot maybe being for a strong left sided player as back up for left back / left midfield.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

The right back position is a problem area for most A-League clubs, it seems.

Funny, aussies (West Islanders) are getting more american by the day. Yep they (in general) do rate themselves highly, . Allways good for a laugh. Australia is far more a state of the u.s.a. than NZ is of Aussie (or will ever be)

Reckon the Aussies would give us Tasmania if we asked nicely? They don't exactly do much with it currently and it just sits there on the map like a pimple on a saggy bum!

It would make a great base for the second NZ A-League franchise!

3x what their paying him? I very much doubt that unless their paying him peanuts

On FM it says he's on 2,000 pounds p/w. Roughly 5,000 aus $ a week x 52 = 260,000 a year. Cant see us paying him that. Its a massive chunk of the wage budget, unless he's being counted as marquee?

Also worrying that people say he's returning 'home', when NZ isnt exactly home for him.

dude tbh i think we r dreaming slightly if we think we r going to ign him under the cap, i expect marquee status for him, and why not? the chances of getting a big name who's actually worth it are so slim, i'd rather have someon elike porter, who's still got a heck of a lot of game in him.

and also, i wouldn't worry, would they separate the diff between aus and nz on that forum? they are probably going on that he's going to an 'aus' league club
