Looks like one of those guys plays in some Development league "4th in the US football piramid"

Considering Lochhead came from the 1st division i would doubt they would be up to our standard.

How did you come across them?

Mariners land exciting youth international DApuzzo
Monday, 16 June 2008

David D'Apuzzo

The Morning Bulletin / Chris Ison The Morning Bulletin

The Central Coast Mariners today welcomed highly rated Australian youth international David DApuzzo to their season four line up, with the exciting 19-year-old signing on with the reigning Hyundai A-League Premiers for one year.

DApuzzo has been on trial with the yellow and navy for much of the past month, making three non-competitive appearances and impressing in each of them on the left side of defence.

With pace in abundance, a strong work ethic, a noteworthy repute at youth level and a burgeoning reputation as a senior player, DApuzzos capture is indeed a significant coup for the Mariners, who have now welcomed four new faces to their 2008/09 line up.

DApuzzos signing also sets the scene for another sibling rivalry when the Mariners take on northern rivals the Newcastle Jets.

Jets regular Adam DApuzzo is Davids older brother, while fellow new Mariners recruit Ahmad El**ch is the senior of Newcastle young gun Tarek.

"We had identified David as a potential recruit several months ago and have been monitoring his progress in the NSW Premier League for quite some time as such, we are delighted to have come to an agreement with this exceptionally talented young player," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"We have been searching for a left-sided player to complement the likes of Adrian Caceres and Dean Heffernan and we see David as a player that can fulfill those roles and feature quite prominently throughout the season.

"David was courted by at least one other Hyundai A-League club and were thrilled that he has chosen to sign with the Mariners, where he will be given a deserved opportunity to further develop his game and prosper in a professional environment."

DApuzzo is presently with powerhouse state level club APIA Leichhardt, for whom he will complete the remainder of the current NSW Premier League season before linking with the Mariners in time for the start of the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 campaign.

While at Lambert Park with APIA Leichhardt, DApuzzo has been one of the cornerstone members of the Tigers charge earning a place as a regular starter amongst a line up laden with Hyundai A-League and National Soccer League experienced players.

DApuzzo has been capped for Australia several times at Under 17 level, including three starting appearances at the 2005 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru.

Here, DApuzzo lined up alongside fellow Hyundai A-League starlets Leigh Broxham, Nathan Burns, Robbie Kruse and Kaz Patafta and contributed a full ninety minutes to Australias sole triumph of the tournament a 2-1 win over Uruguay in the Qantas Joeys final group match.

"Im delighted to have been given the chance by the Mariners to play in the Hyundai A-League, its been a goal of mine to break into this competition since it began and I cant wait to get involved," said DApuzzo.

"Ive been in and around the Mariners for about a month now and can only say good words about the club, from the administration to the coaching staff and the players the club has a top class set up and one that is exciting to be introduced to as a player.

"With the way the team is shaping up for the new season, Im confident that we can achieve honours and push for some trophies and Ill be hoping to personally play a big part in that."

Simultaneous with DApuzzos capture, the Mariners also announced today that Ian McAndrew, who debuted with the club last season, would not be offered a new contract.

McAndrew made one substitute appearance for his hometown club over the course of the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season and was the first player to graduate to the senior Mariners line up from the clubs one of a kind Youth Academy structure.

"Ian has been a tremendous ambassador during his time with the Mariners and we thank him for his contribution to our historic third Hyundai A-League season," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"As always, we will never completely shut the door on any player and we certainly believe that Ian has the potential to develop into a fine footballer and we will monitor his future progress with great interest."

Join the Frontline of Support. Mariners Memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 season are now available for purchase from the Mariners website www.ccmariners.com.au.

According to the football bible that is FFT, he will be.
Also another player FFT likes is Robbie Cattanach, has been on Sydney's squad list and is supposedly banging them in for Manly United. Thoughts?

Wouldn't mind Cafu as a right back! Even at 37 he seems to be ever-green. Certainly better than putting Cleberson there..

Can anyone else confirm this? I've been scouring Wikipedia for released attacking midfielders from around the A-League, but at the same time I don't want to get my hopes up too much

I really don't think it will be an attacking midfielder, if anyone. Unless of course it's one Ricki thinks can play a role up front, I'm starting to wonder if we'll play with someone 'in the hole' (oo-er) behind Smeltz rather than two flat strikers.

nixinoz and KBTW are saying something similar in the Burliegh Heads match topic - not so much about the transfer but about the formation

when are we going to get a genuine striker o partner smeltz instead of more midfielders!
Permalink Permalink
almost 18 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
If it's Kwasnik he will be the partner. He'd play just off the striker, which is exactly what Smeltz needs (after the failures of his partnerships with Covs and Brownlie - too similar).

Kwas is quicker, more mobile, and can work the channels well so could have very good interplay with the others. The only question mark is over his finishing, which was lacking at times. But he's grown a lot as a player in the past few years.

------------------------Moss

Lia--------------McKain----Durante--------Lochhead

------------------------Dodd
--Bertos-----------------------------------------Gao
---------------------------------Daniel

--------------Kwasnik
--------------------------Smeltz

*If Dodd can;t play DM you have Brown or Johnno.
*If Lia can't play RB it seems like Dodd would be the go.
*Hearfield can cover the wings, or Daniel or Kwasnik

But is it Kwasnik? He's due another contract at CCM by way of games played.

Haha, we came to that conclusion about 3 weeks ago

He's an average player at best and not really what we are looking for - a goal scorer. I'd rather use Costa.

Funnily enough he always played his best games v us.

for 1 we don't exactly need a strike partner persay for smeltz, with enough attacking midfielders we inevitably have osmeone up there with him always, its not the be all and end all if he doesnt have a designated partner

and 2, as jaza pointed out, if it is kwasnic he would play off smeltz

If it is Kwasnik his stats look useful (goals scored). If he can chip in with 5 or 6 then I'd be more than happy with him running off Smeltz. I guess we will be playing 4-4-1-1. Something like;
Moss          Lia, Durante, Dodd, Lochhead     Bertos, McCain, Daniel, Gao     Kwasnik     Smeltz   looks a pretty competitive starting 11 to me.  I think we are still short a geniune striker (if Smeltz gets injured) and a specialist wing back but you'd have to be happy with the way the squad is coming together - especially with Brown, Costa, Herfield and .... to come off the bench.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

whity u completely left off ferrante, and i think he will be one of our main playmakers this season, and certainly starting most games, and if smeltz gets injured then coveny will be cover if we get kwasnik, if we sign him then our depth is complete. simple
