I think we should take a real look at Krishna, we probably wouldn't have to pay him too much to see if the experiment worked, I think it would be a good gamble and looking how our last experiment with Auckland City went I think its a risk worth taking.wellyphoenixfan2008-11-22 20:26:54

Look there is a new squad rightt here, Greek boi, start youtubing themyes?

Olivier Bernard, Ian Harte and Sander Westerveld

How the hell is Bernard without a club since 2007 ? He must be holding out for some delusionally expensive contract. Sander was pretty good at one point for Liverpool and then sort of lost it. He would p*ss on most A league goalies though.

Sorry if going off topic.

dunno if this has been mentioned from the qld forum

FORMER Everton and Manchester City striker Michael Branch will trial with the Queensland Roar this week hoping his Australian sea change can produce a wave of goals.

The 30-year-old will train with the Roar on Tuesday and Thursday in a bid to bolster Queensland's potency in front of goal for the second half of the A-League season and finish his 12-year professional career on a high.

Liverpool-born Branch made his English Premier League debut for the Toffees in February 1996 against Manchester United.

He was a regular in the first team throughout the 1996-97 EPL season but fell out of favour at Goodison Park and was loaned to Manchester City, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers over the next five years.

The father-of-three played for a number of lower-division clubs in England until last year and recently moved his family to the Gold Coast.

Branch opted to move Down Under instead of Spain after discussions with Roar skipper Craig Moore and former Wolves teammate and current Melbourne captain Kevin Muscat.

He would be happy to introduce himself to the wider Australian football community by breaking Queensland's scoring drought at Suncorp Stadium, where the Roar have failed to find the net in their past three games.

"I'm a forward or right wing so hopefully I can help the side score a few goals," Branch said.

"At the moment the Roar are doing well away and hopefully I can help at home.

"I know a couple of the Roar players down here like Craig Moore and Charlie Miller, and Kevin (Muscat) has told me all about the A-League so I decided to give it a crack.

"Myself and the family thought about having a change and heading to Spain but we love it here on the Gold Coast and we'd love to stick around for a bit longer so it would be great if I can get a game or two with the Roar.

"I've only got a couple of years of playing left in me before I get into the coaching side of things so I thought I may as well try to get a game down here while I still can and maybe score a few goals while I'm at it."

The fifth-placed Roar have scored 13 goals in 11 games, the third-lowest return in the league.

Striker Serginho Van Dijk is under pressure to score his first goal in general play and Farina is considering playing a three-pronged attack.

guys what are we doing when Smeltzy leaves us? who's gonna score a truck load of goals for us? Coveny? I reckon he'll still be fit to play next year but isn't as good as Smeltz. Costa? I'm willing to try, but do you think he's the kind of guy who could score 10+games in one campaign?

Porter? Yeah why not, if he doesn't go to Aus.
Hmm am a bit worried

There are 9 months and thousands of players coming off contract worldwide.  We have only one of our import spots used, players moving on who will open up space under the cap and an owner who is not afraid to pay money for Fred to come for 6 games.

Let's worry about it if we get to a fortnight before the season starts and we have no one.  Just from the obvious names out there a Porter and Killen combination sounds good and that is without any imports... wonder if Luis Coralles would count as an import ?

Jason Spagnuolo has been released from Adelaide after lack of game time. What do you guys think about him as a player?

Burst onto the scene in his first season but hasn't done anything since then. Apparently Melbourne are targetting him - they have got the best out of Celeski so maybe they can do the same for him.

According to the Sydney forum, Celeski's contract expires end of this season. We should consider him

He'll probably re-sign with Melbourne.

He's a decent player but we dont need another attacking midfielder.

Jan Koller is 35 and more than up to it.  I'm sure we could get him away from FC Krylia Sovetov Samara for the next season on a one year loan (by I'm sure I mean so very unlikely but worth a shot).  Unlikely though it would be getting Nuno Gomes from Benfica would be amazing or Kluivert from Lille.

Yes, because 35yo former greats as marquees has worked for so many A-League clubs... and it gives us such an excellent solution for the years afterwards...

Every marquee is different and I'm pretty sure most would agree that Koller would be a success.

He's 35, by the time next season starts will be 36, has never lived in New Zealand, let alone Wellington and is playing in the lower level in Europe.

No way would I agree he would be a success or come close to advocating trying it.

Transfer specualtion does not mean random names you pull out your a-hole.  It is to discuss somewhat crediable rumors
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
I don't think it is at all likely but I still think he'd do fine.  Bear in mind the top Russian division is miles ahead of the A-league and if he can live in Russia with its conditions he could easily live in Wellington.

And there's nothing wrong with tossing round a few ideas, especially when there don't appear to be many others.

Big risk of missing most of the season with injury with these guys as well and the fact that they are only in it for the money, The Marquees so far have been pretty hit and miss Yorke was good but is John Alosi worth that much more than Smeltz?
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
I'd go for Smeltz ahead of Aloisi any day (so no).
