true re payout (i had the word "possible" in my post to almost cover that)

agreed that's a few CBs - would we still get Siggy if we have McKain?

and will Old stay?

McKain sounds a good age and a reasonable player from the wikip entry

You'd hope we'd sign Siggy.  He's an AW's centre back and he needs to be playing at a 'higher' level than the NZFC (the quote marks are for Teds benefit)

Here is a link to an article on McKain, including a photo, from 2005:

The guy seems to have vanished not long after this was written.  According to the FC Politehnica team list he isn't in the current first team, or the second team - and isn't listed as being released either.  I figure that means he is still at the club, but way down in the pecking order.

You have to be careful with the Romanian sides.  It could be that they owed him money and cut him without paying it.  There is a long history of problems with Aus players (and NZ players) there.  Mossy has tales to tell.

The same paper linked McKain to the clogs about 3 weeks ago as well, so take it with a grain of salt.

They are reporting in the paper here in melbourne that the Victory has signed signing Pondlejak from ccm. He's pretty old i reckon.

If we have Durante and Dodd( who still has a year left on his Phoenix contract) plus possibly McKain then our central defense is already looking light years better than last season.

I think Old and Rees might as well pack their bags if the rumours are true.

Its going to be an exciting few weeks to see who else might be coming on board.

damb he looks good and can paly defensive midfielder which i think we need in the team so durante and dodd in the middle maybe sigmund with lockhead and a natural right back with mckain in front of them or...

hope we sign mckain, siggy, durante and keep hold of dodd. We should ditch old and rees and also pick up a couple right backs and a genuine striker. Midfielders may be required as well depending on aloisi and johnson keeping fit for next year.

Former Manchester United and England striker Andy Cole has been questioned by police after an alleged attack on his wife.

Cole, who is currently on loan to Burnley from Sunderland, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning at his home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

Cheshire police said they arrested a man aged 36 on suspicion of assault.

A spokesman said: "He was interviewed and released on bail until April pending further inquiries."

Cole, who was born in Nottingham, married his long-term girlfriend Shirley Dewar at St Bartholomew's Church, in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in July 2002.

He scored nearly 200 goals in successful spells with Newcastle and Manchester United between 1995 and 2001 and has also played for Blackburn, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Birmingham.

Did Ricki visit him in the slammer? :D

Sigmund should be a backup to start with. I don't really want to rely on a player straight from the NZFC. I would feel comfortable with Dodd, Dodd, McKain, Sigmund and doesn't Durante also play right back?

Would love to see Jay-Jay Okocha if he's still playing? Last I heard he was at Hull?
I think he would be a better version of both Juninho and Corica from Sydney.

it's taken him a while to get back to match fitness and even now he hasn't completed a game as far as i know, but he is delivering some good balls into players, looks very assured with the ball at his feet (from an 11 min match highlights clip) and has a hell of a throw-in

some City fans are still sceptical, he costs a lot in wages!, but he's a cut above Michael Bridges

Simon Elliott?

Wishful thinking maybe, but it would make sense to sign Chris Killen as the ""European signature"".

His linking up with Smeltz, and Bertos forming the triangle, would cause serious problems for any opposition - furthermore we would see a flood of goals.

But if he was Marquee.... Nah can't see it.

that would be all good...then Mckain might be a more of a midfield role...

who is rumoured to be the new playmaker option in the attacking midfield/ss type of position?
or is it COSTA every game?

cos..we are looking a little bit thin there maybe...
