More than likely injured most of the season? So he had a string of unlucky injuries, that doesn't mean that he is going to be injured for most of this season. Thats just negetive thinking

Did he say anything about lack of game time? I'd be increasingly frustrated if I were him. Hell I get frustrated when I'm on the sideline on a saturday afternoon.

Sorry to all Draper-lovers, but I think that Draper should not be re-signed. He is just taking up a squad place and a place in the salary cap. He hasnt had any game time this whole season FFS

What? he is a youth therefore wil be virtually taking up nothing in the cap.

Still. We should get a youth who will at least get some game time in one season. Unless Draper was injured, then he must have just been performing badly. He's taking up valuable space.

Yes agreed we should sign Peverly for next season. He could start as having two youth players in the same position just doesn't work for us.

Didn't bring up his lack of gametime as I didn't know if he'd be unhappy with me talking about it.  And people mention he didn't get any gametime this season, but that, in my opinion, is the fault of Ricki.  I rate Draper above Costa but Costa got 3 or 4 appearances.

Also if we get a youth team Draper will be perfect for it.

No he's not taking up valuable space. If it really was a problem they could make him U23 Marquee and then it wouldn't matter.

Best news I've heard all day (haven't heard much good news today). If we let Drapes go/he doesn't re-sign, we're in the unenviable task of having to find two more youth player next season. And if we don't get that youth team we so desperately want and need, I can't see too many quality youth players from Aus lining up to join us ahead of the other 9 teams, where they can get actual game time.  Even if we did sign Pevs, we'd still need another youth player.

Not against him personally at all. Just thinking that we might be able to get another youth who offers more to the first team. Full Stop. If he had gametime and played sufficiently I would be all for his re-signing.

Each to their own I suppose. I'm not sure what the story has been with him this season, but I have to say from what I saw of him pre-seson for the under 23s against Chile, I thought he might have got some more game time, and is probably wrth retaining. Besides which, he scored a few goals against NZFC sides (admitedly so did Kwas and Mulligan, but hey, Drapes got more), and he obviously  impressed Stu Jacobs enought to go to Beijing when Pelter pulled out.

So there we go, both sides of the argument Feel free to join our side of the argument

Halswell. I am currently in the Pres B comp though cause I can only play every 2nd week for a good chunk of the season. (Just in case Tony P is looking, I rate myself at RB although I guess everybody would have a similar story ).

I think Draper should be resigned

My reasoning is that we have invested 2 years of time, money, salary and resources to make him a better player and we have no idea what the kid can do because we haven't seen him. To not resign him would be basically saying 'you've peaked, you can't go any further' and without game time to prove that, thats a very hard statement to justify. If the nix release him, I doubt he would end up at another A League club.

He is a youth player, he is a project and he is not an expensive commodity (I'm guessing) in terms of cap hold. If he was 35, sure, scrap it, but the lad is 20. Keep perserving since he has had 2 years exposure to the nix where as a new youth player, you'd have to start over again in terms of molding him. He is also basically the 23rd squad player so why ditch him to bring in another kid whom would most likely be the 23rd player....

I'd like to see Kwasnik and Plodder kept too. Kwasi had hardly any game time to show his abilitiy with Smeltz in such fine form. Form which I hope deserts him next season when he plays against us!

Christie came back into contention and did a decent job at closing the opposition down with the 20 to go.

With Covs, Smeltz, Moss and Gao gone and one signing already, it could be an interesting summer.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Fully agree on re-signing Poldder, the guy is versatile, and I feel far too valuable a squad player to let go. Kwas... I'm not too sure about, we have a fair few attacking midfielders now Costa is coming good, and throw Diego and maybe Fred in there, I feel we can afford to let Kwas go, and open up his spot for a real striker.

good points on Kwas, in particular the last part, he was bought to cover Smeltz, but we found out pretty quick that he's rubbish through the middle.
You know we belong together...

I disagree on Plodder, I think we should only sign players that could make the starting team. PLayers I want brought in for this season are:
2 Strikers
1 LB to push Lochhead
1 AM if it is good e.g Fred
1 CB Most likely Dodd.
1 Wide player.

2 of these would be youth aswell.

Defensive midfielder or Centre Back.

Can't see Fred as an option, DC would be mad to release him and that is the only way he would be available.
