We have had bad luck in the past. There have been heaps of games in the past when Phoenix should have won, but have been denied late, but thats they way it goes I guess.

Was the crowd really low for a reason?

There were comments from Members on fourfourtwo saying they didn't go because of the heat and the complete lack of shade and shelter at EnergyAustralia stadium.  Hot as a furnace. Bit of irony given the 'energy' that staduim is named after.

Apparently the wind made you feel hotter.  It was about 40 degrees at kick off.

And aussies never seem to want to watch NZ teams as much as other aussie ones - same for Warriors and the Breakers.

The commentators were talking about how ricki should take Daniel to the World Cup, and again getting discussed on Radio Sport.

I am sure i have read it on here, he is not eligible, came before FIFA changed the rules from 5 yeras to 2 or something along those lines. Can someone confirm?

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Daniel is not eligible for the All Whites until 2012.

They blamed the heat. Funny how kiwi's use the cold as an excuse not to turn up and the Aussies don't turn up because its too hot!!! I know what conditions I'd rather watch sport in.
4239 was a pretty poor crowd though. The Squadron still made a bit of noise. Wasn't too pleased with their version of "Oh Wellington..." which went along the lines of "Oh Wellington, is full of sh*t..."

I couldn't see why not, it's not like NZ has the greatest pool of talent to be picky from.

It would give Ricki some choice in tactical subs, considering he's talking about keeping the 3-4-3 going forward.

Our problem is more the fact we are lacking a natural right-back player, so I hope someone is grooming right-backs at age group level!

Well I certainly hope they're not 'grooming' age group players Would be nice to see some quality RB's coming through though.

Hmm, comments about Diego's mo  and associated profession, grooming age group players, coming through right backs...  might just give the next home game a miss!

Daniel definitely would be there if available - there are two positions we are lacking if you take a typical 4-4-2 setup, a right fullback and a left wing.

I liked this from the Sydney forum:

"It's great that Neil Young and James Brown play in our league. All we need is Kurt Cobain, Ian Curtis and Thom Yorke and we are done".

But in the formation we played in the qualifier he wouldn't have made it. Probably on the bench I'd say.

Daniel will be 32 by the time he's available and we have that U17 side maturing, Marco, Costa, the likes of Henderson and Keat coming out of US Colleges.  Could be a completely different looking side in three years time.

Yeah, now he might make the bench. But when he is eligible I don't think he will make the squad unless he gets better with age.

I've heard Diego is becoming a citizen or something. Not sure about wanting to play for the All Whites. Hey, who wouldn't!? I think he'll struggle to get in our team anyway unless he lifts his game.

Well becoming a New Zealand Citizen would mean only being eligable for New Zealand? Like Daniel and i mean what footballer doesnt want to play international football.... but maybe he doesnt and yeah he would need to up his game

I don't think Diego would make the All Whites. Maybe as cover, but no way starting.

Impressed with the amount of completed passes along the ground as well as decent crosses. Miles away from some of the ping pong we saw in the first two seasons.

I think we have a very well organized defence. Siggy was simply quite outstanding.  A far cry from earlier years.

Umm... Is it just me or should Greenacre be a better player than what he is?

One of my favourite parts of the game was the commentary, don't know who they were - australians. One of them seems to have a soft spot for the Phoenix I've noticed though.

I liked it when that guy told the other guy off for calling the Phoenix the "Kiwi's" almost the entire game - then the commentary went quiet for about a minute or so.

Simon Hill was on I think - he sounded English - pronounced Newcastle almost like it should be (short "a" as in the German Kassel").

Jeez, plenty of weather excuses in the A-League. One minute it's too hot, next it's too cold, too windy, raining etc etc...HARDEN UP people who don't go because of the weather!!!
