As this is the 'xmas' match for the Nix, I assume everyone will be donning some appropriate regalia to mark the occasion (as in the past)?

Was thinking that, I shall dig out my Santa hat.

I was encouraged by the santa hat worn by the Nix bird on the poster in the shop window.

I was going to wear my Santa hat in Palmy as that's closer to the date, however....
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

So the Sydney match in Palmy is not considered Christmas match?

Either way I am sure there will be people there with Santa hats on.

Wow you guys are too fast for us.

Things coming up for the December 4th game vs Malben Victreeeeee:

1. Joint Phoenix-Fever ticket sales drive called "We Want Ten".
2. Black and yellow Santa hats for the day.
3. Fever "Convert a Pal" discount ticket scheme whereby if you bring a newby to the Nix we'll sell them a cheap ticket.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I like Black and Yellow Santa hats.

Question:
How do you know if they are a newby ?
People could just say they are for the cheap ticket.

yeah thats what I was thinking too. I'm aiming to get a group of 20 + to the Melbourne game. Atleast half will be non regulars

Good question.

You will have to convince either me, News or Greenie that your friend is a newb.  And you will only be able to get these tickets from us at the Backbencher before the game.

We reckon you guys know better than to pull a swifty though.  I mean we're all supporters of the club so you'd be a bit of a dick if you ripped off this little scheme.

The challenge is to get those newbies along.  We'll help by getting them a cheap ticket to their first game.  Embrace the challenge.

Hampton I know you're a scammer so you won't be getting any.

Definitely wouldn't scam you, but some people would.

Maybe.

Worth the risk.

Start lining up those friends you've got (if any) who have never been to a game before.

I've got plenty, they think the Phoenix are sh*t though so it might still be tough even with the cheap ticket on offer. Might entice my Dad or bro to go to a game though.

I've also got plenty who love the Phoenix.

The 'sh*t' group have been a bit quiet in wake of our decent form of late.

Cool.  I can use that in the sales pitch to the wife.  "....and if I go to the game I'll get a free/cheap Santa hat...". Nice work lads.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Sweet, I might bring the girlfriend if I can get her in cheap, she has never been to a game, do we have to be a season ticket holder to get in on the deal? I just buy my tickets pre game

Flatmate could be a goer too

Get them along just don't mention the price! That's what my friends will be getting. Good effort we need a decent crowd for this one, pump the boys up.

I think the club is really short sighted in this.  They believe they have a "compelling value proposition" or some such bollocks.  Clearly only 7.5k of Wellington agree with them.

They have been turned off the idea of doing discounted tickets because the last time they offered that to everyone and halved their revenue (surprise surprise).

What we were proposing to them is:

1. Members (not everyone) get access to no more than two discounted (not free) match day tickets for friends.

2. The last three Wellington home games be offered as a ticket package for $50 or $60.

Initially they were keen, but after discussions internally they changed their mind.  Apparently a few ads on Classic Hits and a One Shot for Glory flag give away is going to do it.

We'll see.

Shame about the ticket prices it would have been a great chance to get some 50/50 people on board after the all whites wn.

Even $20 tickets would be decent.

I could have got a couple of mates along.

Making them part with more than a $20 note is a lot more challenging.

You'd hope that after they came once they'd be hooked.  Even if only 50% of them get hooked it's new faces.

Yeah pretty short sighted..

AW was the best advertising the nix could have dreamt for.  They should jump on the bandwagon and try and get some of the people back through the gate with some promotion.

Giving them old one shot for glory merchandise wont do it.

Good rant Smithy, the club have a limited window to bask in some reflected glory and don't seem keen to grab it with both hands. Very disappointing. Hopefully they will come up with some new stuff to work with

You would hope/think so - but we have had greater than 10k supporters at games a few times in the past, and for the most part, only the 6.5k ish core ever seem to come back the week after.

That said, have we ever had 10k+ people and actually won?

the old crowd numbers conundrum - in the past when talking about how to get more numbers to the ROF the overwhelming response has been "win" - well the lads are doing that now (well draw) but they are coming off a win, hopefully another against Roar his week , so they are keeping their side of the bargain. Agree, club have an excellent opportunity to build from the Al Whites momentum - and apart from the fans from outside of Wellington that went to the All Whites game, surely those from Wlgtn would have enjoyed themselves enough to attend a Phoenix game.
