Can you imagine how many draws we could of converted to wins if we had played hard attacking football for 90mins! Come on nics. If this is ricki's game plan then you can imagine what the scores will be when AW's play in the world cup!! Come on ricki!! get it sorted. start showing some muscle and lead the nics to the playoffs and further with positive attacking football.

Is this Costa who tracked back and won the ball in midfield that led to the goal, yeah, get rid of him allright...jeezo!!!

Saw the goal coming about 20 mins before it happened, yet we did nothing to try and turn the tide as they were gettign more and more of the ball, should have had McKain into that midfield about 10 mins earlier than he was as, even with 10 men, they were over running us and we couldnt win or hold on to the ball.  Having Ifill, Costa, Daniel and Leo sitting forward at that stage wasn't working as we just didn't have the ball to give them!

Thought Hearfield was superb as an attacking fullback, Lochhead did well, Lia was tidy, Sigmund had a great first half, Ifill was off the boil and we lose his main impact when he is stuck up as the centre forward and doesn't drop deep or pull wide.  We missed Greenacre.

Frustrated beyond belief tonight, we stopped even doing the basics well as the game developed, and we failed again to kill off a team, 2 points thrown away tonight, I need some bourbon now...

Fair do's!  Greenacre would be first on my teamsheet every week, we missed him today, helps keep the shape up front and works bloody hard when attacking and defending from the front too.

Well..back from match....new we were up against it without Greenie and it showed his value at games end.  We had so much possession and played well in first half with caceras spraying it all over..went downhill after he left.  Shld have subbed Daniel and to hell with sentiment.  Devoid of ideas in the main apart from wingback overlaps and high crosses..oh for a low hard cross again.

MV wanted it more in the second half and it showed....a poor performance given the amped up crowd after the sending off and the electric first half.

Shame oh dear...

It was a damned good first half that's true. We were too nervous that last bit. Hacking it down field.

Damn ticket guy didn't put me and few mates in the fever, didn't notice till we got to the gates, we were in aisle 32 hahaha.

Ahh well. Was frustrated at the Phoenix attack, so many opportunities just shut down by Melbourne. Couldn't see how we conceded a goal, I zoned out because of the absent noise from Yellow Fever, it breaks my heart.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Didn;t understand why Caceras went off as he had a lot of the ball at that stage and kept possession well, especially compared to Daniel or Leo at that stage of the game!

Question- How can you get another another 1800 people to the ROF???

Answer -  Winning
Permalink Permalink

I agree, I thought Caceras was playing really well. Not sure why ricki would do that. Infact I dont know why ricki subs a player with less then 10minutes to play. Why? it takes a little while for a player to get into the game.

The crowd was more like 8192 rather than the 8200 stated, a-league being a bit generous with that one.

Still I mean the best advertising was those fellas on the bank of the basin with all the yellow fever gear and then the commentators started talking football because theres not much to say when 11 guys cant make 100 runs combined

I thought the McKain for Daniel substitute was silly. We lost so much attacking flare and imo Mckain did nothing. He was slow and lazed around we needing Daniel to keep attacking so we didn't end up PARKING THE f**kING BUS in the last 10 minutes.

McKain for Daneil should have happend 10 mins early when we couldn't get hold of the ball in mdfield, no point in having Daniel on the pitch when we don't have the ball / can't win it back in midfield.

Valid point, I'm just gutted.

If ever there was a time to stand up and start winning, it was against brisbane.

We need to start proving the critics wrong and win. We need to show the administrators that we deserve a 10yr licence.

We need to prove to the country that football is worth investing in etc..etc..we took a huge step forward on Nov 14. and 3 steps back when losing to brisbane and todays average effort.

Expexct more of teh same I guess ig Hearfield has to stay RB for next 2 games...we lose that second half injection from him attacking..although he did very well at times given the space of 10 v 11.  He gave  one player a serve for not pushing up..

My harsh and grumpy assessment;

+ves; I thought Herfield was outstanding - he defended well and was very dangerous going forward - he has the pace, skill and CONFIDENCE to take on and beat a player. I also thought Lochhead had his best game of the season - also went forward well at every opportunity. Brown - to be honest I think he is an only adequate player however he has the very redeeming feature of getting in to scoring positions and putting a few away.

-ves; We simply don't know how to put games away - it was all too familiar and predictable - last 10 minutes we lose our shape, get stretched, caught on the counter and insist on playing around with the ball in the red zone. Set pieces - I know we must practice corners and free kicks but we really don't look dangerous from either.

I still think we can and will make the playoffs but we are struggling to win because; we failed to sign a good 2nd striker (Costa's not the answer), we are still short a creative playmaker (Diego's not the answer) and we need a very good defensive midfielder (Lia's not up to it). The last item on my recruitment wish list is a player who is dangerous, in the air, from set pieces.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

To many varied "we"s in their for me...footbal is stil on a high ex AWs and Nix will bear dividends as well. MV are a good team..even with 10.
