Eh? Would that be Joe Hearfield, who didn't get sent off last night?Jag2009-01-12 21:54:00

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Daniel doesn't deserve a start. If all our injured players aren't ready for next week, I reckon Plodder should get a start. Dead serious.

Yes he does
Based on what?

Based on the fact that I love watching him take the piss

Tough game to call....Adelaide must be shagged by the time Sunday comes around...5 games in 2 weeks. They are a quality side full of good players. But their away record is not great. The Phoenix have a good home record.
TV said Durante is out definite....so Siggy a straight swap if he is fit. Kwasniks hammy is 50/50 so I guess Daniel gets Hearfields spot by default. Which means Costa gets the bench.
We could win this...trouble is smeltz is now so heavily marked you wonder where the goals are gonna come from. If we do win and CCM lose then its all on the last round!

True about Smeltz being heavily marked. People were getting stuck into him in the match thread but he was actually very well contained by the Sydney defence. When he's constantly getting forced wide like he was last night you know he's struggling to make an impression.

But he is a better finisher then Bertos I know that from the many goals he has scored at age-group levels.

Hearfield and Daniel are bloody good finishers and we don't call them strikers, and based on his Wikipedia page (I think HN as the more reliable stats), Costa has only scored twice in 41 games for TeeDubs
You know we belong together...

Don't care who plays as long as we win! In regards to Dodd, if he hasn't re-signed, anyone know where he's going?

Also, excuse my ignorance, but who do CCM have in the last couple of games?

The reverse of us! CCM play Melbourne away this week and Adelaide at home in the last game. Jag2009-01-13 12:54:08

Ohkay, so they have it quite hard too! Thats pretty interesting. Vamos Phoenix! Then lets beat Adelaide and fire them up for their last game of the season so they hammer CCM!

I'd go for
Moss, Manny, Siggy, Dodd, Lochky
Leo,McKain, Brown, Daniel
Covs, Smeltzy

Covs to take the pressure off Smeltzy, cos Covs always gives the defenders a run for their money, and having two wingers to feed the balls in

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

yea i actually think covs should get  a go considering he has got speed and for all we know it could be his last game at home

do we have any other left backs as lochhead has been crap this season, against sydney the number of times he was out of position was a joke and had to rely on the centre backs covering for him, his passing is shocking and also his crossing, he just doesn't look interested, wonder why gareth southgate sent him back after 3 days, so do we have any other left backs!!!

Muscat, Siggy and Daniel can all play there (in theory).

Though Daniel is a Brazilian...

Tony is our best option there by a mile.

Good point on the finishing but look at how many goals he scored at the Under-17 world cup qualifying (I think thats the right tournament).

I hope costa will start. look what the youngsters have done for other teams. hey have nothing to lose really?! I'd also ike draper on the bench.

agreed about lochy. sh*te this season but do we have anyone else to play there that would be better? not really.

Daniel to start

because - el grap and News - he's is one of the few players in our side who can trouble defences with a well-placed first-time pass

Costa on the bench - against tired players he will force errors (in the same way that we have recently discovered hearfield can - hopefully costa will manage his 'aggression' better)

Don't be too harsh on the boy. Let's not forget that he has been sidelined by injury AND by Ricky choosing Hearfield over him a number of times.

It is normal that he struggles to find the rythm of the game now. He started with the Jets and had a decent game, remember?

Plus he's a player who can rise to the occasion, and what better occasion than this is there???

Based on??? Pure speculation. You could say the same thing about putting Paston on in the outfield.
We no real proof, thats very speculative

His opportunities have been very limited. Looking back over the course of the season I can remember many a drab, uncreative, unproductive performance from those used in Daniel's place. Let's face it , flair is something we have been sorely missing.

Maybe, just maybe if Ricki had persevered with Daniel as he has some other obvious under-achievers we would be reaping the rewards by now.

We saw what consistant gametime did for Hearfield. imo he was average until he got a good run of games.

Yip, I think a lot of players need a run of games to get going, and then they're to their best. When you dont have match fitness it can become hard to keep up with the play and therefore play well.

Daniel is one the few players we've got who has got some flair. I have been very disappointed in him this season (even against Waitakere!) but, as people have said, he hasn't had much game time. Expecting him to come on with 15 minutes to go and win games all by himself was asking a bit much. I'm sure if had he been in the starting line-up every week then we'd have seen a lot more of the 'old' Daniel this season.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Kwasnik has been extremely average (verging on rubbish) every time I've seen him play in Phoenix colours. Daniel definitely deserves a start ahead of him, even if he's not at his best at the moment.

Daniel hasn't been class since Round 6 last season. We're looking at his past performances with rose-tinted glasses.
He was doing well while he had Felipe playing alongside him, after Felipe went AWOL ar that game in Brizzy Daniel's effectiveness dropped considerably. Then he lost his starting place late last season IIRC.

It's impressive to a point, but I think Daniel is clearly taking the whole Kiwi citizenship thing a bit too far... is he dreaming of soggy Saturday arvo's 'playing' at bishop Park or something?

We need his footballing self to realise it must stay Brazilian!!! (now).
