but i don't see why Ricki was going to settle for the 1-0 ??????????????????????????

he took off Troy for Manny.

instead of saying "right, we need to bang in another" and bring on Chen.

we were piss poor.

losses? you mean draws - both against the Fury.

Not sure about waking up. i saw some very tired looking players in the last part of the 2nd half. I think they were pretty spent although their goal did give them a bit more "desperation" energy.

Shame the Jiang didn't come on earlier. Seemed to provide a bit of much needed pace in the last 10 mins.

I think that in most games this season we have deserved to win so the draws didn't really bother me too much because I figured it would click one day. Unfortunately we seem to be regressing instead of moving forward.

Half our team played the game of their lives in 30-odd degrees of heat just last week, have had to travel to the other side of the world and back and now turn out in 25 degrees tonight. Is it any wonder we ran out of legs in the 2nd half?

I'm pissed off we couldn't hold on for the win but we could easily have lost that game.

So some players took part in a 0-0 draw 7 days ago and they are still too tired?

Come on man, players do this around the world ALL the time. They are professional footballers who should be more than able to play 2 games in a week, no matter where the game was!

Nah Steve-O they don't, not with the time zone difference and half the squad not training together.

Still a crap second half.  Lacked composure under pressure, back to the long ball.

Seemed a lot of body checking and pushing out there.  Doesn't help our style of game.

It's not just about being a 'professional footballer', it's also about the human body's limits of endurance when playing in extreme conditions, while travelling across time lines and having interupted sleep patterns. If one or maybe two players in your team have had condtions that rigorous than they can probably be covered but if it's five it is going to become a problem.

I wouldn't expect any of the AWs in the Nix to claim that as an excuse for a less than stellar 2nd half performance but it was pretty apparent to me that Bertos, Brown, Lochead, etc were out on their feet by about the 70 minute mark.

1-0. I said 15 minutes into the second half that one goal wasn't enough and sadly I was right... again.

Yes they do.

Scotland played in Japan on Wednesday night - all of those players are expected to be playing with their clubs today.

The international break is NO excuse.

Footballers go away and play internationals, it happens. Having a week in between games is more than enough.

Players shouldn't make excuses but I believe it's permissable for fans to, especially if the evidence is as glaringly obvious as tonight's.

Or perhaps I'm wasting my time and I should be bitching, whingeing, whining and wittering about the coach and his tactics.

Would maybe be more productive than blaming a game that took place 7 days ago.

And how many of those scottish clubs will need to start 5 of those internationals?  Was it 30C in Japan and near 40C equivalent allowing for humidity?  Plus the coach travelling?  Plus only three subs bench allowed?    And a squad size as small as the Phoenix?  Plus the opposition has no players affected?  It has to be a factor.

Who couldn't see that coming after Ifill missed that header, though? To be honest ,we should have lost. They had 4 or 5 clear 1on1's.
I think that we start with Chen to extend his
fitness out a bit and have Greenache on the bench to sweat a
bit.
Chen looked buggered after 5 mins. I'm not the hugest fan of Greenacre but he does a sh*tload of work pressuring the opposition and because our midfield disappears so often that is crucial.

Yes I know, but really we just need to give Chen a bit of gametime to increase his match fitness. It would be nice for Greenache to just sit down for a tick and watch how the game progress. It's not as tho he is getting much ball at feet in the first 20 minutes. Have Greenache come on after 20 minutes when Chen gets tired and the intensity will shift.

I just have a feeling that with Carece replacing Daniel in the Midfield, the ball might reach Chen first because of his different running pattern may naturally suit that link. When Greenache come on, Carece will tempo up his creative game by then and the defenders have to readjust for Greenache and it will open up for Carece, Ifill and even Greenache to open a goal chance. This present a better chance for a few goals, then much later in the game. Bertos will also have a different person to target and make him more aware of making the passes rather than shooting himself.AllWhitebelievr2009-10-18 01:37:12

Having seen both Chen and Caceras play I think you are making assumptions of quality that have yet to be proven.

How's my driving? - Whine here

There was a few links in the manawatu game . . . . But more importantly, there is a need to have a shift in our game plan to open up a few unlikely gaps after Chen is replaced rather than before Greenache comes on. If a link between Chen and Caceras comes out. . . then it is actually a bonus. But it is something to explore, I feel.AllWhitebelievr2009-10-18 01:42:35

I am certain that Ricki wanted a second goal, the players were the ones who sat back, if it was planned there would have been at least a semblence of organisation.

He was shown trying to get the team to push further forward quite animatedly (is that a word) late in the 1st half.  I'm sure the plan isn't to sit back.

I don't think that Ricki has really settled for 1-0 . It must be a pain for him that team yet again are not able to get a second goal in a game. We really need to improve on our Goal for and the overall Goal Difference in the table.

Yeah, that was when it turn to mustard. Not really look forward to the next without him but I hope that Carecea is really to step up for the whole game.

I've already written my blog for FFT, and I don't want to give to much away, but I think that the problems are entirely related to handling pressure.
