is anybody else sick of bertos's mentaility of always trying to take on a player and losing it every time as a consequence aswell as his shocking deliveries from corners and free kicks. good win but we need to sink our penalties and some of our finishing was deplorable but im stilll happy with the 3.

Hard to please some people . Their keeper made a string of stunning saves, you cannot fault finishing so much as they were all brilliant stops, and we got 3! How can you be mr negative after that?

But having said that, yeah Bertos seems to feel as though he has to do it all on his own for some reason. Has been getting slightly annoying.
dont get me wrong im very pleased but id just hate to say in a tighter match where we coldn't finish some of our chances for example i believe when i think it was ifil muffed a shot and costa messed the follow up. i just hope to see more clinical finishing against tougher opposition in the future

Bertos was trying to do too much just in the wrong positions. He set up Ifill for a goal in the 15 minutes he was on, so not bad. I think he would have done better than Daniel did today. Though Daniel did have a couple of good crosses in the second half.

Bit tough on Daniel there. Just about every cross, free kick and corner he put in had their defence under pressure. I thought he was excellent.

Maybe a bit harsh on Daniel there. I didn't think he was particularly good in the first half in general play. His set plays and crosses are good, and well, that's often what we need. Was more sticking up against the Bertos negativity.

The first 15 minutes we were looking rather horrendous actually. All our midfield were looking ordinary as. Well, we won a lot of ball still, as we have been doing most of the season, but we playing very shabbily with it. Ah well, it all came together. Very happy.

We were looking very attack minded. Ifill doesn't really get back that much, which is great for us on the break with Costa and Ifill charging up together.

Ifill did track back for one crucial tackle in defence in the second half.

I can't find too much to fault any of the team - subs all did their part and did it well.

Only question I have is the number of high balls into our little strikers (Greenacre and Costa). That they managed to connect and control so much against the bigger defenders is pretty amazing.

well, i could get used to this winning business

and this slaughtering sides  business

the 'goal' that Coasta had saved latish 1st half would have been 1 of the best I've ever seen (if it had gone in)

Daniel just on defensive edge of centre circle half -volley out to Iffil on right, 2-or 3 touches  Costa's first time volley from about pen spot - keeper push it over - f**kin magic!!

costa and Ifill nice understanding , greeenacre doing a lot off the ball, shame he didn't drink a bit more milk when he was a kid - anther 2 inches taller he'd be top scorer!

Lia and Brown strangling midfield

didn't hear Song

Dura - a ballsy effort !

Greenacre's contribution is a bit more subtle but he gives some lovely touches and quick balls that allow us to get forward quickly, and that goal was full of quality, looked like meat and drink for him.  Got to keep trying to get him in on goal

I was delighted with the way our defence kept it's shape and organisation in the 2nd half when the Jets started to play some nice passing stuff in and around the box. I'm sure their pride must have been hurt by the Sydney debacle when they all gave far too much room to Brosque etc.

Tonight they were harrying, strong-arming, shepherding and nipping at the heels of all the Jets forwards. Haliti couldn't get free and Bridges was subbed off - which I thought was strange and something of an admission of defeat by Branko Culina.

StopOut - I read somewhere that against Sydney we committed like 5 fouls to their 19.  Thought we learnt our lesson today, tackled hard when we needed to and were a lot more physical.

TouchMe - theworldgame usually has them up fairly quick, or that guy on youtube nostrokeeper, but might have to wait for a day there

Agreed. A few times he dropped back to lay the ball off to the likes of Ifill or Daniel down the wings. Also holds it up suprisingly well for a small-ish guy. He also seems to pressure the defence for the full 90 mins - that can't be underestimated. It's something that I thought Smeltz used to be quite good at too.

I'd like to see more of that finishing we were expecting, though. His finish for his goal was superb.

Unfortunately I can't agree with that. So far he hasn't shown much of an ability to protect the ball, especially with his back to goal under close attention from defenders. Granted this is never going to be easy for any striker (though Smeltz is very good in that department) but having that Div 1 experience I was expecting Greenacre to be better equipped to deal with A League defences.

Having said that he was impressive tonight and that goal was a peach. He looked disappointed to be subbed off, maybe thinking he was being punished in some way for the penalty miss, but it was nice to see Ricki give him the big man hug and congrats for a job well done.

What was the crowd figure? Looked through the thread, didn't see it posted..

Edit: nvm, I read about 4100 in the Crowds thread. Low, even for a weeknight but I guess the later start and weather didn't help. Hope you get a big crowd on Sunday, great time to be a football fan in Welly.

Missed the game due to time difference clashing with work, but just watched youtube highlights.

There should be no debate about Daniel's performance - he wore a head bandage, therefore we won. End of.

The only way his place comes under threat is if the cut heals, and Ricki is forced find another candidate to wear the lucjy bandage.

The NZ public isn't really used to mid week sport, we don't have good public transport, it's not particularly conducive to a big crowd really

He made 3/4 really classy off the ball runs last nite that had our players delivered him the ball im bloody sure he would have buried a couple of them.Seems at times that they still havnt got used to some of his leads, sure hope they start giving it to him early and on the deck.

defence bounced back well after sydney. especially muscat. thought greenacre and costa played well together up front but near the end costa looked a little unsure in his decision making.

the 15mins after we scored the second goal was about as dominant as we have played i thought

Have to say that the team have stepped up a level recently, but so has the Fever Zone.  New chants, humour, plenty of noise.  Keep it going.

Watching the replay now, we really did play some outstanding football. Up to 39 minute mark, I remember thinking at the game that we were doing some very special things but watching it confirms it.

I have missed the last two home games, in which we have won 6-0 and 3-0.

Do I ban myself from the Perth game?

Watched highlights - how good was the 2nd goal?!

Were there some quality Costa chants from the zone?

Just as well it turned the performances around in the second half.

Even just before the half where we felt like they came back in to it, it's pretty much even with them breaking from our chances. Hard News2009-11-05 09:22:23

My usual parking space near BB was full up - ended going back to the Terrace (missed the first couple of minutes).  I guess everyone thought that a mid week game would mean plenty of parking space!

Since clearly 1 bandage = 3 goals, we'd score 33 in that case. Plus if we brought all three subs on, we could squeeze in another 9.
