I am kind of surprised that a match thread hasn't been made by now but anyway...

My team for this week: 4-1-3-2
                  Moss
Muscat Siggy Dura Lochhead
                 McKain
Hearfield Brown Daniel
           Bertos Smeltz

I expect Moss to retain his spot even though I would prefer otherwise and I think we will see Ferrente dropped in favour of Daniel. This game against Sydney is probably a must win considering we play Melbourne and Adelaide the following games.

Do you think Daniel will start over Ferrente though?

Think there's a good chance that may be the starting line-up.
Still not convinced with Daniel as a starter though.

I doubt that will be Ricki's preference

We need Bertos to be a better finisher because even his goal on Sunday was pretty lucky. If we could get 2-3 good strikers for next season he would be an awesome attacking midfielder with his pace and crossing.

I can see Danile dropping back to the bench. The most favoured team, with McKain back, seems to be with Ferrante and Hearfield starting with Daniel replacing one of them later. I'd go along with that too.

We are probably hoping that Aloisi plays for them, can't imagine even thinking that at the start of the season.

of course.. Aloisi for the win. LOLZ!!

Kosmina gives up could be a sly one though,he could actually just make us cocky enough that sydney go for the kill
Permalink Permalink

Kosmina also said that the season is basically over for them.
That cant be good for the boys motivation.
Permalink Permalink

well their season truly is over. However Kosmina is a cock. Remember when we beat them with a late penalty and he told Ricky we had been lucky? then he went on to lose 4-1 to Perth and still said they deserved to win ahah!
Still, he's a cunning asshole, so I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to win the match or if he told his defender to go hard on Smeltzy, Daniel and Bertos. Same thing happened last week vs Newcastle. When those kids came on I'm sure that Van Egmond told them to go hard.
Not a coincidence that one of them hit Smeltz real bad at one stage, and the other committed the foul on Hearfield (which had started some 10seconds before!!) leading to our penalty.

That's how I'd line-up.

This game is just as much a must win as the game against the Jets was so I would like to see a bench with attacking options - Costa and Kwasnik plus Ferrante for fresh legs. Hearfied and McKain covering any back four injuries.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Yep, I like that team. Some people would have Ferrante in for Daniel but I think Ferrante has gone off the boil a bit in the last few games. Sydney's defense is crap...inexperianced and now totally shell shocked. We need to go at them hard right from the start with our most attacking lineup. if we score early their heads will drop.

Daniel did enough against the Jets to warrant a start. In the second half him and Leo were combining nicely down the left. Plus he's upped his work rate off the ball.
No point in being conservative now......3 points against Sydney will be the easiest out of the last three games.

IIRC, he "set-up" Smeltz's first goal.

Then again, I agree with you. Dodd's passing is hopeless.

Sydney will be going for the kill anyway, regardless, dont even think about them not having a go.

The coach and the team have a lot to play for. They have new owners in March, and only 3 more games to impress them, a lot of contracts and reputations are on the line.

No way will they roll over for us. Just as we expect Smeltz and Moss (and Dodd) to give there best to the end of the year, it's the same for these guys.

Last thing we want to do now is get ahead of ourselves, it's game by game all the way.

The through ball came from Siggie

Sydney have failed so much as a team like with all their money and all their players they stuffed up a situation which was almost unstuffable.

Mckain and Durante in, Dodd and probably Daniel out I think for this one.

Having said that, I dont want to see Bertos operating down the left flank.
But I cant see Herbert starting Daniel in front of Hearfield.

brown on the right?? surely the centre if possible.

I kid of like the 433...but I"m not sure how it would work...Smeltz bertos and Hearfield all over the place up front...though generallly Hearfield right bertos left smeltz mid. Brown McKain in the centre, with Daniel in the left midfield...though also kind of roving...

err...

Also having Brown in the centre is better as his defensive skills can be used better in the centre then say on the wing.
Permalink Permalink

Agree. Brown has to play central as long as he stays on his feet and doesn't make stupid yellow card tackles

I think he'll go for a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 again. Based on the fact that we have to get a draw at the very least

My feeling is:

                   Moss

Muscat   Durante   Sigmund   Lochhead

            Brown    Mc Kain

Ferrante        Hearfield        Bertos

                  Smeltz Jag2009-01-06 20:25:14

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Those will be the players used (I doubt he will give Daniel a shot) but I would be surprised if he moved Bertos because in the last 5-6 games Bertos has done well where he is.

That's a bit unfair on Dodd. Actually his defensive work was very, very good, and after watching the replay you could see that he got through more work than just about anyone else in the team.

His passing however does merit the description 'poor'. Unfortunately for him that's what everyone remembers and why he'll almost certainly make way for Durante (whose distribution isn't that crash hot either I have to say).

Dodd? He did not!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I reckon Durante's passing is poorer than Dodd's. And Dodd's is appalling.
