Wellington coach Ricki Herbert had to be dragged away from his Sydney counterpart John Kosmina after the game after he took exception to a comment from the losing coach.

that's more like it

Man that was great stuff. Really good attittude and some shots! Lots of shots! Now this happend last time we played Sydney, we got on a little run and then it went pear shaped. Lets hope that doesn't occur again.

Paston has to be dropped.
Lochead was very very good. He's great when he goes for a run and takes them on.
Muscat was strong. That Mo was highly dodgy.
Ferrante passed well but he will not score a goal this decade.
Smeltzy's hold up play was brilliant and he is a great penalty taker.

Keep it like that boys! Well done.

Paston must be dropped after that performance. Moss has proved he is easily one of the best in the league, Paston got his chance and now it's time for Mossy to get back between the sticks.

Oh my head!

We went to the game and roared the house down, huge credit to Barts, Coxey and Cosmo. Between the four of us we had the small but hugely vocal Phoenix fans singing the whole game. The Cove was silenced.

Also went to the Sydney supporters pub after the game and drank far to much, hence the sore head this morning.

BEST AWAY TRIP EVER!

They showed the YF crew 2 or 3 times on the TV 'specially when we scored!

Man i'd love to see us play more like that! But after Pastons little fumble and miscommunication i'd be pretty happy to see Moss take the gloves again!

Also MASSIVE KUDOS to the fever supporters who went over to the game! We could hear you guys through the TV and I hope like hell you got to party with some of the nix boys afterwards!!!

Lochhead was being our own little Evra. The way they chose to play screwed sydney to pieces. Brilliant.

What a win. That's a massive result for the Phoenix and damn it feels good to climb off the bottom of the table.

Was awesome to see the Yellow Fever presence at the match. Fox showed you guys on TV a few times and it looked like we had some numbers there!

I'm gonna be calling McKain "Chips" from now on - i think it suits him, along with the obvious "ah McKain" references.

yep.

So......

Yeh I think that having the three in midfield allowed us to pass the ball around there. It also meant that with McKain playing in front of the backs that there was some cover or 3 back if the wingbacks got forward and attacked.

Better from Lochy- but think he can still do better. I like having the three up front, it seems like a positive move.

Not pnly a proud team performance but also a proud site seeing that many Nix fans at the game. A chance for the fans to sing " You're not singing any more" to the Cove.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Just woke up after goingto the match last night. Bit shady on it to say the least. Great support at the SFS although I must apologise for taking off my shirt - no one needed to see that.

I think RH reads these forums, and gives them a tactical spin.

Passion, effort,  a return to last seasons eye-pleasing football, very attack minded, playing Costa. You really can't complain about the tactics. Playing like that, sure we'll loose some and get exposed at the back, but its fabulous to watch, and the fitness from Ed Baranowski will be beneficial. Finally get to see Lochy return to last seasons form.

Most pleasing parts of the game for me was to see RH fired up and passionate. We havn't seen that at all this season until yesterday. Fantastic to see him and Pignata really pleased at the win. RH fighting, its quality. Couldn't have asked for anything more for the players last night, they went from Kiddiminster Harriers to Brazil in 1 week.

Also great to see we are not reliant on Smeltz at all, apart from a penalty he did little.

That was more like it especially in the 1st half, pushing up on the opposition not giving them time on the ball and lots of effort put in by everyone (including the travelling fans :)).

We were also passing the ball through the midfield which was great to see, I would still like to see a bit mopre movement of the though but is they continue to play like this then that will come. The movement down the flanks by Lochead and to some extent Muscat warmed my cockles

The only thing Im still (very) confused about is why is Daniel not playing? I would have though he would have started instead of Troy.

Thats an interesting comment, I was thinking last night that our players actually look fitter than a lot of the other teams. Look at their faces and you can see they have that slight gaunt look of endurance athletes (especialy Lochead and Bertos), the fact that they didn't drop off the pace to much at the end also atests to this.

Its a fine line though, hopefully they are not being worked to hard so that they become overtrained.

You're underrating Smeltz, Wolfben. He got through a ton of work in what was a different role for him. Chased hard, pressured constantly, held the ball up - the sort of stuff which doesn't seem productive but which really rattles the opposition. I thought he was great.

Also, how about that amazing goal saving tackle of McKain's against I-forget-who. Got caught out in midfield but sprinted back and put in desperate lunge from behind just before the Bling guy pulled the trigger. Superb!

Yep, Smeltz did a hell of a lot of pressing and contributed to our dominance in the midfield. He sprinted at the keeper etc all game as well.

I just really hope that the boys keep up the tempo/spice/flair that let them dominate the game, it would really be a shame to see that let go

Completely agree, he looks very sick and tired of being marked out of the game so I think yesterday he really aimed to keep moving and throw the defence off him, it worked, and Bertos and Hearfield had plenty of space left for them to use.
You know we belong together...

Great game.  Paston should be ashamed of that miss.

So happy with that.  Next week we have to win to put more space between us and Perth and to get the ever elusive two wins on the trot.

Wet pitch and the ball slid under him - not quite as bad as Moss coming out and getting stranded in no mans land. Stick with Paston - he's playing better overall. In fact pretty good line up and tactics for once - stick with it I say.

paston??! a better keeper than moss? whatever..

this isnt the first time we've seen paston make a bad error.slippery surface cant be to blame. he should've judged it better.

moss has hardly done a thing wrong, hes commited and if we want him to stay in wellington we have to play him regularly.

The desperate attempt of a defence lawyer...don't think it stands up to scrutiny m'lud

Did someone mention gaunt endurance athletes? Maybe some of them, but I think when the Dodd gets let out he goes to the Butchers for an extra portion of sausages! Long may he continue to do so, on his current form!HarryHotspur2008-11-08 19:58:38

I think Dodd is just looks naturally 'chubby'.

Just watching the replay of the game. McKain has to be the most comfortable on the ball when he is on song. On the 35th min mark (34:50) he dribbles around about 5-6 players with ease.
