Also Manny is great on the right, why change that. I think if Durrante is to come back to the starting X1 then Dodd will be the one to drop the bench.

I expect the below, or maybe Christie for Daniel.

                  Moss

Muscat   Siggy      Durrante  Lochhead

 Bertos    McKain     Ferrante  Daniel

         Costa           Smeltz

Christie
Ferrante
Dodd
Kwasnik
Paston

Wait how many can be on the bench... anyways something like this..

Starting line up is spot on.

4 on bench - fixed - you've got Ferrante twice.

I would have Coveny on the bench instead of Dodd - what's the point in having a spare centre back in a must win game ? I'd rather have more fresh midfield legs or another attacking option. Does mean Durante needs to be bloody sure he is 100% fit - if not he needs to take one for the team and make way for Dodd.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Daniel to start I would say since Melbourne seem to come back in the last 10-20min of games. need someone else that can tackle and have the speed to get back and defend when needed.

Plodder for Ferrante in starting 11 is only change I'd make to your line up.

Ferrante has been poor for last month doesn't add anything going forward and not the strongest in centre of a 4 man midfield, Plodder to get his chance to start.

Just to recap:

1) Dodd must only play at center back. If Durante is match fit I hope Ricky plays him and Seamonster at CB. Full credit to Dodd, but I'd rather see those two at the back.

2) Ferrante to replace Brown, possibly Plodder.

3) Costa to start, with Daniel as well. Like last week, better than last week.

4) Moss will play and will not let goals in (on purpose) because he is a professional and no coach would ever play him again if he did such a thing. Also, if he ever did that, he could forget about representing his country. United 123 just talked out of his arse, full stop.

5) Ricky won't drop Lochead for two reasons: first, who the hell would replace him? Second, he might not have played at a great level lately but he fits well in the team and does a heck lot of running.

6) We need a win, nothing more, nothing less. To get a win we must combine the 2nd half vs Jets and the 2nd half vs Adelaide, and we need to get started early. I'm sure Ricky will tell the boys to keep an eye on defence as well, with mongrels such as Allsopp and Thompson you just can't afford mistakes.

7) Why wouldn't McKain start?? He's the lighthouse of our midfield..enlightening. He's one of the top 3 midfielders in the league and if we are where we are at this stage of the season we owe it to him!

agree...one of the top couple of defensive midfielders but certainly not a great  all round midfield playmaker

Dodd has been quite solid at the back and I feel that he has been more consistent than durante. Ferrante seems to be in the games less and less as the weeks go by, maybe they could play a midfield diamond and try Kwasnik as the attacking midfileder, he didnt look too bad against adelaide, and your quite right about lochhead, who else has a left foot that is a defender?

I'd go with exactly Ricky's starting line-up from Adelaide, but swap Plodder in for Brown. Ferrante is a good passer, but not physically strong enough. If McKain has as much forward vision as he showed in the second half last game, then we'll have good drive through the middle, but our wings are obviously the main avenue.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

isn't a DM also a Midfielder? Or does he play on the wing? I mean Jesus, Mc Kain has been huge all season. He never stop, he defends till he dies, he can attack, his passing's good, he now even beats players easy. I don't know how many midfielders can do this in the A-League.

He's not top three anything. Mate our midfield is very ordinary, McKains just better than most of the other hacks and is easy to look good. A seagull in with the turkeys, but he's sure an't no eagle. About time we found one.

No Aus he would be the 2nd best DM after Reid. Though you have to be joking calling him one of the A-leagues top midfielders. I can think off the top of my head atleast 10 who are better: Hernandez, Celeski, Reid, T Dodd, Hutchinson, Cole, Miller, Murdocca, Mckay, Song...

Hopefully this week we will see them put more effort into the attacking part unlike most games as this game is a must-win for us. We really need to up the tempo of our game and really dominate.

Yes yes yes.
No more of this.. sit back and get walked over sh*t in the first half and attack in the last 30 minutes.
This week that needs to change, melbourne are a high tempo team and are always trying to attack.
We have become more defence orientated this season.

And we needed to and we still need good defence in this match!!

OK, agree McKain is not among the best three midfielders in the league, but Cole and Celeski better than him? Hutchinson, Reid, and even Song are also a bit of stretch.

Cole was abit of a strech, but my point was there are many others that are better then him. McKain is too inconsistent if he played his best week-in week-out he would be top-three easy.

I have probably left out a few Melbourne, CCM, Adelaide midfielders aswell.wellyphoenixfan2009-01-21 14:02:26
