Tony Pignata has resigned as CEO of the Wellington Phoenix.

Pignata has been at the helm of the A-League football club since its inception, and his resignation is due to personal reasons.

His wife and sons moved back to Melbourne last year and he's now decided to join them.

He leaves beyond a strong legacy having recently secured the Phoenix a new five-year A-League licence and a renewed commitment from major sponsor Sony.

I figured this was a joke.  Who would we get to take his place?

Well if it is anything like john Mitchell's resignation Tony will still be in the job in 6 months time.

Very sad to hear this.  Tony has been fantastic, esp. the way he has communicated with the fans.  Best of luck to you if you read this, you will be missed!

Sad news - hope there isn't more behind it...

Thanks for your efforts Tony, and all the best for your future (as long as it's with an AFL club lol).

Really sad to hear that Tony's leaving, but I guess if the family isn't happy then you have to do what's right. Giood luck with the future and thanks for all your efforts - leaves huge shoes to fill for the next guy.

Thanks for everything Tony!
Imo,from an interested fan looking on, Your football management experience has certainly influenced the way the club runs and particularly the positive public perception of Wellington Phoenix FC.
Its been great to have your input on the YF threads, fantastic really to have the CEO of the club interacting with its fans so directly.
One hopes your eventual successor can maintain your standards.

All the very best to you for the future.

Sad news. Great guy, done so much for the Phoenix. But completely understand his reasons.

How long before our friend at the dominion links this to unpaid Rates.

Holy crap, that's it - Terry is paying the rates with Tony's salary. Hard News will now act as CEO on a volunteer basis.

Thanks for all your great work Tony P, you were the best CEO the Phoenix could have had.

This is in equal parts very sad and terrifying.

But all we can do is wish Tony the very best and thank him for everything he has done both for the Phoenix and for us at YF.  We could not have dreamt up a better man to have in charge of the club.

And we now need to cross our fingers and pray for someone equally capable, with the same marraige footballing knowledge and business acument to take his place.

I may urgently take up practicing several religions.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Thanks for the memories Tony, you've been the best CEO the Phoenix could have hoped to start with and a big part of where the club is now is up to you. I know you'll be reading this thread (as you always do on these forums) so good luck for the future and before you go, please find someone even half as good to replace you. Cheers!

Sounds like it's for the right reasons though, so all the best Tony P, and cheers for everything mate...

Was just wondering if the Melbourne Rebels have appointed a new CEO after they sacked the bloke involved with the Storm crisis?

Could we see our Tony be installed as the new Rebels CEO?

Well that is a massive Bummer. TP was awesome. Especially the way he dealt with everything to do with the fans and would let you know what was going on on here.

Lets hope the new person is just as committed to the fans.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!
