Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I thought Fight for Life was last weekend! What a blo*dy scrap.

Warner 5 Dropped it and was luckily rescued by his defence
Manny 6 Won most of his tackles, it wasn't pretty, some wayward passes
Dura 6.5 Did well against Smeltzy, kept his backline focused
Siggy 7.5 Won us the game, dived in a few times
Lochie 6 Oh dear looks like he's gone for a few weeks
Ifill 5.5 Disappointing lack of impact, silly yellow card
Brownie 5.5 At least put some pressure on their defensive line, lucky not to be sent off
Vinnie 6 Scrapped away, no silly stuff
Leo 6 Nice corner, did as well as anyone
Greenie 5.5 Seemed to be crowded out most of the game. Why do we pump long balls to a short attack??????
Dani 5.5 Little impact a nice free kick that missed
Pavlov 4 Had made an impact, won the corner, dumb as red card
Wardy Little time
Daniel Little time

Ref 8 Didn't give a penalty for Vinny's hand ball, many would have, didn't red card Brownie or Ifill, got most decision right. Well done.

Whaddaya reckon?

Warner 3. Paston time
Lochie 3. Oh dear.
Ifill 6. Needs to play central
Pavlov 8 - 3 for red
Rest ok.
Lucky.
Lack disciple and direction.
Where is that suppose to come from?

Worst game of football ever. Siggy a 10, everyone else a 1.

I disapprove of tactics and formation, want to rate Ricki 4 tonight. Should have been a straight swap Sanchez in for Brown, 442 diamond, but no... Also ref=w**ker.

Don't agree.

Sanches for Ward the right call.  Quite why Ward got on ahead of Daniel I have no idea.

Pav - one out of ten. Dunno why he got a round of applause when he walked off, his brain explosion is pretty much how he plays - like a blunt instrument.
Brown and Sanchez don't work together, one is always crowding the others space. Our front third look far too compressed in the first half because of this.
Brown plodded around innefectually so 4 for him.
Bertos couldn't hit a barn door with his corners and slows the attack down to much with umpteen stepovers to try and mask his lack of pace, 4 for him too.
The rest ....meh. Siggy and Manny gave as good as they got so the best out of a bad bunch for me. Dura ever reliable.

Lochie should of had a medal for his scrap with Sterjovski. Seemed to neutralise him.

something was wrong with the midfield for sure. Perhaps Daniel and Dani need to be on- though Leo hasn't been the worst.

Bollocks. Sanchez was actually doing something. Brown...?

Lochead - dreadful - esp the passing.
Pav - OK until the brain explosion, how much more rope does he have?
No real problem with the ref, can't see how the early hand-ball  wasn't a penalty - but maybe I just don't understand thr rule.

you gave a 6 to lochhead? are you taking the piss?

honestly, it staggers me how different people see games. the entire team were WOEFUL tonight WOE-FUL. i'd give everyone a 2 except for SigmUnd because he stepped up when it mattered and won it for us. it was actually a really good header. the sickest game of football i've ever had the displeasure of watching. I'd give Manny and Siggy an 8. They both played hard, Siggy's goal, and they both won the ball when we really needed them to.

Dura 6. Solid enough organising the defence, though players were out of position at times.

Ifill 5. As usual trying to spark something.
Lia 5. Was also solid, no stupid yellows

The rest not worth mentioning from that game to be honest.

I know he had some games where he came off the bench. Is that included?

He's started 89 games (of which he's been subbed off 7 times) and come off the bench 5 times.

cannot understand why warner is rated so poorly on these forums. i understand why people have the blinkers for paston, but warner is a good keeper doing a good job. every keeper has his dodgy moments, but warner has comparatively few.reg222011-12-11 11:34:48

Warner 7 - did nothing wrong, no difficult saves to really make, good take from a corner near the end

Muscat 7 - always pretty reliable, decent game as usual
Durante 7 - see Muscat
SigmUnd 8 - see above, extra point for a cracking goal!
Lochhead 2 - performance summed up by slicing ball out of play under no pressure. Terrible.

Brown 3 - no goal, therefore invisible for entire game other than when making stupid fouls
Lia 5 - can't recall him doing anything of note really, same as usual
Sanchez 6 - tried to make things happen but didn't quite come off for him

Ifill 5 - didn't do a whole lot, one of his poorer games
Bertos 4 - same as usual, runs forward, then passes back, cannot beat players. Extra point for assist, the one cross that was actually decent in the whole game
Greenacre 4 - off the boil, but isolated once again so not entirely his fault

Ricki 3 - boring, boring, boring

I actually didn't think SigmUnd was as good as everyone is saying, apart from that goal of course. There was one instance in the first half where he ran forward a bit, lost the ball to Smeltz, and left a massive hole in defence. Could very easily have been a goal, and he would definitely have been at fault.

Apart from that however, he played well, and of course the goal makes all the difference

possibl;y, even though he shouldn't be! He is supposed to be reasonbly quick, maybe it's an effort or confidence thing?

Last year I was roundly condemned for saying he was lacking commitment, maybe he does lack commitment or maybe father time is catching up. He turns 30 next week and I don't know many people who get faster once they pass 25. Often guile, cunning and ability to read a game make up for a loss of or lack of pace, but to be honest I do not see any of that in Leos game. Sure he often attracts two defenders but when he does but he does not have the pace / confidence to try at least every now and again to take players on.

His set pieces are generally worse than woeful and quite frankly when he cuts inside on the edge of the box and looks to shoot, invariably ends up little better than a dribbly back pass to the keeper.

Problem is who do we have to replace him? Daniel 32 today (happy birthday btw) and even slower than Leo, Ward about as pacey as Leo but gives the ball away more often but at least seems willing to try things on ocassion.  So Leo will probably get to retain a spot because our stocks look very bare

Yep all we can hope for is a decent clear out of the  past their use-by date players at the end of the  season combined with an infusion of some new blood !

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

Can't be motivated to give ratings - this was the worst game of football I've seen for a long, long time.  Great we got the three points.  Unfortunately, that will deflect attention from the fact the team overall was appalling.  I struggle to see things getting any better so long as Herbert remains coach, with his unimaginative, ultra-conservative tactics and his tendency to build the team around the limited, less talented players.  (Dura was OK on Saturday though)

I think we definitely lack pace on the flanks, an area we have allegedly been very strong in.

I personally think Daniel deserves a place over Leo.
Ward does attack his men, just means he also loses the ball a lot.

It may be time for leo at RB

PlaywithFire, I agree about Daniel and Ward.  How do you think the team should be set out?  I personally think we have the wherewithall to play 4-3-3, especially at home.  I'd like to see the team built around the creative, attacking players - but Ricki seems to want a spine of watercarriers.

I'd put Muscat in the holding midfield role, with Sanchez and Ward as the two attacking midfielders.  We have Daniel, Leo, (and the guy from Adelaide when he's fit) as wingers.  Ifill needs to play centrally, within shooting range, so he'd be my centre forward (one thing Ifill is not, is a winger).  This line-up has loads of goal-scoring options.  You can bring Brown off the bench if you want to defend a lead or play 4-2-3-1.

This would mean looking for a good right back - and we need a decent left back for that matter, to play a reliable attacking-and-defending role in a 4-3-3 formation.

"The Guy from Adelaide" (Lucas Pantellis) is out for the season. While you call them attacking Midfielders, in a 433 formation they need to do a sh*t load of defending and Sanchez does not fit that bill and a front line comprising Daniel Ifill and Leo.... how slow do you want us to be?

Completely forgot him - I guess that shows he was fairly invisible (bar the pinpoint corner).
